Tomato variety Pink flamingo

Pink-fruited tomatoes are quite moody. But, despite the exactingness of care, they are grown for the sake of special taste. One of the varieties with a truly unrivaled flavor is the Pink Flamingo. It was created by S.V. Maximov in collaboration with a group of scientists from the State Scientific Institution of the All-Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Growing. The variety was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation in 2007. The originator is Agrofirma Poisk LLC. Approval is available for the North Caucasian region (Republics of Adygea, Ingushetia, North Ossetia-Alania, Crimea, Chechen, Kabardino-Balkarian, Dagestan, Krasnodar and Stavropol regions, Rostov region), but tomato grows just as well in the Central region (Bryansk, Tula, Ivanovskaya, Vladimirskaya, Smolensk, Moscow, Ryazan, Kaluga regions).

The variety is quite famous in Ukraine. Recommended for growing in open ground and under film shelters in personal subsidiary plots. It is not a hybrid, the seed material for further breeding can be harvested independently. There are a lot of reviews about this variety, but some of them contradict each other, in video reviews you can see tomatoes with an uncharacteristic shape and color. So what does a Pink Flamingo from LLC Agrofirma Poisk really look like and what characteristics does it have?

Description

In the State Register, the plant is described as determinant and medium-sized. In the description from the agrofirm "Poisk" the height is indicated 40 - 50 cm. Shoot formation is moderate, leafiness is average. Although the leaves are not the largest in size, they look very impressive - dark green, juicy, with a medium corrugated surface. The sheet type is normal. The flowers are yellow, collected in simple inflorescences. On average, up to 5 brushes are tied on the stem, each of which has about 4 - 5 ovaries. The peduncle of the variety has an articulation.

Fruits of Pink Flamingos are round, slightly ribbed, moderately dense. The skin is thin, glossy. Unripe tomato is green, with a small dark green spot at the stalk. At the stage of consumer ripeness, the tomato turns pink or pink-crimson, the stain disappears. The pulp is fleshy, juicy, tender, sugary, without voids, light pink, aromatic. The number of seed nests is from 4 to 6. There are few seeds. Ripe tomatoes and tomato juice taste excellent. The juice contains: 5.6 - 6.8% dry matter, 2.6 - 3.7% sugar. The average fruit weight is from 75 to 110 grams. Tomatoes on the first cluster, as a rule, are larger than the subsequent ones.

Variety characteristics

  • The pink flamingo is a mid-season species - from the moment of full sprouting to the beginning of ripening, 100 - 105 days pass;
  • the yield of marketable fruits, according to the State Register, is 234 - 349 c / ha, while the Dara of the Volga region, taken as the standard, has a minimum indicator below - 176 c / ha, but the maximum is slightly higher - 362 c / ha;
  • the fruiting period lasts until cold snaps;
  • yield of marketable fruits - 68 - 87%;
  • thin skin does not protect tomatoes from cracking;

  • sometimes yellow-green shoulders remain on the ripe fruit. This can be due to a decrease in air temperature or a lack of trace elements, most often potassium;
  • the originator indicates the general high resistance of the variety to diseases, but does not provide specific data. Although other sources mention resistance to fusarium wilt, tobacco mosaic virus, late blight;
  • transportability of tomatoes is low, as well as keeping quality;
  • the way of eating the fruits is universal, although the sugary pulp of the Pink Flamingo has more of a salad purpose. Tomatoes of this variety can be preserved and processed into tomato products.

Agrotechnics

Of course, it is best to grow such a capricious species by seedling. The seed is sown in March. The dived and hardened seedlings are ready for transplanting into the ground in 2 months.Despite the fact that there is no indication of tying a bush in the growing recommendations, it is still better to do this so that the stem does not fall over. The planting pattern is usual - 40 cm between plants and 50 cm row spacing, a little more is possible. It is recommended to form into 1 or 2 stems. The plot for cultivating the variety is allocated sunny, it is desirable that the predecessors were dill, parsley, zucchini, cauliflower.

To get a tomato crop that will not disappoint, you will have to familiarize yourself with the rules of agricultural technology. Watering is moderate, but sufficient. When the soil is waterlogged, the fruits of the Pink Flamingo crack, overdrying is also unacceptable. Watering is carried out with warm water, best of all in the evening, making sure that the liquid does not fall on the leaves. The first feeding is carried out 2 weeks after planting the seedlings in the ground. Organic and universal mineral fertilizers are acceptable as fertilizers. The nutrient solution is applied only to moist soil so as not to burn the roots. It is imperative to carry out preventive treatments for diseases and pests. Indoors, it is necessary to strictly control the humidity of the air, if this indicator exceeds 65%, the plant can be affected by fungal diseases, show a decrease in yield.

Due to the fact that the Pink Flamingo is extremely popular, the described variety can be purchased on the seed market from other producers. Despite the same names, the appearance and characteristics of these crops will differ. We will not list everything, but we will dwell on the most common ones.

  • "Agrofirma Biotekhnika"... The plant is semi-determinate, 1.2 - 1.5 meters high. Tomatoes have the form of large cream, pink color, weight from 150 to 170 grams. The taste is excellent. The tomato is high-yielding, can be stored well, and is used for whole-fruit canning. In terms of ripening, it is medium early, 110 - 115 days pass from germination to harvest. It is recommended to form 3 - 4 stems with 6 - 7 clusters.
  • Veles trade mark... The plant is semi-determinate, the height of the bush is 1.2 - 1.5 meters. The shape of a pink-fruited tomato is elongated and heart-shaped. The pulp is fleshy, sugary. Weight - from 150 to 400 grams.
  • GL SEEDS... Indeterminate tomato, up to 1.5 meters high. The fruits are flat-round-conical in shape and look very original. Painted in a pink-crimson color, excellent taste. Fruit weight - 300 - 400 grams. The variety is medium early, with a growing season of 130 - 135 days.

There is also information that the described variety has another name - Bells of Russia. But this is incorrect information. The Bells of Russia tomato is a separate species, also registered in the State Register, but somewhat earlier - in the year 2000. And his applicants are different.

Although the pink flamingo from Poisk Agrofirm requires a special approach, it undoubtedly pleases with the taste of the fruit. Of course, it will be difficult for an inexperienced gardener to immediately get an excellent result, but you certainly shouldn't give up. Before growing this variety, make sure the climate in your region is suitable for growing it. If the summer is cold and moody, it is best to plant tomatoes in a greenhouse.

Why are there such different estimates of the height of the variety? I bought a bag, but now I don't know where to plant it in the greenhouse ?!

You are absolutely right.A year ago, I also noticed such a discrepancy and decided to find out the truth from my own experience. Last year I planted the seeds of the Poisk agrofirm. We looked after like a child, all according to the recommendations indicated on the bag and on the website. We have a region with a sharply continental climate - the summer before last it was up to +43, and in winter it reaches -40. I planted the seeds in early April in a greenhouse from window frames (I have planted this for 3 years already). I planted the seedlings in open ground after 50 days. And now about what happened. A bush unlike ordinary tomatoes. Can't be confused with anything. Height 70−80 cm. the bush practically forms itself into 1−2 (mainly 2) stems. The seedlings grew straight, firm, but fragile. I was not going to tie it up, but when the plants outgrew those promised by the "Poisk" agrofirm, 40-50 cm and grew up to 80 cm, and then the fruits appeared up to 250-300g, I had to tie it up, otherwise they would fall over and break. The fruits are beautiful and tasty. Made juice, amazing! Delicious in salads! But it is unlikely that it will be possible to preserve, because the fruits simply will not crawl into the neck of the jar. The taste is excellent, the pulp is juicy, there are not many seeds, the skin is thin. This is good for food, but not very good for harvesting, because they can burst at any moment. Diseases. Everywhere I read about Pink Flamingos, it is said about high resistance to diseases. As soon as the fruits began to sing, I had something like a tobacco mosaic on the leaves (which I immediately removed). This did not seem to affect the yield and presentation, but I continued to cut suspicious leaves until the harvest was complete. By the way, leafiness and branching are really average, if not even lower than average.
