Spathiphyllum variety Chopin (Chopin)
Many indoor plants have "popular names". For example, the tree-like bastard is called the “money tree”, sansevieria is known as “mother-in-law's language”, and the most beautiful balsam flower is hidden under the funny phrase “wet vanka”. And many women in the apartment on the windowsill grows "female happiness", otherwise - spathiphyllum. One of its interesting varieties is the Chopin variety.
History and description of appearance
A tropical plant at one time, namely back in the century before last, was brought to our country from South America. It is also widespread in East Asia. Chopin (or Chopin) itself appeared as a result of breeding work, like, incidentally, other varieties of spathiphyllum.
This variety is distinguished from other hybrids by the following features:
- low height - from 30 to 40 cm;
- rich green color and glossy shine of the leaves, which have an oblong shape and pointed ends;
- the presence of depressed veins on the surface of the leaves, creating the effect of folds.
The length of the Chopin leaves is 20-24 cm. They are equipped with flexible petioles, slightly curving as the culture grows, which is why the adult plant takes on a spreading shape. Like all spathiphyllums, our hero is devoid of a stem: its leaves form a basal rosette.
Chopin flowers consist of a bedspread and a cob. The bedspread is elongated, has a snow-white color with greenish blotches and a green tip. The color of the cob is yellowish. The flowers reach a length of 5-7 cm. They spread a pleasant aroma around the plant. In the morning hours it is more intense, in the evening it is barely perceptible. This variety enters the flowering phase in April-May, but in some cases, and especially with good care, flowers on the plant can appear even in late autumn or in the middle of winter.
Unfortunately, this type of spathiphyllum is poorly resistant to attacks of insect pests. The danger to the flower is represented by spider mites, mealybugs and thrips.
On the basis of this variety, a variety called Chopin Rondo Yellow was developed in the Netherlands. It differs from our hero in the bright yellow color of the inflorescences with a green vein in the middle. The ear has exactly the same shade. With its cheerful appearance, this plant can cheer you up even on the gloomiest winter day.
Growing features
Our hero is not picky about care, however, in order to maintain the decorativeness of the culture, one should nevertheless follow certain recommendations for the cultivation of spathiphyllum with a musical name.
First, provide the flower with enough light. But make sure that it is not exposed to direct sunlight. The shade for the plant is harmful, as it impairs the appearance of the variety. In the room where Chopin is located, the thermometer should not rise above 25ºC.
This is a moisture-loving plant, so its leaves should be periodically sprayed with cool water - up to 3 times a week. It is advisable to water spathiphyllum with a settled liquid: every two days in the summer and weekly in the cold season. As soon as your pet blooms, start regularly applying special complex fertilizers to the soil for the crop. Loosening of the soil is also a mandatory measure for plant care.
The soil for planting and replanting Chopin should consist of a quarter of peat, be light and nutritious. It is better to use a store-bought substrate for tropical plants for these purposes. Place a small drainage layer (a mixture of sand with expanded clay) at the bottom of the pot.Young spathiphyllum is transplanted once a year into a container 2-3 cm larger than the previous one. The hybrid is propagated by seeds, apical cuttings and dividing the bush.
Caring for the plant also includes the timely removal of dried flowers and leaves, regular wiping of dust from the foliage with a damp cloth, and the elimination of salt bark formed on the top layer of soil in a pot with a crop.
Use cases
Chopin can often be seen in offices, where it is used not only as an element of room design, but also as a natural humidifier and air purifier from harmful substances and dust. The variety is also bred in apartments, since this cute flower evens out the energy of the home, gives harmony to its inhabitants and, according to popular belief, brings happiness to the fair sex. Given the fashion that has emerged in recent years for potted flowers presented as a gift, spathiphyllum will be appropriate as a sign of attention to a relative or girlfriend.
I would describe Chopin's spathiphyllum as an unpretentious plant. He has lived with me for many years and did not cause any trouble. Regular watering, during the period of active growth - feeding with universal fertilizer, spraying the leaves - that's all the care. Beautiful dense foliage, blooms twice a year.
A flower grows in a bright room, but is protected from direct sunlight. They cause burns. It happened, in the first years of my stay with me, I put this plant on the windowsill - white spots appeared on the leaves.
