Florin strawberry variety

Florin is a remontant variety of garden strawberries (strawberries) for universal use. It was bred by specialists from the Dutch company Goossens Flevoplant, and is the first brainchild of this company as part of a strawberry breeding program. It appeared on the market quite recently, about two years ago. Despite its young age, the variety has already earned a lot of praise from farmers and gardeners. The main advantage of our heroine is her resistance to various climatic adversities. It is suitable for cultivation in open ground almost throughout the territory of Russia, it is also excellent for cultivation in greenhouses, tunnels and greenhouses, it can also be used in an ampelous version.

The plant is medium-sized, medium-spreading, well-leafy, rather compact. The root system is powerful. The formation is scarce. The leaves are large, bright green, slightly corrugated. The flowers are bisexual, white, the pollen is of very high quality, which has an extremely positive effect on pollination and the yield of Florin. Peduncles are powerful, erect, located above the level of the leaves, under the weight of the fruits are laid on the ground.

Berries of the variety are large and medium-sized, blunt-conical, tending to round, slightly elongated. The skin is bright red, shiny, at the stage of full ripeness it acquires a slightly burgundy hue. Achenes yellow or red, shallowly depressed. The pulp is light red, dense, with a delicate texture, juicy, aromatic. This strawberry is characterized by the presence of small voids inside the fruit.

Florin's taste is very good, but there are disputes among gardeners about this. Some people just don't like the taste of berries, others call it mediocre, and still others praise it. Generally speaking, our hero has a standard flavoring palette, typical for many high-yielding remontant varieties. The berries are sweet, with a slightly noticeable delicate sourness - in general, an ordinary strawberry. The only difference from many hard-fruited remontant varieties is that our hero's flesh, although dense, is not firm, without an apple crunch when bitten.

The fruits are universal in use, perfect for any processing and freezing, they will perfectly decorate desserts and, of course, will serve as a fresh delicacy. The berries tolerate long-distance transportation and are characterized by decent keeping quality. In a word, Florin can proudly carry his title of "commercial". It is excellent for growing on an industrial scale, although due to its young age it has not yet acquired enough recommendations for entrepreneurs to confidently replace other remontant varieties with it.

The average weight of berries is 35-40 grams, specimens and more than 50 grams can be observed. High-yielding strawberries, they can confidently compete with the favorites of the assortment of remontants. More than 1 kg of berries can be harvested from a bush, the indicator can reach 3 kg per plant and even more, depending on the intensity of agricultural technology. Among the varieties of neutral daylight hours, our hero is distinguished by a rather late ripening period of the first wave of fruiting - it begins in July. Strawberries bear fruit steadily until deep frost, practically without interruption, the protrusion of the peduncles occurs as the already set fruits ripen.

Florin has excellent immunity to diseases and pests, especially resistant to fungal diseases. However, it should be noted that preventive treatments are still highly desirable, especially if you are growing strawberries commercially and want to get the most out of them. One of the most important advantages of the variety is its resistance to various weather disasters. It has excellent winter hardiness and drought resistance, which makes it possible to cultivate it in the most diverse regions of the country.

There are some peculiarities in the agricultural technology of our hero.Firstly, deep planting of plants is not allowed - the root collar should be above the ground level. Secondly, young seedlings are quite sensitive to low temperatures, so they need good shelter. In general, despite the excellent winter hardiness and frost resistance, covering materials should still be used in the northern regions to avoid surprises. Third, plants need good nutrition. Do not skimp on feeding, it is especially important to provide strawberries with mineral fertilizers. It is an intensive type, so the better you feed it, the more yield you can expect.

Florin is an excellent variety, very promising and clearly worthy of attention. During its short time of existence, it has already managed to collect a large number of positive reviews, and very soon it will become known how good it is for growing for commercial purposes. But she has one noticeable drawback - ambiguous taste. Of course, gardeners want to have something extraordinary on their site, distinguished by an immediate unique taste. And breeders have more than once satisfied the desires of gardeners, creating various remontant varieties with very bright taste. On the other hand, you might like this strawberry very much. As they say, there is no dispute about tastes, so there is no need to make hasty conclusions, it is better to try to grow Florin on your site and personally appreciate all its advantages.
