Brilla strawberry variety

Brilla is a very early non-repairable variety of garden strawberry (strawberry) for universal use. It was bred in 2017 by Italian breeders, who have recently greatly delighted strawberry lovers with excellent novelties. So Brilla turned out to be wonderful and began to rapidly gain popularity after its appearance on the market. The variety is distinguished by its excellent presentation, high yield, very good taste of berries, unpretentiousness, resistance to diseases and adverse weather conditions. Also, the novelty has good winter hardiness and frost resistance, which allows it to be successfully grown in the conditions of central Russia and Belarus. In a word, the potential of this Italian is huge, and despite its still short existence, she has already managed to earn an honorable place among such "giants" of the early strawberry market segment as Clery, Alba and Honey.

The plant is medium or tall, rather compact, foliage is good. The root system is powerful. The leaves are dark green. The cultivar has a moderate consumption, the whiskers are strong and thick. Peduncles are multi-pronged, formed in large quantities, located at the level of the leaves, however, under the weight of the berries, they sink to the ground. The flowers are large, perfectly pollinated.

Brilla's berries are large, have an excellent presentation, are aligned and homogeneous in the total mass, “one to one”. The shape of the fruits is elongated-conical, regular, during the beginning of fruiting, very large specimens with an irregular shape can be observed, however, the percentage of such berries is extremely small. The skin is bright red with an orange tint and a beautiful glossy shine that does not tarnish during storage and transportation of the crop. Achenes yellow, small, depressed to medium depth. The pulp is of medium density, not firm.

The strawberries taste very good. The berries are sweet, while not devoid of a pleasant unobtrusive sourness, the taste is very harmonious, the aroma is moderately expressed. The Brix value (Brix - mass fraction of sugar) is 7.7, which is a good indicator, but the variety cannot be classified as truly sweet. For example, even Albionwhich is not famous for its sweetness, the average Brix is slightly higher. It should still be noted that the amount of sugar in berries will vary greatly depending on the region of cultivation, weather conditions of the season and the level of the agricultural background. Brilla appeared on the market not so long ago, therefore, at the moment, gardeners and farmers did not have a specific point of view about her taste. If we summarize all the available information, then we can draw the following conclusion: the taste of strawberries is very good for a very early variety with high productivity. However, it is quite possible that this Italian woman will not be able to impress with any "zest", on the other hand, it all depends on the preferences of the consumer.

Brilla is recognized as a very successful novelty by Italian breeders, ideal for commercial use. The berries are very beautiful, uniform, large, and attract the eye of buyers. The crop tolerates transportation and storage well, while the pulp does not differ in excessive density. The berries are well separated from the stalk when picked, do not flow or wrinkle. Strawberries are versatile in use, good fresh, perfect for any kind of processing. Also, the fruits tolerate freezing and defrosting well. An excellent option would be to use this strawberry to decorate desserts.

The average weight of the berries is about 30-35 grams, the maximum weight reaches 50 grams. The fruits do not become smaller during the fruiting process, at the first harvest they are, of course, slightly larger, but the variety is distinguished by a high percentage of first-class berries, leveled in weight. But it is worth noting that Brilla has larger berries than another Italian early ripening novelty. Aprica, and, perhaps, is slightly inferior to her in the yield of first class fruits. Large berries will be cause for joy for hobby gardeners, while large fruit sizes are not always desirable for farmers.

The yield of the variety is very high; with a good agricultural background, this figure can exceed 1 kg of berries per plant. However, do not forget that strawberries require very competent care to achieve such truly impressive results. In fruiting, there are two main waves, the harvesting period is quite long, but not extended, the berries ripen uniformly.

The variety belongs to the very early, begins to ripen in mid-May, but do not forget that the timing of the start of harvesting can vary greatly depending on the climatic conditions of the growing region. And, since Brilla can grow in rather cold areas, the difference can be quite significant. Thus, the variety will show itself as very early in a continental climate close to its native Italian.

Plants have good vigor, take root quickly and tolerate various negative natural phenomena well. Strawberries tolerate heat and drought well and do well in cold and rainy seasons. Although, of course, unfavorable weather conditions will in any case affect the yield and taste of the berries, however, this variety will be less affected than the more susceptible varieties. Plants normally tolerate return frosts and winter well in central Russia, but at the moment there is not much specific information about the frost resistance and winter hardiness of strawberries, so it is too early to draw conclusions. And yet Brilla is considered more resilient than some of the other Italian novelties.

The variety has excellent immunity and is suitable for organic farming. Even in unfavorable seasons, plants remain resistant to major crop diseases. Of course, do not forget about preventive treatments. In agricultural technology, strawberries are not particularly demanding, they do not need abundant feeding and scrupulous care. For this variety, a simple rule applies - the more attention you pay to the plants and the higher the level of the agricultural background, the greater the productivity of the strawberries and the tastier the harvest. The variety can grow on poor and depleted soils, as well as on heavy soils. Suitable for growing in open ground, tunnels and greenhouses.

Thus, Brilla is another promising novelty of Italian breeders, promising to move towards the leaders of the early segment of the strawberry assortment. The species has not yet managed to firmly settle in the market, but has already collected a large number of admiring reviews. Serious flaws have not yet been found in it, except for the high price of planting material.
