Bohemia strawberry variety
Bohemia is a late-ripening non-repaired variety of garden strawberries (strawberries) for universal use. It was obtained in the early 2000s at the All-Russian Institute of Selection and Technology for Horticulture and Nursery. The author is Galina Fedorovna Govorova. For breeding, the varieties Luch VIR and G. 56 were crossed. In 2008, 4 years after filing an application for registration, the novelty was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation with admission to cultivation in the Central region of the country (Ryazan, Moscow, Smolensk, Bryansk, Ivanovo, Kaluga, Vladimir, Tula regions). Bohemia is valued for its large fruit size, good yield, excellent taste, excellent immunity to diseases and pests, as well as exceptional "vitality". In the State Register of Plants of the Russian Federation, it is indicated that this strawberry shows partial remontability, however, gardeners did not notice such a feature. The variety feels great in a wide variety of climatic conditions, therefore it is suitable for growing almost throughout the territory of Russia.
The plant is powerful, erect. Bohemia's mustache is thick, green in color, formed in small quantities. The leaves are large, convex, medium-wrinkled, with wide denticles at the edges. The leaf plate is green in color with a glossy sheen, the upper leaves are slightly lighter than the lower ones. The middle leaf lobe has a rounded oval shape. The petiole is thick, the stipules are colored green. The flowers are bisexual, white, collected in compact inflorescences. Peduncles are powerful, long and thick, multi-primordial, located below the level of the leaves, under the weight of the crop are laid on the ground. The peduncles of the variety are rather thick and long.
Berries of Bohemia are large, broadly conical in shape, without a neck, comb-shaped and doubled ones can often be observed. The skin is dark red, shiny. With incomplete ripening, the tip of the fruit has a greenish color; in the largest specimens it can be forked. Achenes are yellow, numerous, shallowly submerged. The pulp is dark red, dense, juicy, with a bright strawberry aroma. Strawberry has a very good taste, sweet, truly dessert, tasting score - 4.5 points. The pulp contains: 9.9% sugar, 0.9% acid, 99.8 mg% vitamin C. Berries are universal in use, suitable for any processing, are excellent fresh. The fruits perfectly tolerate transportation and rather long storage, which makes our heroine suitable for growing in order to sell fresh products to the market.
The variety is distinguished by really large berries, but not giant ones, as, for example, in Chamory Turusi... At the first collection, specimens weighing about 50 grams can be observed, then the weight of the berries gradually decreases, reaching 30-40 grams, and sometimes less. In the State Register of Plants of the Russian Federation, the following average weight of berries is indicated - from 16 to 24 grams. Fruiting in Bohemia is rather unstable, the berries become smaller by the end of the season, which, in principle, is very typical for large-fruited varieties. The average strawberry yield over the years of state variety trials was recorded at around 106.5 c / ha. At present, such an indicator cannot be called high, but it is very worthy. It is possible to get about 3.5 kg of berries from one square meter of area.
Ripening begins around mid-July, in hot regions it can start earlier. The variety boasts very good winter hardiness, thrives in cold areas and does not require shelter. Bohemia also has excellent drought resistance, which makes it possible to grow it in the southern regions. Another advantage of this strawberry is its excellent immunity. Over the years of state tests, it was noted that it is damaged by diseases and pests less often than other varieties, and reviews of gardeners confirm this.
In agricultural technology, our heroine is quite simple, very unpretentious and does not require special attention to herself. Of the nuances, only a couple of points can be distinguished.Firstly, it is advisable to plant the bushes more freely, at a distance of at least 35-40 cm from each other, if possible, you can plant it with an interval of 50 cm.Secondly, do not forget about feeding and timely watering, these two factors greatly affect the taste berries. Otherwise, the plants will not require any special efforts from you, this variety can even be attributed to the symbolic group "strawberries for the lazy".
Bohemia is an excellent domestic variety, perfectly zoned to the conditions of most regions of Russia. It is quite capable of performing better than the "overseas" high-yielding favorites of the strawberry market, especially in areas with problematic climates. Of the minuses - unstable fruiting, in which the berries become smaller, and the inhomogeneous shape of the fruits. In all other qualities, our heroine is very good and clearly deserves a place on your site.
Variety "Bohemia", the variety was bred by Galina Fedorovna Govorova (professor, Timiryazev University).
They planted it at the end of May, at the beginning of August the bush grew and gave the first harvest, there are not many berries and they are average, unfortunately the weather this year did not allow any strawberries to be tasted (constant rains and cold), berries rot on all varieties, so do not evaluate can. But at the same time, I can say that the bush grows very quickly and gives a mustache, which already has buds. The variety is remontant, after the first berries it blooms again, I will wait for the harvest by September.
