Shoots are friendly. In technical ripeness, the root crop protrudes slightly above the surface of the earth. To get beautiful roots, deep plowing of the soil is required.
Variety Nantskaya 4 was reassigned for processing, fresh consumption and winter storage. Perfect for dietary and baby food, because contains a large amount of vitamins.
The advantages of carrots Nantes 4 include: high taste, excellent keeping quality and productivity, resistance to flowering.
On my site, I always grow several varieties of carrots of different qualities. Nantes is also one of them. It is tasty, sweet, juicy, beautifully shaped, bright in color. But I try to use it first. In the fall, we make salads, mainly I use it for vegetable preparations for the winter, I grind part of the crop on a grater and send it to storage in the freezer, we make juices. Either our cellar is too humid, or Nantes is the most delicate among my varieties, but after the New Year it begins to rot and, if you store it until spring, you get a lot of waste.
Please tell me which varieties are stable, what you can recommend, thank you!
The variety is not particularly important. The secret is that in plastic vegetable boxes we sprinkle carrots with sawdust in layers. And into the cellar. Until the new harvest, it is stored as soon as from the garden. No loss at all.
We have been planting Nantes 4 for 5 years in the fall. If September is rainy, then at the end, and if sunny, dry, then in the middle. Believe me, next year, at the end of April, your garden with planted carrots will delight the eye! We start eating in July. Children love this carrot because it is so sweet!
I also grow Nantes carrots in my garden. Carrots are void-free and good in salads. I sow in two stages in April and May. Digging up the April one after the potatoes. I don’t wait until late autumn, when she withers in the ground. And the May one after the first frost. I store it in a bag in the cellar. Stands until spring, spoiled comes across, but extremely rarely.
I have been using this carrot for over seven years now. The best results were shown when sowing seeds in soil with an admixture of sand (since the soil in the area is black soil with an admixture of clay, in order to facilitate it, sand was added). With this method of planting, the roots were homogeneous, juicy, without cracks and not clumsy. The taste is sweet, without bitterness. Stores well in the basement using a mixture of dry sand and ash.
One of the best varieties for the Black Earth Region. We have been planting for a long time. Never let you down. Taste is very good, made juices for kids. We also sow with sand - 1 hour of seeds for 15 parts of sand - using a plastic bottle with a hole in the lid. We run along the furrow, periodically shaking the sand, and the bottle - neck down. We bury the best roots in late autumn on seeds and insulate them. The seeds are always your own.
To be honest, I don't grow carrots myself (there is no suitable place on the site). But my father succeeded in this. Carrots are planted for commercial purposes - the Nantes variety is just right for these purposes. In the process of growing I take a direct part and as a result - a huge amount of carrots in my bins (more than 100 kg this year). What am I doing with her? This variety is poorly stored, so we grind it on a combine and in the freezer. And most importantly, this year I discovered carrot jam and candied fruit. I recommend!
I have been planting her for the fourth year. Since the first harvest made me very happy. I tried different varieties, but this one never fails. Carrots come with large specimens and you do not need to thin them out. Almost all fruits are even, and this is the main factor for me. I do not like to suffer with octopuses. 2017 in the Udmurt Republic was cold and abundant in the rains. Many threw away carrots because of rot, while mine grew in the quality I was used to. All root vegetables are orange and without signs of rot. I put her on an elevated row. The only problem is poor storage. You have to process and freeze.
I would recommend this carrot for growing in heavy soils (where other varieties do not grow well).
On my site, the soil is loam, and carrots like lighter soils. Therefore, my carrot harvest has always been very poor. I decided to make a "last try" and then forever tie up with her landing. I bought the seeds of the first carrot I came across. It was Nantes 4.
And the first time I got a normal harvest. The roots were juicy, small (about 12 cm), but even, and not gnarled or forked as usual.
And I realized that varieties of carrots that are too long and large are not suitable for heavy soils, since it is difficult for them to germinate in such soil. And the small and rounded "Nantes 4" grows in its upper layers, so you can get a good harvest on loams and even on clay soils.
Unfortunately, I don’t know how it is stored, since I don’t grow it for these purposes.
One grandmother advised me this variety in the store: “Buy you won't regret it! This is a classic, and a classic is eternal. " And for more than 25 years now I have been growing Nantes as the main variety, although I constantly experiment with others.
Nantes "breaks through" my loam, does not crack at the same time and does not come out to look at the neighboring beds.
And one more important quality. Not many varieties are used after being pulled. And this one has fragrant tops that go well with spring salads and soups, and young root vegetables are so crispy and juicy!
To get a good harvest, I recommend everyone to add ash to the sowing paths.
Nantes 4 is my favorite carrot variety. I used to grow Nandrin, but some of the carrots broke when they were dug up, since the root crop is very long. The soil is heavy, you can't drive a shovel. And Nantes is just a normal length, it is convenient to dig. But this is not the main thing - it is tasty and well kept, the main thing is to be able to.I dry the sand well, if it is wet, it will quickly rot. And I put it in layers in a wooden box, treated with lime mortar on all sides. Until spring as fresh. And you also need to process the walls with lime to kill the fungus, it also spoils vegetables. This should be done every summer.
I'll tell you how I grow carrots of Nantes 4. In the Volga region, the summer is hot, so I sow it twice: in April and June. We eat April oil throughout the summer, add it to winter preparations; planted in June, goes into storage. I was convinced from my own experience that Nantes, sown later, retains its presentation until next summer - it does not rot, does not flab, unlike the April planting. We put it in wooden boxes, sprinkle it with sawdust and lower it into the cellar. I will also add that when growing, I must thin out the carrots, I make a bed next to the onions, since the smell of onions scares off pests.
