Raspberry variety Orange miracle
Another "Miracle" of Kazakov's selection. Another variety that made a splash in our country after its appearance. It is now summer residents and gardeners who are a little spoiled by foreign varieties with a yellow berry - Anna (Anne), Golden Autumn (Fall Gold), Morning Dew (Porana Rosa), Double Gold (Double Gold), Yellow Zyugana (Yellow Sugana) and others. there are enough of our yellow-fruited varieties, including Golden Autumn, but this time from Bryansk, not foreign selection. All of these varieties are now available, and the main problem is just choosing the right one. And 10 years ago, the remontant Russian yellow-fruited raspberry that appeared was really elite. Until they really figured it out. The description of the Orange Miracle on some sites makes you smile - a brilliant breakthrough in breeding, the most unique raspberry
History of creation
The variety was bred by Russian breeders - academician of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences with a world name I.V. Kazakov and Doctor of Agricultural Sciences S.N. Evdokimenko. Work on the creation was carried out at the Kokinsky strong point (Bryansk region), which is the generally recognized "crimson capital" of Russia. Russian patent No. 4840 was issued in 2009. Patent expiration date -
Description
Large-fruited remontant variety with yellow berries for universal use. Fruiting occurs mainly on annual shoots. Raspberries are of medium ripening; on the shoots of the current year, they begin to bear fruit from mid-July in the southern regions, in others - in early to mid-August. For example, in the Moscow region, ripening begins approximately from August 10.
The orange miracle has good growth vigor, the bush is powerful, relatively tall, mainly up to 1.5-2 meters, but it can reach 2.5 meters with good agricultural technology and regular provision of the plant with the necessary amount of moisture. Stems are medium-grained and medium-thick in width. Shoot-forming ability is high, there are 6 to 10 shoots. The habit of the bush is medium spreading, but it grows strongly in breadth. Shoots without a trellis are very unstable, under the weight of a bountiful harvest they strongly lean to the side. And the wind, even insignificant, generally swings them like a pendulum. In this case, the fruits are significantly damaged against the stems, thorns and against each other. This damage is facilitated by the low density of the fruit and the poor elasticity of the skin.
Raspberries produce a lot of root growth. Young growth (nettle) can be lemon green. An excellent option for reproduction, but for rich fruiting, its regular cutting is required, since the growth takes up strength from the main bush. Regular pruning is also required to prevent thickening of the plantings. Orange miracle - moderately thorny variety, medium-sized thorns, but sharp, green, more concentrated at the base of the shoot, their density is less frequent on the greater half of the stem.
The shoots themselves are green, in the fall they become woody and acquire a brown tint, but the upper part remains light green. They are covered with a slight waxy coating and slightly pubescent. The leaves are oval, medium-sized, green, wrinkled, strongly twisted, slightly pubescent, the leaf teeth are medium-sharp. The lateral fruiting branches are practically glabrous, with a weak waxy coating and sparse thorns, slightly pubescent. Raspberry flowers are numerous, white, medium in size, with a diameter of 1-1.5 cm. Blossoming of the Orange miracle is amicable, begins in June.
The berries of the variety are beautiful, chiseled, elongated-conical, spindle-shaped, with a wide base and a significant narrowing downward, with a rounded nose, slightly pubescent. With an approximate ratio of width in the upper and lower parts of 2 to 1. Fruits are large and very large, mainly weighing 5-7 grams, but can be poured up to 10-12 grams. Their length is usually from 2.5 to 4 cm, sometimes they grow up to 5 cm. Drupes are small, homogeneous, tightly interconnected. Overripe berries hang on the bush for a long time without crumbling. Fruit color from pale yellow to rich amber-orange in full ripeness, with a glossy sheen. The berries play very beautifully in the sun's rays, as if glowing from the inside, making the bush a decoration of the site.
Separately, I would like to note that, mainly due to which the Orange Miracle fell in love with gardeners, despite all its many disadvantages. This is the taste of berries. The fruits are really very sweet, but not sugary. The taste is rich, raspberry-rich. The pulp is tender, juicy, melting in the mouth, with a slight piquant sourness and has an excellent thick aroma. The variety belongs to those varieties of raspberries, the berries of which are eaten directly from the bush. And it can be very difficult to stop. Sugar and acid in berries are very well balanced. The fruits contain: 3.6% sugar, 1.1% acid and 68 mg% vitamin C. Thanks to this, even with a low sugar level, the berries are sweet and tasty.
The experts' tasting score of fresh fruit was 4 points. But a more real and meaningful assessment is always our assessment of gardeners and summer residents who grow this variety on their site. And in 90% of cases, or even more, the assessment of the taste of the Orange Miracle is a solid five, or even an five with a plus! Often, just for the sake of taste, these raspberries are kept on the site. Of course, not everything is perfect here either. For some gardeners, the berries are frankly sour, the taste is inexpressive, simple ... Weather conditions, site location, soil composition, lack of nutrients, diseases can affect
The keeping quality and transportability of the fruits is very, very bad ... It can even be argued that they simply do not exist! Ripe berries are deformed in the hands during picking and flow in a container right before our eyes. You can only get to the market if it is right next to you. Moreover, you need to pluck the fruits together with the stalk. Orange Miracle - a variety exclusively "for yourself". There can be no talk of any plans for serious commercial cultivation, let alone large industrial plantings! For personal use and processing only. Moreover, processing is desirable right at the collection point. And one more nuance for the collection. The variety will delight you only if you choose a berry regularly, at least every other day. Therefore, those who rarely visit the country house or garden plot at the time of its fruiting, this raspberry is unlikely to like and fit.
What the fruits of this variety are great for is for processing, thanks to their organoleptic properties. Jams, preserves, compotes, juices - all these products are not only tasty and aromatic, but also have an "exotic" yellow color. Fragrant amber jam is especially good from the fruits of this raspberry.
The Orange Miracle ripens by the end of October, yields up to 70-85% of the harvest. In the south, the percentage is even higher. According to comparative studies, the plant forms up to 20 laterals per shoot. Up to hundreds of ripe berries can hang on one bush at once. The fruiting zone is 2/3 of the entire shoot. The minimum yield is 10-13 t / ha, 2-2.5 kg per bush, the average is 4 kg, the maximum yield is up to 8 kg (raspberries give 1 kg from a well-developed shoot). The average yield is 15.5 t / ha. A case is described when summer residents received up to 12 kg from a bush. But if this is true, then near this bush you just need to live in a tent, devoting all your free time to it.
The quote from the description of the originators in the State Register is frankly surprising: "When cultivated, raspberries are resistant to diseases and pests at the level of standard varieties."I would like to ask - at the level of what varieties is Orange Miracle stable? The most painful ??? In practice, everything is exactly the opposite. This variety is heavily affected by spotting, especially if the weather is humid and cool. If you do not carry out preventive treatments, then by the fall the bushes can all become covered with spots. There is also a strong defeat by gray rot, especially at the time of fruiting, even unripe fruits rot. In hot and dry weather, it is often affected by a tick. And the aphid loves to feast on this raspberry.
The orange miracle has proven good frost resistance. In winter it can withstand temperatures of -35 ° C. But the fact is recorded that in the Leningrad region the variety froze out at -27 ° C and some local nurseries refused to sell it. Maybe it was influenced by strong winds, high humidity together with low temperatures. In most regions, our heroine shows herself steadfastly in this indicator.
According to the cultivation technology, autumn mowing of shoots is provided for at zero. The same operation can be carried out in early spring after bud break. It is possible to get part of the harvest on last year's stems, but the main percentage is the fall harvest. I would like to note one more thing. And remember and tell about this to those who, considering themselves "professors", everywhere describe the summer harvest they receive on the rems. Moreover, on varieties that are not adapted to this. And then they wonder why in the fall a significant part of the fruits "went into winter." And all because it is advisable to practice this only on real tutimers or remontants with a very early ripening period. The reason is that leaving raspberry stalks for the second harvest significantly (by an average of two weeks) shifts the ripening of fruits on young shoots of this year towards winter. Pinching the tops will also delay fruiting and result in excessive thickening.
Strengths
- The taste of the Orange Miracle berries is really on top! The pulp is tender, juicy and very aromatic. Good balance of sugar and acid.
- The most beautiful fruits of spectacular shape and original color. During fruiting, the bush is a decoration of the site.
- Good yield and ripening time. It gives up to 80% (and in the south, if the autumn is warm, and up to 90-100%) of the harvest.
- Powerful growth force, there will be no problems with the emergence of replacement shoots. But given this, it is necessary to plant raspberries with a large distance between the bushes. Or, when planting plants in 50 cm increments, regularly cut out unnecessary stems, leaving 10-12 pieces per running meter of a row. And maintain a wide row spacing of 2.5-3 meters. Although it is unlikely that someone will plant this variety in more or less large volumes. Basically it is kept by several bushes "for themselves". If you grow an orange miracle with a bush, then the distance in a row is desirable from 1 meter.
- The fruits are great for processing.
- Good frost resistance up to -35 ° C.
Weak sides
- The berry is strongly baked in the sun, the variety itself is generally poorly resistant to heat and drought.
- Very poor quality of raspberries, they flow after picking literally before our eyes, do not have a shelf life.
- Sampling should be carried out almost daily, as an option every other day, since the fruits quickly overripe. If you collect them rarely, then there is a high probability of getting just a complete "substandard".
- After rains, in humid, and especially wet and cool weather, the berries rot very quickly, if they are not harvested, an outbreak of diseases and loss of yield is possible. The fruits become gray from rot. For the Orange miracle, dry, moderately sunny weather without extreme temperatures in the shade is optimal, and not just in the sun.
- A variety only for oneself, without market prospects.
- With prolonged high humidity and cool weather, the taste of the fruit may "blur". It happens with a berry. It becomes watery, absolutely, as the people say, “none”. To put it simply, taste deteriorates greatly. This also happens when growing these raspberries in regions with too hot summers, especially in recent years. The berry becomes bland in the heat. It is as if it is "cooked", baked in the sun, and the taste and sweetness disappear. Therefore, it is necessary to plant in partial shade or shade using shade nets. But by autumn, when the temperature drops, everything will return to normal. But without protective measures, you can lose a significant part of the crop over the summer. This species is generally poorly resistant to some diseases and pests.
At the end of the article, I would also like to note this. For the first time, when people just see and then taste the beautiful and tasty orange berries, of which there are a lot, there is an irresistible desire to immediately plant the entire area with this variety. But after some time, when they get to know the Orange miracle better, many have a desire to say goodbye to him once and for all. And most of them do it. So be careful and don't be tempted. First, let the raspberries spend a full season with you. Well, and then, having analyzed everything, decide for yourself. And maybe the Orange Miracle will bring a piece of miracle into your life!

This variety has been growing for me for three seasons, and it is too early to draw unambiguous conclusions. I was attracted to it by unusual orange berries of an elongated shape, it looks interesting against the background of red-fruited varieties. Taste qualities, I would still call average - raspberries are not bad, but nothing outstanding, they differ in taste from red (which is quite expected). It does not multiply very quickly - in the first year there were 2 replacement shoots, in the second 3, in the third - 5-6. The yield of the crop is stretched out in time and lasts until the first frost - no matter how anyone, but this property suits me perfectly. The article was written in a critical manner, but this variety did not cause a negative for me - “for collection” it is quite possible to leave it on the site.
I read about this raspberry when I was looking on the websites which varieties of it are suitable for growing in our area. “On fire” - because of the unusual color of the berries I wanted to try it. So far, only one season has passed after planting, but the first berries have already pleased. For food "from the bush" - are irreplaceable! And the jam turns out, both in color and in taste - like honey!
