Pear variety Vidnaya

Vidnaya is a pear with fruits of late summer ripening, bred in 1958 at the All-Russian Institute of Selection and Technology of Horticulture and Nursery (abbreviated VSTISP, Moscow) through pollination of the interspecific hybrid form VI-53-67 with a pollen mixture of southern varieties. The authorship is assigned to Yu.A. Petrov and N.V. Efimova. Due to the appearance of the fruit, you can often hear another name for this variety - Bumpy. In 1972, the variety was allocated to the elite. It is zoned in the Central Region. It is most widespread in the backyard gardens of the Moscow and neighboring regions. Pear Vidnaya is of value for industrial gardens and breeding work. This is one of the popular summer varieties among amateur gardeners, perfect for selling off the road (the fruits are picked as they ripen).

The trees are vigorous. The crown is spreading at a young age, but over time it acquires a pyramidal shape and is characterized by an average foliage. The main branches are powerful, large ringlets, are often found, and fruit formations are most often tied on them.

Shoots of medium thickness, long, light brown in color. The leaves are medium in size, with a smooth surface, the edges are raised, serrate-toothed. The petioles are of medium length and thickness. Stipules are lanceolate.

Pear fruits Prominent in size, medium and larger (average weight 150 - 180 g, the largest specimens reach 200 g, the smallest weigh about 130 g), elongated pear-shaped, symmetrical, on the surface - ribbed, uneven (with tubercles ). The skin is firm. By the main color, the fruits are greenish-yellow, the integumentary color is expressed through a light reddish-orange tan. The peduncles are of medium length and thickness, and are curved. The calyx is of medium size, closed over a short, funnel-shaped sub-cup. The seed chambers are small and closed. Seeds of medium size, elongated, brown in color. The axial cavity is medium in size.

Fruit ripening occurs towards the end of August. Moreover, pears ripen at different times, so it is customary to harvest in 2 - 3 stages. First of all, the brightest and largest fruits should be removed from the trees, which usually grow in the most illuminated parts of the crown (from the southeast side). Thus, it is possible to significantly extend the period of pear consumption (by about 1 month), since the fruits are stored in maturation for a very short time (no more than 7 days). Ripe fruits do not crumble, continuing to firmly hold on to the branches. It is not recommended to eat pears in green (that is, slightly unripe), since the pulp quickly becomes mealy. It is also not worth allowing the crop to overripe on the trees, the fruits begin to rot right on the branches.

Early maturity of pears. Average prominent. Trees begin to bear fruit in 4 - 5 years (from a year of growth in a nursery). The yields are plentiful and regular, each tree bears up to 40 - 60 kg of fruit. Winter hardiness is quite high and is not inferior to the level of old average Russian varieties. Resistance to fungal diseases is good.

The variety is self-fertile. Blooming later (late May).

In general, the pear is unpretentious to care for and grows well even on very poor soils (for example, on clay).

The obvious advantages of the variety are: a high level of environmental sustainability, regular bountiful harvests, large, elegant fruits with a good taste, self-fertility.

The main disadvantage is low keeping quality (no more than a week).

I bought a pear Vidnaya. Beginning to bear fruit in the sixth year, but it was worth the wait so long. The pear is juicy, sweet, the fruits reached up to 300 grams, such pears grow only in the south.

High winter hardiness even in harsh winters and excellent fruit taste for the Middle Strip.
The only thing to consider is not to be late with picking, as the fruits very quickly overripe and turn into puree.
