Cabbage variety Zimovka 1474

Cabbage is an excellent nutritious and dietary product suitable for various culinary treatments. But the main value of a vegetable is its ability to long-term storage. Breeders were able to improve this characteristic by extending the shelf life of the product, and thus varieties appeared that perfectly last almost until summer. Among such varieties is Wintering 1474, the name of which already confirms the qualities inherent in it. It was created specifically for winter storage. Its growing season lasts a long time - about 5 months, but the resulting products are distinguished by high marketability and keeping quality. A variety was created at the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Growing" - the oldest and leading breeding institution for vegetable crops in the Russian Federation. The application for the registration of this cabbage was filed in 1937, but the entry into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia, for various reasons, took place only in 1963. The culture is approved for cultivation in 4 regions: Central, Volga-Vyatka, Middle Volga and Far East. Recognized as suitable for cultivation in Kazakhstan. Recommended for fresh consumption from the second half of winter.

Description

The leaf rosette is not too powerful, semi-spreading, medium in size. The leaves of the variety are green with a grayish tinge, rounded, large - length 40 - 48 cm, width - 32 - 46 cm, with a strongly wavy scalloped edge, and a finely wrinkled surface covered with a thick layer of wax bloom. The venation is pinnate, well distinguishable, the veins are not too rigid. The shape of the vegetable is flat-rounded, the circumference of the head is from 74 to 119 cm, the inner leaves are very close to each other, forming a neat and dense head of cabbage with an excellent structure, which is clearly visible on the cut. The inner stump at Zimovka 1474 is of medium length or long, the outer stump is long. The weight of the cabbage fork is from 2.0 to 3.6 kg, the maximum weight is up to 5.0 kg. The taste is very good. The variety is high in sugars and ascorbic acid. The chemical composition of cabbage: dry matter 7.6 - 9.7%, the amount of sugars 3.5 - 4.9%, ascorbic acid 42 - 66 mg /%.

Characteristics

  • In terms of ripening, the State Register classifies the variety as late-ripening. Harvesting starts late, 130 - 145 days after germination, sometimes a week later if weather conditions are unfavorable. It is the late varieties that make up the bulk of the crop suitable for storage;
  • the variety shows a stable yield, the vegetable ripens amicably. Cleaning usually begins with the onset of frost;
  • marketable yield is 450 - 523 c / ha. Gardeners add that on a simple garden bed you can always get from 4.2 to 6.0 kg of high-quality vegetable per 1 square meter;
  • there are practically no losses during harvesting, therefore, the output of marketable products of Zimovka 1474 is high - 92 - 98%;
  • the adaptive qualities of our hero help him to endure unfavorable periods well. Good drought tolerance allows cabbage to be grown in areas with insufficient moisture. In cool regions, both young and adult plants are resistant to sudden temperature changes;
  • due to its dense consistency, the ability to adapt to the dry season and high humidity, the culture does not suffer from cracking;
  • there is resistance to flowering. True, according to the observation of gardeners, such a problem can still arise if the plant grows in the shade;

  • immunity is strong enough. Many sources mention the resistance of our hero to fungal diseases, in particular to gray mold. In recent years, gardeners have complained about the spread of punctate necrosis, which is a physiological disease, but is not transmitted from vegetable to vegetable. Nevertheless, necrosis can greatly impair the presentation of the head of cabbage and shorten the shelf life.So to this disease Zimovka 1474 is resistant, despite the fact that the variety is quite old;
  • the culture is not so resistant to pests (cruciferous flea, aphid, butterflies). To prevent insects from settling in the cabbage bed, destroy weeds, and plant repellent flowers in the vacated space: marigolds, calendula, nasturtium, sage, petunia. Then the cabbage will be intact and the garden will look beautiful. Ordinary wood ash helps well with slugs;
  • transportability is good, in general, the crop perfectly tolerates long-term transportation and is not afraid of mechanical damage;
  • keeping quality is the main virtue of culture. Heads of cabbage can be stored for about 8 months. The peculiarity of the variety is that in the process of storage, the taste of our hero is significantly improved. The bitterness leaves, but the sweetness, on the contrary, is manifested to a greater extent. In order for a head of cabbage to be suitable for consumption in its natural form, it should be aged for at least a month;
  • the way of use is universal. The product is used in its natural form, in home cooking: housewives are well aware of how many tasty and healthy dishes can be prepared from ordinary white cabbage. Also, the variety is great for pickling and pickling. Some sources mentioned the suitability of Wintering 1474 for industrial processing.

Agrotechnics

In personal subsidiary plots, the culture is grown in seedlings. Seeds are sown in the second half of March - early April. Close them up shallowly - 1 cm. Seedlings appear quickly enough, within a week. With a lack of light, the seedlings can stretch out, in this case, backlighting will be needed. Plants are transplanted to a permanent place at the age of 35 - 45 days. If during this period frosts are observed on the soil, the bed is covered with a film. Cabbage is unpretentious to soils, but light, loose and nutritious soils, for example, loams, help it to reveal its potential. The landing site should be well lit. In the shade, the heads of cabbage become small, lose density, and become prone to flowering. The plant has a positive attitude towards watering, but the main requirement is not to overmoisten the soil. Watering is stopped 2 weeks before the start of harvesting. After transplantation, 2 - 3 dressings are carried out using nitrogen-containing and phosphorus-potassium fertilizers. Keeping the garden clean will help curb the development of disease. According to some reports, the culture requires preventive treatment for powdery mildew.

Wintering 1474 is an excellent cabbage for growing not only in summer cottages. She has proven herself well in industrial plantings. In the variety, they value stability, good yields, unpretentiousness and disease resistance.
