Fritella potato variety

Fritella is a mid-season potato variety (Solanum tuberosum) for table use. Received by the specialists of the A. G. Lorkh All-Union Potato Research Institute in cooperation with Agrocenter Korenevo LLC. The varieties Effect and Innovator were used for breeding. In 2016, it was included in the state register of breeding achievements of the Russian Federation. Zoned in two regions: North-West (Vologda, Kaliningrad, Kostroma, Leningrad, Novgorod, Pskov, Tver, Yaroslavl regions) and Central black earth (Belgorod, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Tambov regions). Ideal for making French fries, which is why it got its distinctive name. It is appreciated for its high yield, large tubers, and unpretentious care.

The period from the moment of emergence of full shoots to harvest is 80-100 days.

The plant is tall, of an intermediate type. Stems are semi-erect. Leaves of medium size, intermediate type, green in color. Corollas are of medium size. The intensity of the anthocyanin coloration of their inner side is average and higher.

Fritella has a well-developed root system, in one nest, on average, 6-10 fairly large homogeneous tubers are formed. The mass of commercial potatoes ranges from 91-132 grams, however, some specimens often weigh more than 150 grams. The tubers have an elongated-oval regular shape. The peel is smooth, transparent, light beige. The cut is creamy in color. The eyes are not large, the depth is small.

Marketable yield, according to the results of state tests, amounted to 214−396 c / ha, at the level and by 51 c / ha more results Lugovskoy... The largest amount was collected in the Vologda Oblast - 535 centners of potatoes per hectare of area, which is 182 centners / ha higher than the established standard. Such indicators can be safely called impressive, our hero can compete with even the most popular mid-season varieties of not only domestic, but also foreign selection. Marketability is at a very high level - 83−98%. The keeping quality of tubers is also excellent - 92%.

Fritella has excellent taste. The tubers are well boiled, suitable for cooking any kind of food, but best suited for deep-frying and processing into chips. They will also show themselves great in boiled and baked form, they are also good for mashed potatoes. The pulp is tender, with a pleasant texture, moderately mealy and dry, the starch content in it is 15-19%. When boiled, the tubers crack, but at the same time retain their shape. The pulp does not darken when sliced and cooked, which makes the prepared dish very appetizing.

Potatoes are relatively undemanding to soil and climate, but they show the best yield in regions where they are well adapted. Plants feel better on fertile, loose soils. They respond well to feeding. The variety is unpretentious in care, it only needs standard agrotechnical measures, such as loosening the soil, hilling, preventive treatments against diseases and pests, weeding, watering and feeding. Also, one should not forget about maintaining crop rotation on the site and timely updating of seed material.

Fritella is resistant to Alternaria, Rhizoctonia, cancer. Relatively resistant to ring rot. It has medium resistance to common scab. Susceptible to golden cyst nematode. According to the All-Russian Research Institute of Phytopathology, it is moderately vulnerable to the late blight pathogen in tubers and tops. With timely preventive treatments and compliance with the timing of harvesting, the likelihood of late blight injury is extremely small.

Our hero is especially appreciated for its high yields, which are not inferior to many other popular varieties, for excellent taste, large tubers and their suitability for processing into French fries and chips. Gardeners note the uniformity of tubers by weight - from one plant it is possible to stably receive about 15 pieces with an average weight of about 100 grams. The advantages also include excellent keeping quality, a very good yield of marketable products, and unpretentious care.

Among the shortcomings, it is possible to note susceptibility to late blight, however, according to the observation of potato growers, with competent agricultural technology, plants are very rarely affected by them. Another disadvantage is vulnerability to the golden cyst nematode, but this problem can also be solved by timely preventive measures.

Fritella is a potato with great potential. It was bred not so long ago and has not yet managed to gain sufficient popularity, but we can safely say that after a very short period of time it will become a frequent occurrence on personal household plots and production areas of large agricultural firms.
