Carmen strawberry variety

Carmen is a non-repairable variety of garden strawberries (strawberries) of medium ripening, universal use. It was bred in the Czech Republic, in Russia it began to officially spread since 2001. Our heroine is very fond of gardeners and farmers for excellent yield, large-fruited, excellent taste. The variety is recommended for growing in horticultural plots, it is also possible to cultivate for commercial purposes in a small volume.

The plant is tall, spreading, multi-track. The formation is quite abundant. The leaves are large, very beautiful, with distinct venation, slightly corrugated, with large denticles at the edges, dark green in color with a glossy sheen. The flowers are large, white, bisexual. Strawberry flower stalks are tall, strong and powerful, located at the level of leaves or below, under the weight of the harvest they lie on the ground.

Carmen's berries are large and very large, blunt-conical in shape, without a neck, slightly flattened, comb-shaped specimens can often be observed, especially at the first harvest. The skin is dark red, shiny, when fully ripe it acquires a maroon hue. Achenes yellow, numerous, shallowly depressed. The pulp is dark red, moderately firm, fleshy, very juicy, aromatic.

The variety has excellent taste. Some even call it "gourmet strawberries." The palate is exquisite, ideally balanced - the berries are very sweet, but not without a subtle, subtle sourness, with a very multifaceted aftertaste. Everyone will be able to catch some special notes in the taste of Carmen, from fruity to caramel and honey. And the wonderful aroma of wild strawberries will certainly not leave gourmets indifferent.

The berries are versatile in use, great fresh, they are also perfect for any processing, and are also suitable for freezing. The fruits tolerate transportation over short distances in a small-volume container well, but long-term storage and transportation over long distances may no longer survive - the presentation will deteriorate, and the taste may suffer. Thus, the variety is ideal for garden use, but can also be grown on small scale farms to sell fresh produce at the local market.

Carmen really boasts a large fruit size, at the first harvest, the fruits can weigh more than 50 grams, on average, the mass of strawberries ranges from 30-35 grams. Fruiting is rather unstable, by the end of the season, the weight of the fruit decreases to about 20 grams, however, the originators note a consistently high yield level throughout the entire fruiting period. The productivity of our heroine is decent, about 1 kg of berries can be harvested from one bush.

The variety has a very good immunity to diseases and pests, but it has one big caveat - the fruits tend to be affected by gray rot, especially in conditions of high humidity. On the other hand, if all the necessary measures are taken to protect the berries from this disease, the harvest will suffer slightly even in rainy seasons. Carmen's winter hardiness and drought resistance are also good, it shows itself well both in the southern hot regions and in the colder ones, it bears fruit stably and efficiently.

In agricultural technology, strawberries are quite simple, they do not require increased attention to themselves, but they will respond very well to all your efforts. Particular emphasis should be placed on feeding - the variety is large-fruited, so it needs sufficient nutrition to be able to "feed" the large numerous berries. Also, do not forget to remove the mustache in time, our heroine forms them in abundant quantities, and this nuance has a strong effect on the yield - the plant gives all its strength to the formation to the detriment of the harvest.

Carmen is a great variety that has received many accolades. Its main advantage is its excellent taste. Also, gardeners really like the large-fruited variety and its unpretentiousness. Of the minuses, one can single out abundant formation and susceptibility of fruits to gray rot, however, with competent agricultural technology, these nuances will not cause big problems. These strawberries have proven themselves to be reliable and stable, and they clearly won't disappoint you.
