Rose Golden Perfume
When we remember climbing roses, a standard picture immediately pops up in our memory: an arch or a gazebo entwined with long, creeping or falling lashes, reminiscent of a fragrant flower waterfall. And although the peak of popularity of this type of roses has already passed (it was observed in the last two decades of the last century), "climbing beauties" are still in service, and many garden plots have at least one copy of them.
History of creation
So, it is already clear that Golden Perfume is a climbing rose, it can be further specified, from the floribunda (large-flowered) class. This is a relatively old variety, created back in 1959 in Holland, known at that time by the specialist Jan Lenders.
Interesting! Lenders created Jan Leenders BV, which later specialized in packaging and exporting "foreign" roses, which is still mainly involved. The most common method of packaging - wrapping with dense polyethylene - was first used in the mid-50s by Lenders.
To develop a new variety, the breeder crossed two post-war floribunda varieties: Goldilocks and Fashion. The result probably surpassed the expectations of the creator himself: for many years his brainchild remained one of the most popular climbing roses, and even now successfully competes with many newcomers who have appeared!
Description of the variety
Connoisseurs attribute Golden Perfume to the so-called climings - modified “classic” floribundas, which differ from the latter mainly by unusually strong growth and equally large flowers. The branchy bush easily grows strong, thick lashes about three meters long. The leaves are large, glossy, dense, dark green in color, in the bright sun their color becomes lighter.
The popularity of the variety is largely due to the yellow flowers - a rather rare option in climbing roses. The unopened bud is darker, richer, but blossoming, the petals become golden yellow, bright and sunny. This sunshine is enhanced by large red stamens.
The buds themselves have the correct goblet shape, and the open flower is densely double, with the number of petals from 50 to 57. The color scheme of the petals does not fade for a long time, and only just before shedding they become noticeably paler.
Other characteristics of flowers:
- diameter about 12 cm;
- located at the tips of the shoots, usually in small brushes;
- have a strong aroma;
- on a flowering bush there are many flowers at the same time, perfectly combined with dark foliage;
- flowering is repeated, between two waves there is a break of 5-6 weeks.
Technical features of the variety
Golden Perfume blooms early, it is one of the very first blooming roses in our garden. The plant is quite demanding on the nutritional value of the soil; it looks ugly on depleted soils. When planting, you need to pay attention that the bush is illuminated by the direct sun at least part of the day.
Demonstrates average resistance to common diseases, requires at least minimal preventive treatment. Winter hardiness is also average; in the conditions of Central Russia, shelter is necessary.
Use in garden plots
Based on all that has been said, it is clear that the flower primarily serves to decorate various vertical surfaces. It attracts attention with its color, because climbing roses are predominantly white, as well as pink or red.
Bearing in mind that the variety belongs to the floribunda, it can also be considered a tall scrub, especially in cooler climates. For this, formative restraining pruning is used.
One such bush will be indispensable near a gazebo or a terrace, because it combines both external beauty and a stable, delicate aroma!
