Handsome is a medium-early variety of potatoes (Solanum tuberosum) for table use, suitable for processing into dry mashed potatoes. Bred by the employees of the A. G. Lorkh All-Union Potato Research Institute. Obtained by crossing the varieties Hannibal and Peresvet. In 2009, it was added to the state register of breeding achievements of the Russian Federation. Zoned in the Central black earth region (Tambov, Lipetsk, Kursk, Oryol, Voronezh, Belgorod regions). It is appreciated for its high yield, early ripening, ability to adapt to a variety of growing conditions. Suitable for mechanized harvesting. Well suited for processing into various potato products, due to the high starch content in the pulp.
From the moment of emergence of full shoots to harvest, it takes about 80-90 days.
The plant is medium in height, of an intermediate type. Stems are semi-erect. Leaves are medium in size, intermediate type, green in color. The edges of the leaf plate are slightly wavy. The flowers are pink, the anthers are yellow. The inner side of the corolla has a medium-intensity anthocyanin coloration, the tint of blue is very weak or absent.
The root system of Krasavchik is very well developed; 6-11 rather large tubers can form on one plant. Commercial potatoes weigh 91-166 grams, however, specimens with a greater mass are often formed. The tubers are oval in shape. The peel is slightly reticulate, red in color, smooth to the touch. The pulp is creamy in color. The eyes are shallow, their depth is average and less.
