Alena potato variety

Alena is an early ripe potato variety (Solanum tuberosum) for table use. Received by specialists of the Siberian Research Institute of Agriculture, namely the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "Omsk Agrarian Research Center". Three varieties were used for breeding: Sedov, Kameraz and Zarevo. In 2000, he was included in the state register of breeding achievements of the Russian Federation. Zoned in five regions of the country: Volgo-Vyatka, Ural, West Siberian, East Siberian, Far East. Differs in stable productivity, the ability to adapt to any soil and climate, resistance to drought and mechanical damage. Suitable for machine cleaning.

From the moment of emergence of full shoots to harvest, 60-70 days pass. The first digging can be carried out on the 45th day of the growing season.

Plant of medium height, intermediate type, medium leafy. Stems are weakly branched, while spreading. The leaves are large, rich green. The leaf is large, wide. The waviness of the edge of the sheet plate is very weak or completely absent. The inflorescence is multi-flowered, spreading. The corolla is medium to large in size and has a reddish-violet color. The flowering is plentiful, but practically no berries are formed in the potato.

About 6-9 large tubers are formed on one plant. The average mass of marketable copies of Alena ranges from 86-167 grams. Tubers are oval in shape, slightly flattened, the apex and stolon mark are depressed. The peel is smooth, red in color. The pulp is white. The eyes are medium in size, shallow. The sprouts are reddish-purple.

According to the results of state tests, the marketable yield is 172-292 c / ha, which is 60-148 c / ha more than the indicators of the Pushkinets variety. In the Omsk region, at the first digging, on the 45th day after full germination, it was possible to get 150 c / ha, 26 c / ha more than the established standard. In the same place, during the second digging, on the 55th day of the growing season, 172 c / ha were collected, at the standard level. The maximum potato yield was recorded in the same region - 391 c / ha, 158 c / ha more than the standards. The marketability of tubers is very high - 81-97%, keeping quality is excellent - 95%.

Alena has very good taste. The tubers are moderately digestible, better suited for frying, especially deep-fried, baking, stuffing, making salads, vegetable mixes and soups, and are ideal for processing into chips. The pulp is not prone to darkening during heat treatment, it has a pleasant texture. Powderiness is average, starch content - 15-17%, reducing sugars - 0.1-0.2%, vitamin C - 17-20 mg%.

This potato variety is undemanding to growing conditions, has good plasticity, is able to adapt to any soil and climate. Moreover, it is drought-resistant, tolerates heat calmly. Plants are unpretentious in care, do not require any special care, except for the simplest agrotechnical techniques. The only caveat is that tubers are strongly recommended to germinate before planting in order to improve germination and shorten the growing season.

Plants are moderately resistant to various viral diseases, early dry spot, rhizoctonia, common scab. Susceptible to golden cyst nematode, the causative agent of late blight (by tops and tubers). Alena is resistant to cancer. Do not neglect timely preventive treatments for diseases, and also do not forget to maintain crop rotation on the site.

The variety is highly valued by gardeners for its reliability, stable high yield, early amicable ripening of tubers and their excellent presentation, drought resistance, suitability for mechanized growing technology. A separate point should be highlighted very good taste, which often play the most important role in choosing a variety for cultivation.

Among the shortcomings, it should be noted susceptibility to such malignant diseases as late blight and golden cyst nematode. Otherwise, Alena is a very good potato, which will surely surprise you with its unpretentiousness and reliability!
