Tomato variety Vater Rhine

A very interesting variety of German selection, called Vater Rhein (original name - Vater Rhein) is a rather old variety, according to available information, which is included in the Genebank of the German Plant Institute, bearing the name of Leibniz. The State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia does not appear. Distributed by amateur breeders, often marked "Author's seeds". Sometimes the withered characteristics do not correspond to the received ones. This may be due to weather conditions, improper care or misgrading. According to observations, the tomato is suitable for growing in central Russia in greenhouses.

Description

Plant of semi-determinant type, moderate vigor, up to 1.5 meters high. The description says that the bush is not spreading, slender, slightly leafy, with drooping, thin green leaves of the usual type. Shoot-forming ability is low. The internodes are short. The fruit cluster is mainly formed from 3 - 5 ovaries. Inflorescences are formed every 2 - 3 leaves.

The fruits are beautiful. The shape is charming, heart-shaped, with an elongated nose at the top, the surface is slightly ribbed, there are cheeks at the base, the density is moderate. The skin is not thick, glossy. Unripe tomato is light green, without a spot at the stalk. Ripe turns bright red. The pulp is very fleshy, tender, juicy, sugary on the break, aromatic. The consistency, according to the description, is oily, but quite dense, it holds its shape when cut. There are many seed chambers, more than 6, but they are small, there are few seeds. The varietal tomato tastes excellent, sweet, with a distant sourness. But in order to achieve a decent result, it is important that the tomatoes fully ripen on the bush. Some people compare the taste of our hero with the Babushkino variety, but note that Vater Rein is much fleshy. True, there are vegetable growers who were unhappy with the taste, calling it bland. The variety is famous for its large-fruited, the mass of tomatoes is from 400 to 700 grams. In some foreign sources, the mass is indicated as less - 200 - 300 grams. Vegetable growers often confirm this information, indicating that normal weight is nevertheless closer to these indicators. The largest fruits ripen in the lower clusters, in the upper ones they are rather small.

Characteristics

  • In terms of ripening, our hero belongs to the mid-season. On average, 110 days pass from emergence to the beginning of fruiting. After transplanting seedlings, the fruits ripen in 70 - 75 days;
  • many tomato growers note the resistance of the variety to cracking. The fruits are able to withstand even small hail in the open field;
  • there is no exact information about the yield of tomato. Seed distributors declare high productivity of the variety, the same information is found on foreign sites. But many growers talk about medium or low yields;
  • there is no specific information about the immunity of Vater Rein, there are only general phrases about good resistance to major diseases;
  • the transportability of the fruits is at an average level, but many call the keeping quality quite good;
  • the way of use is universal. First of all, tomatoes are used for making salads, but they are also suitable for processing into juices, sauces, pasta.

Agrotechnics

Tomatoes are grown in seedlings. Seeds are sown about 50-60 days before transplanting into the ground. By the way, many people note that the seedlings look very frail. Planting density - 3, maximum 4 plants per square meter. Bushes must be tied to a support. Form a plant in 2 - 3 stems. Timely pinching and head removal helps to achieve the best yield.When formed into 1 stem, with 2 - 3 clusters, very large specimens can be grown. Preventive spraying is required.

Despite its considerable age, not much is known about the Vater Rhine species. Vegetable growers keep it in their collection primarily for the amazingly beautiful fruits and excellent taste. According to many, the culture shows the best results when grown in greenhouses. If you managed to get a real variety, then you can always collect seed from the most beautiful tomato yourself.
