Nick's pear variety
Nika is a pear with the fruits of the winter ripening period, bred at the GNU VNIIGiSPR them. I.V. Michurina through crossing the Daughter of the Dawn variety with Talgar beauty... The authorship is assigned to S.P. Yakovlev, N.I. Saveliev, A.P. Gribanovsky, M.Yu. Akimov, I.A. Bandurko and V.V. Chivilev. Since 2002, the variety has been zoned in the regions of the Central Black Earth Region.
The trees grow to a medium size and are characterized by an average growth rate. Crohn's sparse, rounded, with firmly fused skeletal branches. Mixed fruiting.
Shoots are medium in thickness, straight, not pubescent, brown in color. Lentils are few in number. The kidneys are smooth, medium-sized, conical in shape. The leaves are medium-sized, oval or round, dark green in color, the top of the leaf is short-pointed, the edges are finely serrated. The leaf blade is slightly curved, at the base it is obtuse, glossy, smooth, with delicate venation along the surface. Petioles are of medium length. Stipules subulate.
Nick's pear fruits grow to an average and above average size (weight ranges from 130 - 150 to 200 grams), have a regular truncated-conical shape. The peel of the fruit is of medium thickness, smooth, oily, with a slight waxy bloom. At the time of picking, the fruits are greenish, there is a cover color in the form of a blurred red blush. At the moment the fruits reach full consumer maturity, their main color becomes light yellow, the integumentary color - brownish-red on most of the fruit. Peduncles of medium length and thickness, curved in shape, set obliquely at the base (that is, obliquely). Funnel of shallow depth, narrow shape. The cup is non-falling, open type. The saucer is very small and wide in size. The heart is small and round. Seed chambers are closed. Seeds are medium in size, conical in shape, colored brown.
The pulp is creamy, medium density, fine-grained, semi-oily, juicy, tender, without astringency and granulation, with a sour-sweet taste and a pleasant light nutmeg aroma. The taste of the variety is assessed on a 5-point tasting scale of 4.4 - 4.5 points. By chemical composition, the fruits contain: dry soluble substances (15.7%), the amount of sugars (10.2%), titratable acids (0.40%), ascorbic acid (6.2 mg / 100 g), P-active substances (122.0 mg / 100 g). A universal variety: pears are consumed directly fresh, and also used in cooking for preservation, preparation of various desserts and drinks (jams, preserves, marmalades, juices, compote, wines, marshmallows, marmalade).
The time for the removable ripeness of fruits falls on the second decade of September (towards the end of the month). Pre-harvest fruit shedding is low. In a refrigerated room, fruits are stored for 3 - 4 months (about 90 - 100 days).
The early maturity of Nick's pear is average: the trees bear fruit annually from 5 to 6 years after planting. The yield is consistently high.
The winter hardiness of the variety is quite high: sufficient for the southern part of the Moscow region, but in the more northern regions, during severe winters, slight freezing is likely, after which the trees recover well. Under conditions of artificial freezing in the middle of winter, when the air temperature drops to minus 38 ° C, xylem is damaged to 0.6 points, the bark and cambium do not freeze. The variety is resistant to scab, entomosporiosis and clasterosporiosis.
The obvious advantages of this pear are: very large, attractive fruits with a dessert taste, high keeping quality of fruits (and, accordingly, their long period of consumption), high resistance to a number of diseases.
Speaking about the disadvantages of the Nika variety, it is worth noting that in the absence of pruning, there is a rapid exposure of the crown and shrinking of the fruits.
