Daryonka strawberry variety

Daryonka is an early-ripening non-repaired variety of garden strawberry (strawberry) for universal use. It was bred in the early 2000s by specialists of the Sverdlovsk SSS VSTISP FGBNU. In 2002, an application was submitted for registration of the novelty in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation, and in 2004, after 2 years of passing tests, the variety was included in it. Strawberries are approved for cultivation in four regions of the country: Central, East Siberian, West Siberian, Volgo-Vyatka. Our heroine is appreciated for excellent winter hardiness, unpretentious care, good yield, excellent taste, as well as a fairly high immunity to various diseases. Daryonka is recommended for growing in garden plots, in small-scale farms. It is especially attractive for cultivation in regions with cold climates.

The plant is medium-sized, rather powerful, erect. The mustache of a variety of medium thickness, pale red color, is formed in abundant quantities. The leaves are large, slightly concave, slightly wrinkled, pubescent, light green in color, dull. The sheet plate has a rounded shape. The petiole is of medium length, medium pubescent, the hairs are not compressed. Strawberry flowers are bisexual, large, white. Inflorescences are few-flowered, very compact. Peduncles are long, located above the level of the leaves.

Daryonka's berries are predominantly medium in size, of the correct blunt-conical shape with a neck. The skin is dark red, shiny. Achenes yellow, shallowly depressed. The flesh is red in color, firm, but not firm, with a pronounced strawberry aroma. The sepal is slightly raised upward. The taste of the variety is very good, the berries are sweet, with an elegant hint of sourness, one might say, a classic strawberry flavor. The tasting score of strawberries was 4.4 points on a five-point scale.

The berries are versatile in use, suitable for any processing, suitable for freezing, and, of course, are wonderful fresh. Thanks to their dense pulp, they perfectly tolerate transportation, and also store well. Thus, Darenka is very attractive for growing in order to sell fresh produce on the market. Of course, it cannot compete with popular commercial “giant” varieties, but in a cold climate it can even give them a head start.

The average weight of berries in the season is about 15 grams, the fruiting of strawberries is not stable, so the weight of the fruits can vary greatly. At the first harvest, the mass of berries fluctuates at the level of 25-30 grams, then gradually decreases, by the end of the season, specimens are formed with a much lower weight - about 10 grams. In the state register of plants of the Russian Federation, an average weight of 8.4 grams is indicated, however, according to gardeners, this indicator is too underestimated. With standard, but high-quality care, Daryonka sets quite large berries, but not giant ones, of course.

The yield, according to the state register, is 108 c / ha, which is a very good result, and given that an extremely small average mass of berries is indicated in the same source, it can be assumed that our heroine is capable of high yields. Of course, the indicators of 110-120 c / ha are now difficult to call high, however, they are not low either. Moreover, we can say this: in the northern regions, Daryonka with an "average" yield can surpass higher-yielding varieties. With good care, of course.

Strawberries have excellent immunity, are rarely affected by fungal diseases, are especially resistant to white spot, are slightly damaged by strawberry mites. But the main advantage of our heroine is excellent winter hardiness and frost resistance. It can be safely attributed to the list of varieties suitable for growing in the most difficult climatic conditions.Plants perfectly tolerate extremely cold winters, even during snowless periods they feel quite comfortable, and spring frosts seem to bypass Darenka, despite her early ripening. Of course, it doesn't hurt to play it safe, so it's worth taking care of shelter in the winter. And the use of covering materials in the spring will also help accelerate ripening, although our heroine, according to reviews, is one of the first to bear fruit in the northern regions.

In agricultural technology, the variety is absolutely simple, very unpretentious, does not require increased attention and the creation of special growing conditions. Of course, plants will definitely respond to all your efforts, so it is still worth giving them a little time. In general, our heroine can be safely attributed to the category of "strawberries for the lazy", and you can also confidently recommend her to a novice gardener. Of the nuances of care, only a couple of main points should be highlighted.

Daryonka tolerates dry periods quite persistently, however, they can affect the yield, so it is better to provide the plants with regular watering. The variety is not moisture-loving, so do not overdo it with irrigation. It is also important to feed strawberries in a timely manner so that they delight you with abundant and tasty harvests. One more nuance - do not forget about the rejuvenation of the plantation. Unfortunately, there is no information about the longevity of our heroine, so we can say this - you need to update the planting material as needed. It is clearly not worth neglecting this event, since every year of its life the plant reduces its productivity potential, and its immunity worsens.

Let's say a few words in conclusion. Darenka is an excellent variety, especially attractive for regions with a cold, harsh climate. In such areas, it can really become a winning option against the background of many, including foreign, varieties that are favorites of the strawberry market. And for other regions it is quite good, it has quite decent productivity characteristics and good taste. And its great advantage is its simplicity in care. Of course, it cannot compete with the popular "giants" of the assortment of varieties of strawberries, but it is quite worthy of a place on your site.
