Cucumber variety Picnic (F1)

Bouquet-flowering cucumber varieties are very attractive due to their unusually high yield. One of these varieties of domestic selection has been among the top five most popular for the past few years. It's about the Picnic cucumber. An application for its registration was filed in 2002 by LLC "Agrofirma Gavrish" and LLC "Scientific Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding". In 2003, the novelty was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia and received admission in the Central, North-West, North, Central Black Earth, Volgo-Vyatka, Middle Volga and North Caucasian regions. Recommended for growing under film shelters in garden plots, in personal and small farms. But in regions with a warm climate, the crop can be grown outdoors. It is also popular among vegetable growers in Moldova and Ukraine. Our hero is a hybrid, so he is always labeled F1.

Description

Plant of indeterminate type, vigorous, 2.0 - 2.5 meters high. Average branching, strong foliage. The stem is ribbed, the internodes are short. Leaves are medium in size, green in color, smooth, angular-cordate, with an irregularly serrate edge. The flowering type is female. In each leaf node of the variety, 3 or more fruits are tied (a bunch can consist of 8 - 10 ovaries). More than 10 bouquets can form on the main stem of the Picnic at the same time. But the cucumbers in each of them ripen in turn, although in general, the return is very friendly.

Zelentsy are small, gherkin type, cylindrical, even. The skin is elastic, tender, juicy green (the color is darker at the stalk), with light stripes about 1/3 of the length. The surface is covered with medium-sized tubercles, the pubescence is white. The pulp is crispy, refreshing, tender and juicy, without voids. There is no bitterness. Cucumber aroma, pronounced. The taste is excellent, which is really confirmed by many gardeners. Fruit length 10 - 12 cm, diameter 3.5 - 4.0 cm. The ratio of length to diameter is almost ideal. The weight of a cucumber is 90 - 100 grams. The commercial qualities of zelenets are excellent.

Variety characteristics

  • The picnic belongs to early maturing crops. It enters the fruiting period 42 or 45 days after the emergence of full shoots. In unfavorable weather conditions, this process can take up to 48 days. Due to the fast growing season, the plant can be successfully used in the second rotation;
  • the yield of marketable fruits, according to the State Register, is 10.9 - 11.7 kg per 1 square meter. Other sources give data on 7.0 - 8.0 kg per bush. Gardeners speak positively about the overall yield of the crop, calling it excellent;
  • the picking period for cucumbers lasts from June to August;
  • the ability of a hybrid to produce a high level of fruiting would not have been possible without strong immunity. The plant perfectly resists powdery mildew and cladosporium;
  • The picnic has a high degree of parthenocarp. For abundant fruiting, the variety does not need the help of pollinating insects;
  • cucumbers do not outgrow, do not barrel. But it is advisable to remove them in time so that the rest of the fruits have the opportunity for rapid ripening;
  • the transportability of the crop is at a high level. Keeping quality will also not fail, subject to storage standards;
  • the way of use is universal. Fragrant and delicious cucumbers are the perfect salad ingredient. The size and consistency of the pulp make it one of the most suitable varieties for canning and pickling.

Agrotechnics

The picnic is recommended to be planted with seedlings.For this, the seeds are sown in mid or late April. Seedlings ready for transplanting should have at least three true leaves. The seedlings are planted in the ground in May. The planting pattern is the same as for all indents, the main thing is not to create thickening. Usually, up to 3 plants are placed on one square meter. After transplanting, the bush is tied to a trellis. The plant is formed into one trunk, removing the growing lateral shoots. Be sure to control watering (the soil should not dry out, but the cucumber will not tolerate waterlogging) and fertilization. Nutrition is perhaps one of the main requirements of a hybrid. With its lack, the plant will begin to shed part of the ovary to allow the remaining greens to ripen. When grown outdoors, some growers do not tie up the bush, but allow the stem to travel freely along the ground. True, in this case, a layer of mulch must be placed under the stem.

Most gardeners consider the Picnic hybrid very promising, and, having grown it once, do not abandon it in the future. The crop is fruitful, subject to agricultural technology, all the ovaries in a bouquet are capable of ripening. The good immunity of the variety allows you to reduce the number of treatments against diseases, thereby increasing the environmental friendliness of the crop. Consumers appreciated the excellent taste, and housewives are happy to use the crop for various preservation. Over the years of cultivation, there were no complaints about our hero. But the cucumber still has a big minus - the seeds will have to be bought annually.

Cool cucumbers. Great for pickling and in salad. I put them in a greenhouse and form a bush, removing all the stepsons. It seems to me that it really grows more cucumbers and the vines do not get confused underfoot. Cucumbers are very tasty and fleshy, they do not require special care.
