Potato variety Lugovskoy

Lugovskoy is a medium-ripening table potato variety (Solanum tuberosum). Bred by employees of the Institute of Potato Growing of the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences. In 1987 he was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation. Approved for cultivation in eleven regions of the country: North, North-West, Central, Volgo-Vyatka, Central black earth, North Caucasus, Nizhnevolzhsky, Ural, West Siberian, East Siberian, Far East. It has become widespread in farms and personal subsidiary plots.

The period from planting to harvesting is 70-80 days.

The plant is of medium height, compact. The main stem is erect, the lateral ones are not too spreading, the amount of green mass is moderate. Leaves are medium in size, matte dark green, covered with inconspicuous hairs, well pronounced veins. The flowers are large, white or cream colored, collected in compact corollas. Flowering is short, there are practically no berries, or they quickly fall off.

The root system of Lugovskoy potatoes is well developed, 10-15 large tubers weighing 85-125, sometimes up to 160 grams, are formed in one nest, there are practically no small ones. Tubers are oval, smooth. The peel is thin, light pink in color, glossy, smooth to the touch. The pulp is white, does not darken when cut. The eyes are small, superficial, practically invisible.

The yield is high, according to state tests, its maximum value can reach 514 c / ha. One plant can consistently collect about 1 kg of tubers. Marketability is excellent, keeping quality is 97%.

The taste is very good. The pulp is crumbly, without excess wateriness and dryness, melting in the mouth. Potatoes are ideal for mashed potatoes, stews, and also make an excellent ingredient for fillings. Suitable for industrial processing for starch production. However, the variety is not suitable for frying and stuffing because of its good boiling properties. The amount of starch in tubers fluctuates between 12-19%, there is a relatively high content of protein and vitamin C.

Lugovskoy is undemanding to the type of soil and climatic conditions of growth, due to which it is widespread almost throughout the entire region of Russia and Ukraine. It should still be noted that the best yield is shown on light fertile soils, especially sandy loam. Plants do not require much attention to themselves, but they respond well to watering and feeding.

Planting should be started when the soil warms up to + 10-12 ° C. These potatoes are grown mainly in an ordinary way, planting is carried out according to the scheme 60 × 35 cm, the depth of the holes should be 9-10 cm. During the growing season of plants, deep loosening of the soil and hilling with the formation of high ridges is recommended. Otherwise, from an agrotechnical point of view, the Lugovskoy variety is very easy to grow, just do not forget about preventive treatment of plantings from diseases and pests and, if necessary, update the seed material. It is also important to maintain crop rotation on the site - the best predecessors are cabbage, cucumber, zucchini, legumes, beets, garlic, onions, green manure.

Plants are highly resistant to cancer. Relatively not susceptible to late blight, moderately resistant to common scab, various viruses, black leg. When carrying out preventive measures, they are not affected by the Colorado potato beetle and wireworm.

Gardeners especially appreciate this variety for its reliability and consistently high yield. One of the main advantages is also the excellent taste of the tubers, the dishes from them are very tender and "airy". In addition, they are easy to clean thanks to their even shape and thin skin with invisible eyes. Another plus is that the pulp does not darken during cutting and heat treatment. It is worth noting the excellent presentation of the potatoes, very good keeping quality. It has practically no drawbacks, except perhaps a moderate sensitivity to soil fertility and sufficient watering. Also, due to the thin peel, Lugovskoy is not particularly suitable for machine harvesting and transportation over long distances - the tubers are poorly resistant to mechanical damage.

This potato has proven itself very well in small farms and amateur garden plots in many regions of Russia, and has a large number of positive reviews. When choosing it, you will never be left without a crop, even if the weather is not entirely successful.

Cultivation is officially carried out by: LLC "Litvinovskoye" in Tver, CJSC "Oktyabrskoye" and CJSC "Pedigree plant" Prinevskoye "" in the Leningrad region. Timiryazev in Moscow, peasant farm "Egorsha" in the Tula region.
