Tomato variety Nastenka
With the beginning of the garden season approaching, many tomato growers are beginning to look for information on new varieties that can be included in their collection. I would like to add information about a variety with a very tender name - Nastenka to the knowledge box, because there are so many laudatory reviews about her. The novelty was announced in 2007 by several organizations at once - LLC Agrofirma "Seeds of Altai", KFH "Kondakov Sergey Nikolaevich" and LLC "Center for Breeding Technologies". The tomato showed excellent results in all regions and in 2008 was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia. Recommended for growing in open ground and under film shelters in personal subsidiary plots. Not a hybrid.
Description
The plant belongs to determinant species, its growth, as a rule, does not exceed 70 cm. But in a greenhouse it can grow up to 90 cm. A standard bush with a strong stem, shoot-forming ability and leafiness are average. The thickening of the bush is small. The leaves are medium-sized, tomato-like, medium-wrinkled, green. The yellow flowers are collected in a simple type of inflorescence. Each fruit cluster of Nastenka has 5 - 8 ovaries. The peduncle of the variety has an articulation.
Tomato fruits are beautiful, elongated, heart-shaped, slightly ribbed, moderately dense, thick-walled. The skin is thin, but strong enough, casts a weak gloss. Unripe tomato is green, when ripe it becomes deep pink. The pulp is fleshy, unusually tender, juicy, but a small amount of liquid flows out when the fruit is cut. The taste is sweet due to the increased sugar content - 3.35% in 100 grams of raw product. Seed chambers are small, but numerous - 6 pieces or more. The mass of a tomato, according to the State Register, is 126 grams, in other sources the usual weight is indicated up to 200 grams, the maximum is 500 grams. Fruits in the upper clusters are not inferior in weight to the very first ones. The palatability is noted as good and excellent.
Variety characteristics
- Nastenka ripens in medium terms, from the moment of emergence of full shoots to the beginning of fruiting, it takes from 105 to 110 days;
- the yield, according to the reviews of gardeners who grew this variety, is 10 - 12 kg per 1 square meter per season, from one bush to 2.5 kg. True, in the State Register this figure is already very low - only 2.0 kg per sq. meters;
- the plant is very hardy, copes well with adverse weather conditions, especially resistant to cold snaps. For the ability to set fruits in any climate, the species fell in love with tomato growers living in regions with short and cold summers;
- Nastenka's drought resistance is also noted, which allows for some time to do without watering;
- the immunity of the tomato also did not disappoint, the variety is especially reliable in relation to phytophthora, which is very beneficial to novice gardeners;
- with pests, everything is much more complicated, the plant can suffer from whiteflies, spider mites and slugs;
- the culture is sensitive to excessive watering, with waterlogging, especially in greenhouses, tomatoes crack;
- unripe tomatoes harvested at the end of the season are perfectly ripened at home;
- the transportability and keeping quality of Nastenka's harvest are excellent, the fruits do not crumple and retain their presentation for a long time;
- the way of eating tomatoes is universal. Tomatoes are very tasty, so the harvest is primarily used fresh, for example, in salads. But from the collected fruits, excellent preparations are obtained - juice, pasta, pouring for preserving other vegetables. And thick-walled tomatoes are great for drying.
Agrotechnics
To grow the variety is most correct in a seedling way. For seedlings, seeds are sown in the usual period - the end of March - the beginning of April, although in the southern regions you can start sowing at the end of February. Seedlings are grown in the usual way, I just want to note that Nastenka's seedlings are quite strong. Suitable age for transplant is 55-60 days. The recommended planting density is up to 6 plants per square meter. Planting scheme - 30 - 40 cm between bushes, up to 70 cm row spacing. Despite the standard type, the bush must be tied to a support, because during the ripening of the fruit brushes, the stem may bend. A culture is formed in 3 - 4 stems, while pinching is moderate. Many write that they do not remove stepchildren at all, since they are very small. To grow the largest tomato possible, you need to resort to rationing. Watering culture loves abundant, but not excessive. Waterlogging can turn into fungal diseases. The plant is responsive to fertilizing, especially at the time of the formation of the crop. Preventive treatments will get rid of the troubles associated with diseases and pests.
Nastenka is recognized by many tomato growers as a very successful variety. It is quite unpretentious, so even a beginner can take up its cultivation. And experienced gardeners have long had a variety in their collection, especially since you can collect seed on your own. The yield, according to reviews, is good, tomatoes have an excellent taste, housewives are happy to make blanks out of them. The compactness of the plant allows you to economically use the available areas. Dissatisfied reviews about this tomato are mainly related to the quality of the seed.
