Tomato variety One hundred pounds

Hearing the name of a tomato One hundred pounds, surely every gardener will show a genuine interest in this variety, because the name is promising. The creation of a large-fruited novelty in 2012 was announced by Agrofirma Aelita LLC. In the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia, the variety is included in the 2013th year. Good results of variety trials allowed the crop to get admission to cultivation in all regions of the country. The variety is recommended for cultivation under film shelters and in the open field of personal subsidiary plots. The choice of a growing place directly depends on the climate of the region. The novelty immediately became popular with tomato growers due to its unusual shape, large fruits and yield.

Description

The State Register describes the plant as indeterminate. Indoors, the height of a tomato reaches 1.5 - 2.0 meters, some say that after overcoming this line, the bushes continue to grow. On an open bed, growth is more modest - 1.0 - 1.2 meters. The plant looks powerful, the stem is strong. The shoot-forming ability of the variety is moderate. Average leafiness. The leaves of a hundred pounds are large, dark green in color, of the usual type, with a slightly corrugated surface. Stem, shoots, petioles and inflorescences are covered with glandular hairs. The inflorescence is intermediate. In each fruit cluster, up to 7 ovaries are formed, although not all tomatoes ripen. But all the same, the brushes are heavy - from 3 to 5 fruits. The first inflorescence is formed over 6 - 7 leaves, the subsequent ones - every 3 leaves. Peduncle without articulation.

The appearance of tomatoes is rather unusual. The form is very original, it immediately attracts the eye. The tomato can be barrel-shaped or pear-shaped, with a pronounced longitudinal ribbing. From a distance, a pear-shaped, folded tomato looks like a knotted pouch. Unripe fruit One hundred pounds is colored light green, there is no dark spot at the stalk. A ripe tomato turns deep red, some tomato growers describe the color as red-orange. The skin is glossy, thin, but strong enough, not hard. The great advantage of the variety is that the skin is removed from the pulp quite easily, you don't even need to scald it with boiling water. Many fleshy tomato varieties suffer from green shoulders, but our hero in this regard shows an excellent degree of ripeness and color. This is facilitated by unhurried ripening.

Thick-walled tomatoes, medium density. The pulp is evenly colored, but there may be a slight whiteness on the cut at the base - this is not a drawback, but a varietal feature. Also, the pulp is fleshy, due to the increased dry matter content and delicate consistency. The aroma is bright, fresh. When cut into slices, the flesh does not drain. The number of seed chambers is 4 - 6 (sometimes you can count a dozen). The chambers are small, asymmetric, as a rule, well filled, with a small amount of seeds. But sometimes voids inside a tomato can be found, however, they are very small and do not affect the overall impression. The State Register describes the taste of one hundred poods as good. Vegetable growers have a higher opinion of taste. They note the high content of sugars, but at the same time a subtle sourness is felt, so we can confidently call the taste pronounced, real, tomato. Fruit weight according to the State Register is 200 - 260 grams. The originator claims a weight of 170 to 250 grams. In fact, tomatoes grow even larger - 300 grams, and this is not a rarity, but rather a pattern. Some specimens even exceed 500 grams. Another quality appreciated by tomato growers is that the fruits on all hands, from lower to upper, practically do not differ from each other in weight.

On the forums, information is very often found that the varieties from Aelita One hundred pounds and Puzata khata are the same variety, just agricultural firms sell seeds under different names.At first glance, such an impression is really created. These tomatoes are very similar, and not only in appearance. But in fact, Puzata Khata is a completely independent variety, also listed in the State Register of Russia in 2013. And if you carefully study the information, then there are still differences between the two species. Take at least the weight, at the Puzata hut the tomatoes are heavier - 200 - 260 grams, in terms of ripening it belongs to the early ripening, but in terms of taste it is inferior. In addition, many gardeners are unhappy with the hollowness of the Puzata hut, which suffers from this defect much more often than our hero.

Characteristics

  • One hundred poods in the State Register is described as a mid-season species. Fruit ripening occurs in 110 - 115 days from the moment of full sprouting. Of course, the climatic zone has a great influence on the ripening period. So, in cold regions in an open garden, tomatoes may not fully ripen at all. In order not to rely on the weather in areas of risky farming, it is recommended to grow the variety in greenhouses;
  • the fruiting period is long - the variety sets fruit before the onset of cold weather. In the open field, the culture bears fruit until mid-September, and in greenhouses - 2 weeks longer;
  • the yield of marketable fruits under film shelters is 8.5 - 9.0 kg per 1 square meter (according to the State Register). On average, this is not a bad result. Many vegetable growers are, in principle, satisfied with the yield indicators. So, with good care, the yield per plant can be 5.0 - 6.0 kg;
  • like most large-fruited tomatoes, our hero can sometimes suffer from cracking of the fruit. Most often this happens in greenhouse conditions when irrigation norms are not observed;
  • the plant perfectly adapts to unfavorable weather conditions, therefore, even in cold weather, it shows good setting. In the south, one hundred pounds also pleases with excellent results;
  • the State Register does not mention the immunity of the variety. The originators also do not provide specific information. But if you rely on the reviews of tomato growers, then the health of the culture is all right. Even in a cold summer, when other species were sick, our hero showed good resistance to bacteriosis, gray rot. Although there are some complaints about the inability to resist late blight, but again, this happens at the very end of the growing season, when the crop is almost harvested;
  • transportability is not bad, ripe tomatoes can even be stored for some time. But there is one drawback - during storage, the pulp loses its wonderful taste and becomes a little loose. Therefore, the harvest of One hundred poods, if stored, is for a short time;
  • the way of consumption is, first of all, salad. But the pulp of excellent consistency makes it possible to make high-quality tomato products from the fruits of this variety - ketchup, juices, pastes.

Agrotechnics

In central Russia, seeds are sown for seedlings in the first 2 weeks of March. The pick is carried out in the phase of 2 true leaves. Transplanting into the ground is carried out when the seedlings are 60 - 65 days old. In the southern and northern regions, the timing is being adjusted. In the south, you can sow seeds in mid-February, in cool areas - in late March - early April (for subsequent transplantation into open ground). According to reviews, seed germination is good, not less than 80%. Seedling care during cultivation is standard. The recommended planting density is 3 to 4 plants per square meter. A tall tomato needs a garter - in the open field it can be grown as a stake crop, in a greenhouse it can be tied to a trellis. To contain the growth of the bush, the emerging stepsons must be removed. In order for one hundred pounds to be able to show the best result, the plant is formed into 1 or 2 stems.Although some tomato growers left more stems as an experiment. But in this case, the weight of the fruits was below average. The variety is very fond of watering, especially in hot climates. But you should not get carried away, waterlogging is fraught with cracking of even unripe tomatoes. Our hero responds to high-quality feeding with an increase in yield, for this you can alternate organic matter and mineral fertilizers. Do not forget about preventive treatments, even a resistant crop needs protection.

In order to speed up the ripening process in cool regions, experienced tomato growers remove foliage under brushes that have begun to ripen. But picking off all the greens at once is not recommended. This should be done gradually - no more than 2 - 3 sheets per week.

One hundred pounds is recognized by most vegetable growers as an excellent crop with excellent varietal qualities, which you want to plant every year. Moreover, once having acquired seeds, you can deal with further harvesting of seed material on your own. The plant is unpretentious, with standard care it will thank you with a good harvest. And the taste of tomatoes grown on a sunny garden bed, which, moreover, have an amazing shape, many vegetable growers never cease to admire. The only inconvenience is the need to tie up the plants. But this is a necessary measure, since heavy hands can easily bend or even break the stem. Finally, I would like to warn gardeners about the frequent cases of re-grading, which spoil the overall positive impressions of the variety.

As an experienced gardener, I can say that the variety is excellent! Over the past few years I have tried many varieties - there are many new products, but few good ones, and this one was very pleasantly surprised. Everything that I consider a "good tomato" with him: strong, powerful bushes, the fruits set well, despite the vagaries of the weather (heat or rain), the yield is good - the fruits are medium-sized, but heavy, fleshy - the fruits consist entirely of pulp, taste excellent - "tomato" (practically without acid). And as for whitish spots, you need to give more potash fertilizers and there will be none.
