Potato variety Breeze
Breeze is a Belarusian variety of potatoes (Solanum tuberosum) that ripens in the early stages. Bred by employees of the Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for potato and horticultural production. Added to the state register of varieties of the Russian Federation in 2009, to the state register of the Republic of Belarus - in 2006. Zoned in the Central (Bryansk, Vladimir, Ryazan, Smolensk, Ivanovsk, Kaluga, Moscow and Tula regions) and North-West (Vologda, Kaliningrad, Pskov, Tver, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Leningrad and Novgorod regions) regions of Russia. Authors: B.S. Tolkachev, V.L. Makhanko, L.N. Vologdina, L.V. Nezakonova, I.I. Kolyadko.
From planting seed in the ground to harvesting, 70 - 80 days pass.
Plants are semi-erect, intermediate type, have an average height. The stem is thin with a slightly noticeable or completely absent anthocyanin coloration. Leaves of an intermediate type, large, closed, dark green in color; the edge of the leaf plate is slightly wavy. The leaf shares are medium, dull, there is no flatness. The inflorescences are medium in size. The flower is white, without anthocyanin coloration on the inside in a colored flower.
Potato Breeze has early tuberization - it quickly accumulates a marketable crop in the first half of the growing season. Responsive to an increase in the background of mineral nutrition. Suitable for cultivation on all types of soil.
Tubers are oval, large in size, with yellow flesh. The skin is yellow, medium smooth (slightly reticulate). The eyes are medium-sized, medium-deep (depth of occurrence - 1.1 - 1.3 mm). The light sprout is conical in shape. The base of the light sprout is red-violet in color, slightly pubescent.
Marketable tuber mass - 100 - 150 grams. Marketable yield is 160 - 395 c / ha, which is at the level of the standard Elizaveta variety. The maximum yield is 450 c / ha, which is 30 c / ha higher than the Sante standard (data for the Kaliningrad region). Marketability 83 - 98%. Keeping quality 97%.
Table variety with good taste. Suitable for cooking boiled potatoes and mashed potatoes, dry cleaning (or washing) and packaging. Boiled potato tasting score 7 points. The digestibility of the pulp of tubers is weak. Starch content 10 - 16%, dry matter in tubers - 20.1%, reducing sugars - 0.21%.
Potato Breeze is characterized by high resistance to leaf curling, wrinkled and banded mosaics, the causative agent of potato cancer (pathotype 1), viruses (X, S, M, Y). Medium resistant to common scab, black leg, rhizoctonia and late blight of tops and tubers. However, it is poorly resistant to golden potato cyst nematode.
These potatoes keep well due to the long physiological dormancy period of the tubers.
Advantages of the variety: high yield, resistance to mechanical damage, attractive appearance of tubers, excellent keeping quality.
After the first experimental cultivation, Breeze took root on our site. First of all, due to its yield. And, of course, the fact that you can plant it safely after harvesting early potatoes in June and in the second half of September, already put it in the cellar for storage, if you cut off the tops about two weeks before that and wait for full ripening. For our area with dry summers, the Breeze is ideal, even with a lack of watering, it produces 1.5 - 2 kg per bush with a predominance of medium and large tubers. But on the rainy summer before last, the tubers were too small due to the massive damage to the tops by late blight. The Breeze tastes great too, the puree from its light yellow pulp is just great. It does not boil into porridge, that is, borscht soup is ideal. But it is impossible to boil in a uniform for a salad - the peel exfoliates with part of the pulp.
I have been growing Breeze in my garden for a long time and I am happy with it, in any year I gave a good harvest. In our Vitebsk region, many farms grow this variety, it is mainly used for food purposes and export. Tubers are oval, regular in shape, tasty, yellowish, boiling. She herself often sold surplus in the market, and for some reason they asked him exactly. True, he is afraid of a nematode, this is a minus. If farms are checking plots for planting on a nematode, then private traders have given up on it. Therefore, in order to renew, one has to go to the elite farms every three to four years to buy seed potatoes. Of the advantages - it is well stored until planting in the cellar and does not start up large sprouts, in the summer it practically does not wither until the new harvest.
