Potato variety Manifesto

Manifesto - mid-early table potato variety (Solanum tuberosum) of Belarusian selection. Bred by the specialists of RUE "Scientific and Production Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Potato and Fruit and Vegetable Growing". In 2014, it was added to the state register of plants of the Russian Federation. Approved for cultivation in three regions of Russia: North-West, Central, Volgo-Vyatka. Differs in a very high yield, excellent keeping quality, resistance to mechanical damage and many diseases. Suitable for growing both on an industrial scale and on personal backyard plots.

The time from the emergence of full shoots to harvest is 90-110 days.

Medium or tall plant, intermediate type. Potato stems are semi-erect. Leaf plate of medium size, open type, green color. A slight waviness is observed along the edges of the leaves. The flowers are red-violet. The inner side of the corolla has a medium-intensity anthocyanin coloration.

The root system of the Manifesto is quite powerful, 11-15 tubers are formed on one plant, each weighing 90-150 grams, but the weight can be much more. The tubers are oblong-oval or oval in shape. The peel is red, smooth to the touch. The pulp is light yellow in color. The eyes are small, red.

According to the results of the state tests of the variety, the marketable yield was recorded in the range of 165-408 c / ha, which is comparable to the standard Elizabeth... The best result was achieved in the Tula region - 458 centners of potatoes were harvested per hectare of area, which is 158 centners / ha higher than the standards Nevsky... According to the originator, the highest yield indicator is 737 c / ha, and this statement can be trusted, since it is supported by numerous positive reviews of gardeners not only in Belarus, but also in Russia.

The Manifesto tastes very good. The tubers have an average digestibility, are versatile in cooking, and are suitable for preparing any dishes. Especially good for frying, boiling, stuffing and baking, perfectly complement soups and salads. For mashed potatoes, our hero is also great. According to gardeners, the variety is really very tasty, given its high yield - not all highly productive varieties can boast of such a successful combination. The pulp contains 13-15.4% starch.

Potatoes show the best results on light and medium-sized soils - sandy loam and loose loam. However, even on problem soils, with proper care and competent agricultural technology, it can beat all records set by other varieties. It should also be mentioned that the Manifesto thrives in a variety of climates. As for the features of agricultural technology, the originator offers a small list of tips for growing.

  • Tubers have an average dormancy period, so it is advisable to germinate them before planting in order to improve germination and accelerate ripening. By the way, thanks to this feature, the potatoes are perfectly stored, while not sprouting or losing their marketability and taste.
  • It is better to plant seed material when the soil finally warms up to + 8-10 ° C and return frosts will be left behind.

  • When grown for consumption or sale, 48-52 thousand tubers should be planted per hectare of area, or 480-520 units per hundred square meters. If you want to get seed, you need to plant 55-58 thousand plants per hectare, or 550-580 per hundred square meters.
  • The variety responds very well to increased attention. When grown intensively, the Manifesto is capable of producing impressive record results.Provide plants with proper nutrition and watering, and do not forget about hilling, weeding, loosening the soil, preventive treatments against diseases and insect pests. The complex of these measures can have a very positive effect on the yield. It will be especially good for additional feeding, in reasonable quantities, of course.
  • The variety has an average drought resistance, so do not allow the soil to dry out too much. But it is also not worth overmoistening the soil.
  • Don't forget about crop rotation. Although our hero is resistant to many diseases, it is still better not to plant him on the site where other nightshade crops grew before him. The best predecessors of potatoes are green manures, onions, cabbage, cucumber, garlic, beets, legumes, and zucchini.
  • Replace seed material in time to avoid tubers degeneration, in which they begin to shrink and acquire bizarre shapes.

The manifesto is highly resistant to viruses, including wrinkled and banded mosaics and leaf curls, and is immune to cancer and cyst nematode, blackleg. Medium resistant to common scab and late blight in tubers and tops.

Our hero has earned a lot of positive reviews and, despite his rather young age, has become very popular. Many gardeners and large agricultural firms value it, first of all, for its very high yield, which is provided by a large number of large tubers in the nest. Also, the advantages of the variety include its excellent taste, resistance to many potato diseases, the possibility of its cultivation in different climatic latitudes.

It should be noted also the excellent presentation of tubers, their excellent keeping quality, as well as suitability for mechanized harvesting, due to resistance to damage. Thus, our hero is suitable both for cultivation in summer cottages for personal consumption, and for industrial cultivation in production areas for the purpose of sale.

Of the shortcomings, only exactingness to the nutrient and mineral composition of the soil can be distinguished, but this is quite normal for potatoes with such high yields. Manifesto is one of the most "ideal" varieties, which can equally boast of both the taste of the tubers and their quantity.
