Potato variety Aurora
Aurora, and in the common people "Krasnoglazka" is a medium-ripening potato variety (Solanum tuberosum). Bred by specialists of the Vsevolozhsk breeding station (Leningrad region, Kirovsk). Added to the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation in 2006. Zoned in nine regions of Russia: Far East, East Siberian, Middle Volga, North Caucasian, Central black earth, Volgo-Vyatka, Central, North and North-West. Authors: T.A. Kolesov, V.E. Zuev, E.V. Bryantseva, G.N. Slobodin and O.I. Zueva.
The period from germination to harvest is 70 - 90 days.
Plants are semi-erect, leaf type, tall and very tall. Leaves are large, light green in color, intermediate type; the waviness of the edge is average. Corolla of red-violet color, large size.
The tubers are medium in size, oval in shape, do not exceed 5 cm in diameter, 6 cm in length. The flesh is white. The peel is smooth, pinkish-brown in color (creamy in freshly dug tubers), red around the eyes. The eyes are small, superficial.
Aurora - multi-tuber potato; the number of tubers in the nest is up to 35 pieces, on average - 15 - 20 pieces. But the tubers are located compactly. The yield of commercial tubers is 214 - 396 c / ha, which is 67 - 102 c / ha higher than that of the Lugovskoy standard. The maximum yield is 416 c / ha, which is 241 c / ha higher than the Petersburg standard (data for the Leningrad region). The mass of a commercial tuber is 95 - 130 grams. Marketability - 80 - 93%. Keeping quality - 94%.
Aurora is characterized by resistance to the causative agent of potato cancer (pathotype 1) and the golden potato cyst nematode. The variety is moderately susceptible to late blight of tops and tubers. It adapts well to adverse weather conditions. Also, gardeners note resistance to scab. Resistance to macrosporiosis is weak. If several varieties grow on the site, then the Colorado potato beetle prefers this potato.
A variety for table use, with good and excellent taste. Boiled potatoes are crumbly. The pulp does not darken during cutting and cooking. Starch content 13.5 - 17.3%. The tubers are smooth, leveled and small in size, making them easy to peel.
Advantages of Aurora potatoes: high taste properties, resistance to diseases, high and stable yield, size-aligned tubers.
This variety works well on sandy soils, black soil is not the best soil option for it.
We have been growing these potatoes for a long time in the Northern Urals. Aurora is a frost-resistant variety. Just right to our edges. How do we plant it? Be sure to put manure in each hole, and already on it potato seeds with sprouts. After May 9, you can already plant. The harvest is rich - about nine buckets from one bucket. Potatoes are distinguished by a smooth skin and good maturation.
Sorry, what does "frost resistant" mean? What temperatures can it withstand. I live in the Middle Urals, in a mountainous area. Freezing in summer is a disaster.
In addition to field resistance to diseases, I did not find any other outstanding properties in the Aurora variety. planted for 3 years. The variety is multi-tuberous, there is a lot of small and seed fractions, the taste is fresh. Stopped growing.
