Strawberry variety Furor

Furor is a remontant variety of garden strawberry (strawberry) for universal use. It was bred by specialists from the Dutch company Flevoplant B.V. as part of the Flevo Berry strawberry farming program. The novelty appeared on the market quite recently, about three years ago. In a short period of its existence, it has already managed to collect many positive, and sometimes admiring reviews. Furor was assigned the characteristic "one of the most promising varieties of neutral daylight hours with great potential." Indeed, our hero became famous as a high-yielding, large-fruited, and, moreover, possessing excellent taste. The variety is suitable for growing both in a summer cottage and in production areas, is actively used for commercial purposes abroad, it is also possible to cultivate in an ampelous version and in hydroponics.

Plants are quite compact, have high growth vigor, quickly build up green mass and actively bear fruit almost without interruption. The formation is scarce. The leaves are large, wrinkled, rounded-oval, with wide denticles at the edges. The leaf lobes are widely diluted. The flowers of the variety are bisexual, white. Strawberry flower stalks are long, multi-primordial, laid on the ground under the weight of the harvest.

Furora fruits are rather large, regular elongated-conical shape, with a small neck or without it, very homogeneous in the total mass, only by the end of the season the uniformity of shapes and sizes may deteriorate slightly. The skin of the berry is strong, bright red, shiny. At the stage of technical ripeness, the seedless zone near the sepal is colored white; when fully ripe, the entire fruit is evenly poured red. Achenes are small, submerged to medium depth. The pulp is bright red, dense, but not firm, without crunch when biting, without voids, very juicy, fragrant.

Furora has very good taste qualities, compared to many other commercial remontants, he looks very worthy. The taste is harmonious, sweet, with a pleasant hint of sourness. One of the main advantages of the variety is that the berries remain sweet even during problem periods with abundant rainfall, and also do not lose sugar content by the end of the season, which is quite uncharacteristic for remontant strawberries, especially when grown in cool regions in the open field. But it should be said that the taste is highly dependent on the literacy of agricultural technology, in particular on timely and abundant feeding. Disputes over the taste of berries all the time excite forums, but often negative reviews are left by those who did not take good care of their plantings. The variety is commercial, and even of an intensive type, so you should not expect miracles from it with careless care.

The fruits are versatile in use, excellent for processing, freezing, perfectly decorate desserts and, of course, will become an excellent delicacy in their natural form. They also tolerate transportation very well, look very impressive and do not lose their marketability and taste for a long time, therefore Furor fully justifies its “commercial” rank and can definitely be recommended for growing in order to sell fresh products to the market.

The average weight of berries in the season is 30-40 grams, sometimes larger specimens are observed, up to 50 grams. Fruiting is stable and almost continuous, the plant yields from May to October, a two-week break is observed only after the first wave. By the way, this strawberry is considered one of the earliest among remontant varieties; ripening begins in mid-late May, depending on the climatic conditions of the region. The yield declared by the originator is 1.8 kg per bush. This, of course, is not 3 kg per plant, as in Albion and his “descendants”, but, to be honest, 3 kg is an unattainable indicator without ideal agricultural technology, but 1.5-1.8 kg of berries from the Furora bush is quite realistic, and many farmers confirm this.

The variety is resistant to various fungal diseases of the root system, foliage and fruits, in particular to powdery mildew, gray rot. Rarely damaged by thrips, although treatments are highly desirable. In general, despite a fairly good immunity, strawberries still need high-quality disease prevention, especially if they are grown commercially with the hope of maximum productivity. Furora's winter hardiness is quite decent in comparison with many Dutch "sissies", but shelter still does not hurt, but in cold regions it is extremely necessary, the same applies to the spring period, when return frosts rage. But our hero can safely boast of heat resistance - he feels great in the hottest seasons, continues to give stable good yields, the berries are not baked in the sun. For the southern regions with hot summers, this strawberry can be definitely recommended, since in such areas it looks more advantageous against the background of other remontants.

We will not talk a lot about agricultural technology, since the principles of caring for Furor are pretty standard. A variety of intensive type, therefore, one simple rule is relevant for its cultivation - the better you take care of it and the better you feed it, the more return you should expect. You shouldn't complain about the low yield or the "foamy" taste of the berries if the plants do not receive the necessary nutrition and care. Strawberries do not require something supernatural, they only need timely and high-quality performance of the most standard agrotechnical measures. From the nuances - plants do not like excessive thickening, although they can be grown using compacted technology, and it is also better to install a drip irrigation system, since periods of drought will have a very bad effect on yields.

Let's summarize. Furor is a very ambitious novelty that can interest both a simple summer resident and a farmer-entrepreneur. Currently, the variety is still in the testing stage, so it is impossible to say with confidence whether it will take a leading position in the strawberry market. But those who have already tested it on their site were very pleased, but there are also negative reviews, of course. In a word, this variety deserves your attention, so try to grow it yourself and then draw your final conclusions. Just be careful when buying seedlings, as there is a high probability of falsification of seedlings.

Of course, the fact that you can extend the use of fresh strawberries until autumn is good, but on the other hand, remontants' berries are not at all pleasing with either taste or aroma. I have tried many varieties on my site, but so far none have been able to satisfy me - this one also pleased me a little: the yield is not bad, the size of the berries is good, there is practically no aroma, and the taste ... yes, it is, but it is incomparable with the berries of varieties of normal fruiting ( if you close your eyes and let the berry taste, it seems to me that few people recognize strawberries in it). I will not grow on my site.

Many commercial modern varieties are aimed at long-term storage - and therefore they are first colored, and then ripened. We get a brightly colored unripe and tasteless berry that will easily lie in the refrigerator for a long time and even smell - at home it must be left for another 2-3 days and then you can get the real taste of the berry. This is to the previous review of the tasteless renovators.Very tasty from Evi-s delight, Mara de Bois, Elizabeth 2, Favori, Verity grown by me. And Furor turned out to be there, although she did not expect it - it was heavily advertised. The bush is really powerful and fruitful. I did not winter, but I am far from the southern territories)).
Well, all of them do not have time to give the second, the largest, harvest in our neighborhood - the frost beats right on the powerful brushes. So remontants are either for reliable shelters or for a long season.
