Potato variety Labadia

Labadia is a medium early potato variety (Solanum tuberosum) for table use. Bred in the Netherlands by STET Holland B. V. specialists. In 2010 it was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation under the official name "Labadia". Zoned in five regions of the country: Central, Volgo-Vyatka, Central black earth, North Caucasian, Middle Volga, Ural. It is valued for its large tubers and drought resistance. Able to adapt to any soil and climate.

From the emergence of full shoots to harvest, 70-85 days pass.

The plant is tall, of an intermediate type. Stems are erect or semi-erect. The leaves are large, closed or intermediate type, light green or green in color. Low intensity waviness is noticeable along the edges of the leaf plate. Corolla medium in size to large, white in color.

6-9 rather large tubers are formed on one plant, the number can often be more. The average mass of commercial copies is noted in the range of 100-152 grams. Oval tubers. The peel is smooth or slightly rough, yellow in color. The pulp is light yellow in color. The eyes lie at a medium depth.

The marketable yield of Labadia, according to the results of state tests, was recorded in the range of 290-462 c / ha, at the level of standards Nevsky... The largest amount of potatoes was harvested in the Perm Territory - 583 centners of tubers were obtained from one hectare, which is 248 centners / ha higher than the established standard. Marketability is high - 89-95%, keeping quality is very good - 97%.

Our hero's taste is excellent. The tubers are suitable for preparing various dishes, but are especially good for baking. They boil well, so some housewives recommend cooking them a little less time than other varieties. The pulp is very pleasant to the taste, of normal consistency, without excessive dryness or wateriness. The starch content in it is average - 12.2-16.4%.

Potatoes are suitable for growing in all types of soil, in a wide variety of climatic latitudes. It has plasticity, is able to adapt well and quickly to various growing conditions. Shows the best yield on fertile loose soils, however, on problem soils, but well prepared for cultivation, it shows itself perfectly. The drought resistance of Labadia should also be mentioned. According to gardeners, in the hottest seasons, it gives excellent yields, while other varieties do not withstand such conditions.

Plants are unpretentious in care, but they will perfectly respond to increased attention. The main element of agricultural technology is carrying out standard measures, such as weeding, hilling, loosening the soil, preventive treatments against diseases and pests, as well as watering and feeding. Still, there are some nuances that can significantly affect the yield.

  • It is advisable to germinate the seed material of Labadia before planting. This will have a positive effect on germination, and also accelerate ripening. It is also recommended to treat the tubers with dressing agents, and, if desired, with growth stimulants.
  • Do not plant potatoes in an area where other nightshades grew before to avoid contamination of the plants with diseases specific to this crop. The best precursors are onions, cabbage, cucumber, garlic, beets, legumes, and green manure.
  • Disembarkation is carried out in early to mid-May, when the soil warms up to + 8−10 ° С. Return frosts will have a very detrimental effect on plants, so do not rush to plant.
  • During the growing season, do not forget about timely feeding. They need to be carried out as needed, but care should be taken with nitrogen fertilizers - the variety does not like their excessive amount, moreover, their increased content in the soil can lead to increased leaf growth to the detriment of tuberization.
  • Renew seed as needed to keep the potatoes from degenerating.

Labadia is resistant to cyst nematodes and cancer, as well as wrinkled mosaics. It is moderately resistant to leaf-rolling virus and banded mosaic. It is moderately susceptible to late blight in tubers and tops.

Gardeners speak very well of our hero. Its high yield, excellent taste and drought resistance are especially appreciated. According to potato growers, in the hottest seasons this variety literally “saves” the situation without reducing the amount of harvest, unlike other varieties. Also, there is an excellent presentation of tubers and a high percentage of marketable tubers in the nest.

Of the shortcomings, only a moderate susceptibility to late blight can be noted, but for a skilled gardener this will not become a serious problem. Otherwise, Labadia is a wonderful potato that can delight you in whatever region you live in.
