Pepper variety Swallow
Pepper Swallow is a semi-spreading standard plant, 45 - 60 cm high. Fruits ripen together. The yield reaches 5 kg per 1 sq. meter. The variety is intended for cultivation in protected and open ground. In terms of ripening, the Swallow belongs to the mid-season varieties. It takes 120 days from germination to technical maturity.
The fruits are cone-shaped and have a dense skin. Fruit weight reaches 100 g. Walls up to 7 mm thick. The color of the fruit depends on the degree of maturity: light green - in technical, and red - in biological. Technological and taste qualities of ripe fruits are excellent.
The variety is resistant to verticillary wilt.
This pepper is suitable for canning and cooking, as well as fresh. The dense skin protects the fruit from damage during transportation and light frost in the fall, when peppers of other varieties with more delicate skin are damaged. Sweet pepper Swallow is valued for its increased plasticity: it easily adapts to the whims of the Russian weather. Also, the dense skin contributes to the long storage of the crop. Amicable ripening will ensure a one-time harvest, while the gardener can be sure that there is enough of it for the preparations and dishes that he has planned.
Pepper Swallow advised me to plant my mother. And for good reason. This variety gives a good harvest almost every year, regardless of the weather. I sow seeds in mid-February in trays on the windowsill. Shoots appear in about 25 - 30 days. After about a month, I dive the seedlings into the greenhouse and over time I begin to gradually harden in the sun. When the plants get stronger, they can be planted in open ground in mid-May. I begin to water abundantly, because the pepper does not tolerate a lack of moisture. In addition, I regularly feed them with mineral fertilizers and organic matter. Moisture and feeding is the main thing in getting a good harvest of pepper. Sometimes it is necessary to treat with fungicides to prevent plant diseases. From mid-August, you can harvest large, red, juicy peppers.
This is not the first season I have been growing a Swallow. Seed germination is almost 100%, seedlings tolerate hardening well, quickly acclimatize. This variety is unpretentious in care, does not get sick, the main thing is to water well and feed regularly. I spray once a season, but only due to the fact that tomatoes, eggplants and zucchini coexist in the beds.
Bushes are small, lush, a large number of fruits on one bush. The peppers ripen together, the shape and size are the same. Fleshy, firm skin, very juicy, not cloying. They go well with salads, stuffing, and winter storage.
A very good variety, I recommend trying it! If I have any questions - write, I will be happy to answer.
I've been planting a Swallow for several years in a row! Perhaps one of the mid-season varieties that you can always count on in terms of harvest. It adapts well to unfavorable weather conditions, the bush is compact, differs in mass fruit set, and, accordingly, in a friendly return of the harvest. If you remove the first wave of fruits, then, under favorable weather conditions and additional fertilizing, you can expect a second wave of the harvest.
The taste of the peppers is mild, and the walls of the pulp are not too thick; it should not be used for drying and cooking paprika. But, due to the fact that the peppers are neat, medium-sized, practically calibrated, Swallow has become a favorite for canning or freezing whole for subsequent stuffing. When fresh, it "sounds" great in salads and stews.
I have been breeding pepper not so long ago. This summer was the third season. One of the varieties that I have been sowing for all three years is the Swallow. A good variety that gives a fairly abundant ovary on the bush. But the first two years I could not achieve the "meatiness" of the peppers themselves. It turned out the peel and seeds. But this year the wall thickness is excellent. I think the reason for this was the abundant watering. Since the pepper grew near the cucumbers and, watering the cucumbers, I also water it. I was very pleased with the result. I will definitely water it next season.
I close the "Swallow" in jars for the winter, making a salad of pepper, cabbage and carrots. Very tasty.
Swallow is a classic! I have known the variety for many years, I grow it every year and am not going to give it up, despite the fact that now you can buy and grow a huge number of new varieties. A swallow is the pepper that an inexperienced gardener must start with growing. Unpretentious, "not sore", not capricious and at the same time very fruitful. The only thing that is very demanding is watering and with the slightest lack of moisture, the plants shed their buds, ovaries and fruits. The Swallow's bushes are very compact and loose - this allows you to grow a large number of plants in a small area (I plant two plants in one hole), which significantly increases the amount of harvest. And another tip - so that the peppers are tied more often and more willingly, you do not need to wait until the adult peppers acquire the color characteristic of the variety, collect them at the stage of technical ripeness (they will ripen perfectly in a cool place).
Every year I plant such a pepper in a greenhouse. It is good for salads, and freeze and stew. There were never any problems with seedlings, it always grew (purchased seeds, I don't leave my own). The fruit is thick-walled, fragrant and delicious.
