Cucumber variety Monolith (F1)
A subsidiary of Bayer Chemical and Pharmaceutical Corporation, Nunhems, is known for adapting vegetable seeds to the climate in which they will be grown. For example, the cucumber Monolith created by the company's breeders, entered in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia in 2013, is approved for cultivation in the Lower Volga region (Astrakhan, Volgograd, Saratov regions and the Republic of Kalmykia) and is fully zoned for the local climate. Therefore, in this region, the crop is recommended to be grown outdoors. The variety is also notable for the fact that it allows you to get gherkins and pickles. Suitable for commercial production. It is a hybrid, therefore it is labeled F1.
Description
The plant is indeterminate, of medium vigor. Moderate leafiness. The type of shrub is open, which makes care and harvesting easy and affordable. Leaves of medium size, petiolar, alternate, green to dark green plate color, slightly wrinkled surface. The flowering type of the cucumber is female. In each leaf node of the Monolith, 2 - 3 female flowers are formed.
The fruits of the variety are short, cylindrical, straight, uniform. The skin is thin and elastic, colored green or dark green with short light stripes. The surface is covered with small tubercles, the pubescence is light, dense. The pulp is quite dense, but tender, juicy. A good indicator is the complete absence of voids and bitterness. The taste is good. The seeds are in an undeveloped state. Cucumber mass 74 - 104 grams. Length 10 - 12 cm, diameter about 4 cm. The ratio of length to diameter is optimal and is 3.1: 1.0.
Characteristics
- Hybrid Monolith boasts an early ripening of the crop. The period from the emergence of full shoots to the beginning of fruiting is short - only 38 - 40 days. But for the average gardener, early production means the cucumber season can end quickly. Therefore, experienced vegetable growers recommend sowing seeds several times, maintaining an interval of 7 to 10 days. This allows the use of the cucumber in extended circulation;
- The marketable yield of the variety, according to the State Register, is 338 - 347 c / ha, which is 146 c / ha higher than that of the Puccini standard (F1). High productivity is maintained even when grown for pickles and gherkins of the first group. High-quality and stable yield does not fail throughout the cultivation season;
- our hero has a high parthenocarp. This makes it independent of neither weather conditions nor the method of cultivation. In open and closed ground, the plant is able to show a high level of fruiting;
- immunity is quite strong. There is a high resistance to brown spot and powdery mildew. Medium resistance to cucumber mosaic virus. Even in the case of fungal disease, the cucumber shows a fairly quick recovery;
- the adaptability of the Monolith to changes in weather conditions in the growing region is excellent. Plants quickly and massively regenerate after possible extreme stress conditions. The variety tolerates short periods of drought and high temperatures;
- transportability and keeping quality at a very high level. Long-term transportation will not affect the appearance of zelents, and compliance with storage standards will not allow you to lose taste;
- the way of use is universal. The fruits are used fresh, salads are prepared from them, pickled and canned. Cucumbers, even after heat treatment, do not lose crunchiness.
Agrotechnics
It is recommended to grow the variety in a seedling way, this will speed up the harvesting process by almost a week, in contrast to direct sowing in the ground. Growing seedlings of the Monolith is carried out, observing the standard regimes of temperatures, watering and feeding. The age of the seedling ready for transplantation is about 22 days, at which time the plant must have at least 3 true leaves. A transplant into open ground is carried out as soon as daytime temperatures are set at around 15 ° C, and night temperatures drop at least 8 ° C.For reliability, for the first time, a film shelter can be installed above the bed. It is advisable to allocate a place for a garden with cucumbers well-lit, with loose and nutritious soil. After transplanting, the plant must be tied to a support. Care is standard for the culture - timely watering, top dressing, preventive treatments against diseases and pests, weeding and loosening.
The monolith is versatile, it can be grown not only by ordinary gardeners, but also by farmers involved in the production and sale of vegetables. The hybrid is valued for its early maturity, which allows it to be harvested more than once per season. The plant can also be cultivated in greenhouses, since our hero has a high degree of parthenocarp. Good yields, excellent taste and versatility of using cucumbers are another reason to pay attention to the variety. The variety did not show any particular flaws during cultivation, it is difficult to care unless the need to tie up the plant. The main disadvantage of the culture is the inability to independently collect seeds. Therefore, you will have to contact the distributors for seed material, the main thing is to find a reliable supplier who does not sin oversorting.
