Apple variety Boyken (Late winter)

An old German variety. The father said that his grandfather also had two such apple trees. Fruits are large, slightly flattened, ribbed. Smooth, beautiful, green, slightly yellow during storage. The pulp is creamy, with a pleasant consistency. These apples would not have been worth if not for their acidity. I can't even call them sweet and sour, they are too sour for me, I can't eat more than half of an apple. If the autumn is warm, without frost, and you manage to keep the apples on the tree longer, they become a little sweeter. The juice from them turns out to be light, clean, like a tear, but it has to be diluted with water and added sugar. Boyken is ideal for roasting duck or goose with apples. I also use it for baking.

Apples are stored for a long time, but closer to spring they can rot from the middle. As my children say, “stuffed” fruits come across.

The trees bear fruit almost every year. React very positively to fertilization. The apples are getting huge. Characteristically, among the Boyken apples, glassy fruits are often found.
