Gooseberry variety Pink 2

In recent years, interest in gooseberries has certainly increased. This is due to new varieties with excellent characteristics. But at the same time, old, proven cultures are successfully cultivated. One of them is Pink 2. This is a domestic variety, bred in 1963 at the Moscow Fruit and Berry Experimental Station (now VSTISP). The species was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation in 1971, the regions of admission are Central (Moscow, Tula, Bryansk, Ryazan, Vladimir, Smolensk, Ivanovsk, Kaluga regions) and East Siberian (Krasnoyarsk, Trans-Baikal Territories, Irkutsk Region, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Khakassia, Tuva, Buryatia). The variety is recommended for amateur cultivation, industrial cultivation is also possible, but on fertile soils.

Description

The plant is medium-sized, the bush is semi-spreading and dense. Young shoots are green, not pubescent, medium-thick, upright, flexible. Woody, the shoots become thick, with a light gray bark, speckled with characteristic strokes along the entire length of the shoot. Gooseberry fruiting occurs on 2- and 3-year-old branches. Thorniness is weak. The thorns are single, long, but not thick, dark-colored, slightly shiny, growing perpendicular to the shoot or downward. Evenly distributed along the entire length of the shoot. Buds in Pink 2 are small, oblong, growing, pressing against the shoot. The leaves of the variety are rather large, green, located obliquely relative to the shoot. The surface is slightly wrinkled, slightly shiny. The shape of the leaf plate is three-lobed, the central lobe is higher than the lateral ones, the lobes are with pointed tops. The teeth are large, obtuse. The lateral lobes are widely spaced, joining; the midribs of the lateral lobes form an acute angle. The basal lobes are underdeveloped. The petiole is thick, of regular length, the base of the leaf plate is straight. The petiole trace is rounded. Brush one-flowered, rarely two-flowered. The flower is big. Sepals are light green, with pink edges, slightly curved.

Gooseberry fruits are round-oval, rather large - 5 - 6 grams, maximum weight - 10 grams. The calyx is round, large, open. The color is pink-red, dark red when fully ripe. The skin is quite dense, with a slight waxy coating, without pubescence. The taste is sweet and sour, dessert. Assessment of tasters - 4.9 - 5.0 points. The seeds are large. The peduncle is of medium length. 100 grams of raw product contains: soluble solids 13.4%, total sugars 9.4%, titratable acids 1.7%, ascorbic acid 16.0 mg, P-active substances 20.0 mg.

Characteristics

  • Pink 2 ripens mid-term;
  • The yield, according to the State Register, is 100 - 120 kg / ha or 3-4 kg per bush. According to VNIISPK, this figure is 11.1 t / ha or 5 kg of bush;
  • in relation to winter hardiness, the State Register puts up an average rating, in other sources it is said about the high ability of a plant to withstand a complex of environmental influences in winter;
  • the immunity of the variety is quite high - the gooseberry has field resistance to powdery mildew, anthracnose and septoria;
  • thanks to the dense skin of the fruit, it becomes possible to transport the crop of Pink 2 over long distances. Storage is also possible, but subject to the required humidity and temperature conditions;
  • the way of eating fruits is universal. Dessert berries are consumed in their natural form and made from them high-quality blanks.

Agrotechnics

The variety requires high agricultural technology. The planting site is sunny, soils with a loose structure, highly fertile. Without top dressing and sufficient watering, large berries cannot be obtained.Thinning pruning is mandatory.

Pink 2 is a rather rare variety, not often found in nurseries. It is all to blame for the difficulties in reproduction and high requirements for agricultural technology, in particular for soil fertility. This gooseberry is valued for its taste, high immunity, self-fertility and good winter hardiness.
