Fairy strawberry variety

Fairy is a non-repairable mid-season variety of garden strawberries (strawberries) for universal use. It was bred in the late 70s by specialists of the Kuibyshev Zonal Experimental Gardening Station. The originator is the State Budgetary Institution of the Samara Region Research Institute of Horticulture and Medicinal Plants "Zhigulevskiye Sady". To obtain, the varieties Scarlet Sail and Nadezhda were crossed. In 1988, 8 years after filing an application for admission and passing state tests, the "novelty" was included in the state register of breeding achievements of the Russian Federation. The fairy is allowed to grow in three regions of the country: Volgo-Vyatka, West Siberian, East Siberian.

The plant is medium-sized, erect, slightly spreading. Whiskers are pale red in color, formed in medium quantities. The flowers are bisexual, white. Semi-sprawling inflorescences, consisting of a large number of flowers. Peduncles are thick, located at leaf level or below. The berries of the variety are rather large, round or truncated-conical in shape, without a neck. The skin is dark red, shiny. The flesh of strawberries is red, firm, but not firm, juicy, aromatic.

Taste qualities are excellent, berries of traditional sweet and sour taste with a hint of wild strawberry, with a very pleasant texture. The fruits are versatile in use, very good fresh, suitable for any kind of processing and freezing. The transportability and keeping quality of berries is at a high level, so the Fairy is quite suitable for growing commercially, especially in regions with cold climates.

The average weight of strawberries at the first harvest is about 25-30 grams, the maximum is up to 35 grams. In the season, the average weight of berries is much less - 10 grams. The fact is that the variety has a rather stretched fruiting, moreover, unstable, the berries become smaller by the end of the season, moreover, significantly, with the last harvest on the bushes, a frank trifle is already ripening. But despite this nuance, the yield of our heroine is quite high - more than 500 grams of berries per plant, and with intensive agricultural technology, even more than 1 kg, but not more than 1.5 kg per bush.

The fairy compares favorably with many popular novelties of breeding with its excellent immunity. It is resistant to a complex of fungal diseases of the root system, foliage and fruits. However, this does not mean that strawberries are completely invulnerable, this probably does not happen. Do not forget about timely preventive treatments to avoid surprises.

The variety has excellent winter hardiness and drought resistance, is not particularly picky about soils, therefore it can be grown in almost all regions of Russia and beyond. It is especially attractive for residents of cold areas, since in such harsh conditions, strawberries are perfectly zoned and can show better results than high-yielding "overseas" varieties. With competent and intensive care, of course.

In agricultural technology, the Fairy is absolutely standard and unpretentious, she will forgive you any mistakes, but she is quite suitable for intensive cultivation. Thus, the better you take care of the plants, the more harvest they will repay you. The complex of care includes the most basic measures - watering, fertilizing, loosening the soil, weeding weeds, preventive treatments against pests and diseases, as well as timely rejuvenation of the plantation.

Fairy is an excellent, time-tested and experienced variety that can provide a large and tasty harvest even in the most challenging climatic conditions. Of course, he cannot compete with modern novelties in strawberry breeding, however, at his summer cottage he will show himself perfectly and will not leave the gardener indifferent.
