Cucumber variety Spino (F1)

Among the cucumber varieties suitable for growing in the first and second turns of greenhouse, there is a promising novelty called Spino from Syngenta Seeds B.V. Dutch breeders filed an application for its registration in 2013. After 2 years, the variety was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia, having received admission in all regions of the country. Cucumber shows the best results in film greenhouses and under film shelters, it is recommended for personal subsidiary plots. Suitable for very early planting in heated greenhouses. It is a hybrid, therefore it is labeled F1.

Description

The plant is indeterminate, generative type of development. The main stem of the cultivar has short internodes, which contributes to the formation of more ovaries. The number of side shoots is minimal. The leaf blade is medium in size, green, slightly wrinkled. The stalk is long. Flowering type Spino is female, fruiting type is bouquet. According to the description of the State Register, 1 - 2 female flowers are formed in each leaf node of a cucumber. The originator declares 3 - 5 ovaries.

Fruits are short, almost of the same length, 12-14 cm, cylindrical in shape. The skin is green with medium stripes, although the originators describe the coloration as uniform, without stripes. The surface of the zelents is covered with large tubercles, the pubescence is light, the thorns are large. The pulp has a pleasant consistency, dense and crunchy, has excellent taste and is completely devoid of bitterness. Cucumber weight 81 - 86 grams.

Variety characteristics

  • Spino hybrid is a very early vegetable. The first collection of ripe fruits can be carried out 39 - 40 days after germination;
  • the period from flowering to harvesting in the spring turnover is 15 - 20 days, in the summer-autumn this process proceeds much faster;

  • even when formed on a low trellis, the plant, due to its short internodes, is capable of forming a large number of ovaries;
  • fruiting is stable, yield is concentrated. The marketable yield under film shelters, according to the State Register, was 16 kg per 1 square meter;
  • parthenocarp makes it possible for a cucumber to set fruits without the help of pollinating insects;
  • the variety has excellent stress resistance, due to which it is he who is preferred at very early and late planting dates;
  • the open type of bush has a number of advantages, among which are the unhindered penetration of light to all parts of the plant, a decrease in the incidence of diseases, and a quick recovery. The combination of these factors reduces the cost of caring for Spino;
  • when creating a variety, scientists have invested in it a very useful property - high resistance to a lack of light. This quality is important in regions with short daylight hours;
  • the hybrid is characterized by high immunity. Resistance to cladosporiosis, cucumber mosaic virus, powdery mildew, as well as downy mildew and cucumber vein yellowing virus is noted;
  • it is advisable to harvest the harvest every day, but it is worth noting that the fruits do not outgrow, thanks to the peculiarities, they first grow in length, and only then in width;

  • some inconvenience in caring for the variety creates the need for rationing the ovary when it is excessively formed. Thus, it is possible to avoid the possible abscission of the forming fruits;
  • excellent transportability, cucumbers can be stored for up to 10 days in the refrigerator without losing marketability;
  • the way of using zelents is universal. Cucumbers are good in salads. Spino exhibits excellent pickling qualities and is suitable for canning.

Agrotechnics

The hybrid, created specifically for growing in greenhouses, has some nuances of agricultural technology. First of all, they relate to the timing of planting. To be able to harvest in late February - early March, you need to sow seeds in mid or late January, depending on the conditions of the region. The optimum planting density is 2.5 plants per square meter. Bushes are tied to a trellis. Blinding the bottom 6 leaves will allow the culture to grow a powerful root system. To increase productivity, you can release additional shoots up to 2 or 3 leaves in length. Care for the variety is carried out according to standard rules. Particular attention is paid to top dressing - root and foliar.

Spino quickly gained popularity as a greenhouse culture. Easy to care for, shade tolerant and healthy, the cucumber will yield an early and bountiful harvest, which is why the hybrid is so popular with farmers who grow vegetables for sale. The housewives have their own selection criteria - excellent taste and excellent pickling qualities. Perhaps the only drawback of the variety, apart from the need to standardize the ovary, is the need for annual purchase of seeds.
