Cucumber variety Emerald Placer (F1)

Continuing your acquaintance with the cucumber novelties, you cannot ignore the hybrid called the Emerald Placer. Agrofirma Poisk LLC announced its creation in 2013. After variety trials, in 2015, the variety was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia. Suitable for cultivation in all regions of the country. Recommended for growing in film greenhouses and under film shelters in personal subsidiary plots. Cucumber belongs to hybrid crops, therefore it is marked with F1. Despite its novelty, this variety has already attracted the interest of many vegetable growers due to its excellent characteristics.

Description

Plant of an indeterminate type that does not restrict growth at a height of 2 meters. It is characterized by weak branching and the formation of determinant lateral shoots limited in growth. The foliage is good. Leaves are healthy, rich green, medium-sized, long-petiolized, whole, with a slightly wrinkled, rough surface, with a deep cut at the base and a sharp, slightly drawn (especially in young leaves) top. The flowering type of the Emerald Placer is female. The flowering of the cucumber is abundant, at the node the female flowers are formed in bunches, usually 2-3 pieces, but sometimes more. The first flowers may appear already in the first or second node. Fruits are short, cylindrical, 10 - 12 cm long, 3.5 - 4 cm in diameter. The ribbing is not expressed, the surface is covered with large tubercles, but they are not often located. The color is bright, emerald green, as evidenced by the name. Pubescence is white. The State Register notes the taste as good. The taste is sweetish, the pulp is tender, moderately dense, crunchy, does not even contain a hint of bitterness. The seeds are in the stage of milky ripeness, so they are practically not felt during use. Average weight 110 - 130 grams.

Variety characteristics

  • By planting the Emerald Placer hybrid, the grower can expect to get an early harvest. From the moment of emergence of full shoots to the beginning of fruiting, it takes only 38 to 42 days;
  • the fruiting period of the cucumber is quite long, while the gardener removes the greens in the lower nodes, flowering and the formation of new ovaries continue in the upper leaf axils. Hence the high yield of the variety. According to the State Register, 12.8 kg per 1 square meter can be collected under film shelters;
  • the fact that our hero belongs to hybrids already means his high immunity and resistance to the main diseases of pumpkin seeds. Our hero perfectly resists powdery mildew and downy mildew, as well as cladosporiosis (or brown olive spot);
  • the main trump card of the Emerald Placer is its belonging to the parthenocarpic rocks. This amazing ability of the plant to set fruit without the help of pollinating insects is a major criterion not only when choosing varieties for a greenhouse. In the open field under unfavorable weather conditions, bee-pollinated varieties may not set a crop, since insects do not pollinate plants in bad weather;
  • you will have to harvest cucumbers often, every day or two;
  • the variety tolerates a lack of light well, and where conventional varieties can reduce yields due to this factor, the Emerald Placer bears excellent fruit. Thanks to this feature, in combination with parthenocarp, the culture can be grown at home - on a balcony or loggia;
  • evenness and bright color of the fruits gives them a high presentation;
  • transportability is beyond praise. The crop is well tolerated by long haulage.Keeping quality, subject to storage rules, is excellent; cucumbers do not turn yellow during storage;
  • the way of using the crop is universal. Cucumbers go well with other early vegetables in vitamin salads, you can enjoy them in their natural form, because the crispy, aromatic pulp has a pretty good taste. Also, the fruits are used for pickling and canning.

Agrotechnics

The variety is recommended to be grown in seedlings. It is best to calculate the time for sowing seeds for seedlings yourself, be sure to take into account the peculiarities of the climate. Three or four week old seedlings can be transplanted indoors in mid or late May. In open ground, seedlings of the Emerald Placer can be planted 2 - 3 weeks later. In order for the plant to develop well, it needs warmth, so try to allocate well-lit areas under the beds. But in the south, when grown in the open air, it is still better to plant cucumbers in a place where light partial shade saves from the hot sun during the midday period. Planting pattern - 30 - 40 cm between bushes, 70 cm width between rows. After transplanting, each plant must be tied to a trellis. The species is very fond of watering. But it is worth recalling that only warm water should be used for humidification. As top dressing, universal balanced fertilizers are used, containing trace elements necessary for growth and fruiting. When grown in a greenhouse, the moisture level should be controlled. To do this, use airing, but only from the leeward side, and loosening the soil after the next watering.

Many vegetable growers are just beginning to get acquainted with the Emerald Scattering. But those who have already grown the hybrid have an excellent opinion of it. Productivity will not fail either outdoors or indoors. Immunity is high, so the number of chemical treatments can be minimized. In addition, the variety can be safely grown on the balcony, although at home you will have to control the growth of the main stem. Some growers who cultivate cucumbers for sale have already tried the hybrid in commercial cultivation and are also pleased with the results. There were no obvious disadvantages of the variety. The only inconvenience is the impossibility of self-collecting seeds. Therefore, you will have to purchase seed material regularly.
