Apple variety Glory to the winners
Glory to the winners - the apple variety, the fruits of which ripen in summer, late summer and autumn, depending on the region of planting. Place of hatching - Ukraine, Mliyevskaya orchard and vegetable garden experimental station named after L.P.Simirenko (modern name - Institute of pomology named after L.P.Simirenko of NAAS). This variety was obtained in 1928 by breeders L.M.Ro and P.E. Tsekhmistrenko by the method of hybridization of popular varietal apple trees - Folding x Mekintosh (Macintosh)... Since 1954, the variety has been zoned in almost all Russian regions in which industrial gardening is developed, and also gained popularity in various regions of the former Soviet Union (North Caucasus, Ukraine, etc.).
The trees are vigorous, have a powerful, spreading, wide-pyramidal crown at a young age, which eventually takes on a highly oval or highly rounded shape. The main branches are straight, when they leave the trunk, they form an acute angle (the lower tier is 65 - 75, the upper one is 40 - 50 degrees), the ends are directed upwards, the bark is brown in color. As the tree grows, the main branches diverge to the sides and are moderately covered with ringlets and fruit twigs. In gardens located in the southern regions, with a good agricultural background, fruiting is observed already on 2-year-old apple trees.
Apple tree Glory to the winners has a high shoot-forming ability. Excitability of the kidneys is below average. The type of fruiting is mixed. Apple trees mainly bear fruit on spears and ringlets, less often on fruit twigs. Shoots are straight, brown in color, densely covered with small lenticels. When growing in a nursery, the stems have a reddish-brown hue, a weakly genital shape and a shiny surface. Leaves are light green in color, with a barely perceptible yellowness, medium in size, rounded and rounded-oval in shape, when they leave the stems, they form an acute angle, along the central vein at the base there is a slight curvature, along the edges the leaves are slightly raised and have a double-crested serration the tips are short-pointed, the surface of the leaf plate is flat, almost smooth, finely wrinkled, slightly pubescent. The petioles are not brightly colored, the lanceolate stipules are small.
During the flowering period, apple trees are very attractive: the blossoming flowers are pink in color and have the shape of a saucer, the bases of staminate filaments are red, a column of pistils without pubescence, with stigmas located at the same level with the staminate anthers or slightly above them. The buds are red. Trees bloom in medium terms. Pollen with low to medium viability (12 to 67%). The annual content of optically empty pollen grains in the total mass of pollen is 27 - 48%. Glory to the winners is a self-fruitless variety. As a result of free pollination, 4 - 8% of fruits are tied, from the best pollinators, among which such varieties as Melba (Melba), Borovinka, Antonovka ordinary, Vadimovka, Priam, James Grieve, Delicia, fruit set can reach from 12 to 30%.
The fruits of the Glory winners apple tree are outwardly quite appetizing and attractive, they are round, oblong-rounded or slightly conical in shape in the upper part, not ribbed or with a barely expressed one rib, the skin is glossy. Apples can be medium and large in size (the average weight of an apple is usually in the range of 120 - 180 g). To obtain large fruits, it is recommended to choose tinned places (with grass under trees) in the garden area for planting seedlings, with an optimal level of air humidity and saturated soil. The main color of apples at the time of removable maturity is yellowish-green, the integumentary color is evenly distributed over almost the entire skin with a deep red blush with a weak bluish bloom, there are also a large number of light subcutaneous dots, often with corking in the middle. Peduncles are of medium length and thickness. The lateral fruits, located on the pouch, have thinner and elongated stalks extending far forward from a smooth, rather narrow funnel. The calyx is closed, of medium size, the sepals are not tightly closed. The saucer is even, shallow and not wide. The sub-cup tube is short and conical in shape. The axial cavity is quite voluminous. The seed chambers are large, vertically elongated, open into the cavity with wide slits, each containing 4 - 6 small, dark brown, round, slightly oval seeds.
The pulp of apples is yellowish-white or light creamy, medium-grained structure, moderately aromatic, quite juicy, tender, sweet-sour taste. The evaluation of the dessert qualities of apples on a 5-point tasting scale is 4.4 - 4.6 points. By chemical composition, the fruits contain: the sum of sugars - 13 - 14.4%, sugars (10.7%), ascorbic acid (8 mg / 100 g), P-active substances (110 mg / 100 g), titratable acids ( 0.8%). Apples are great for fresh consumption, and can also be used for processing into jams, marmalades, juices. Drying and wetting are possible.
The period of removable maturity of apples of the Slava Winners variety is determined by the locality of trees: in the southern regions (for example, Kuban) this is the first half of August, in the forest-steppe zone - the end of August, in central Russia (for example, the Oryol region) and Polesie - the beginning of September. Ripe fruits are prone to intense shedding, therefore, harvesting is often organized ahead of schedule and involves further artificial ripening. Fresh fruit storage is possible until the end of December (in the cellar - up to 1.5 months, in the refrigerator - up to 3.5 - 4 months). During storage, apples sometimes swell a little. The marketability of fruits is 80 - 90%.
On a weak vegetative rootstock, fruiting occurs at 4 - 5 years in the southern regions, in the northern regions - a little later, on a vigorous rootstock - at 5 - 6 years. The first years of apple trees bear fruit steadily every year, in the future, periodicity can be observed in fruiting, which is significantly influenced by the level of the agricultural background. The variety has a high or medium level of productivity: at 7 - 8 years, the apple tree gives up to 10 - 18 kg of yield, after 13 - 14 years the yield from one tree can reach from 40 to 75 kg. Yield indicators in the Kuban are on average 195 c / ha, in the steppe zone - 110 c / ha. When choosing a compacted planting scheme and an increased agricultural background, the level of productivity of the variety can increase to 300 c / ha on new dwarf and semi-dwarf rootstocks.
The level of winter hardiness of apple trees is quite high, but the level of drought resistance is low, as a result of which, in dry years, the fruits may shrink and prematurely shatter. Susceptibility to scab is medium, to powdery mildew - low.
The main advantages of the Slava Winners variety are: high yield and winter hardiness, excellent dessert qualities of apples.
The main disadvantage is associated with the low level of drought resistance (this has become especially noticeable over the past 10 years against the background of a significant increase in the sum of active temperatures). In addition, a thickened crown requires appropriate care (pruning, thinning).
The value of this variety in breeding work is due to the excellent dessert taste and high commercial characteristics of its fruits.
Once I tried this variety (Glory to the winners), I really liked it! Unfortunately, I never met again.Where I don’t ask (shops, stalls, bazaar), the answer is “didn’t hear it, we don’t know”, etc. ... Tell me where and how to get it? Thank!
Yesterday we bought it in the Korochansky fruit nursery.
Today I bought them in Ashan, Reutov, Moscow region. Indeed, very tasty)
Sold in Vkusville stores.
There are apple trees. They are quickly sold out, as far as I understand. Our direction is east. In the nursery of Alexander Nikitenko, where we are now buying seedlings, they said to come in early spring, in April.
In Voronezh there is.
And did not try to look for this variety under its real name: Glory to the Peremogians?
A week ago we bought it in the Nikolskoye nursery near Belgorod.
I have one apple tree of this variety. The tree is strong, beautiful, looks especially beautiful in bloom. I think that it is worth having in your garden. The apples are tasty, sweet, but with a pronounced sourness. Very juicy. In the most fruitful years, we even squeezed juice out of them and prepared it for the winter. Thanks to this acidity, apples are suitable for making fruit mousses, casseroles, and jams. If you use them for baking, you even have to strain out excess juice, they are so juicy.
It also has a very good ripening period. When the early apples have already departed, and the autumn ones are still green, the Glory to the winners begins to ripen very conveniently. We do not pluck them for storage, but use them as they mature. This period is not very short, about 4 - 5 weeks.
Another thing I like about this apple tree is its reliability. Our tree bears fruit every year. Sometimes the harvest is huge, sometimes less, but it is always there.
I read an interesting thing for myself in the article. It turns out Antonovki, which grow in our garden, are good pollinators for Glory to the winners.)))
We also have a young apple tree of this variety. She is 7 years old. Last year, 3 apples were born, but this year there were many. Apples are very tasty, sweet with a slight sourness, juicy, aromatic and children eat them with pleasure. The disadvantage is that they are practically not stored, you must immediately eat or process them. And even from a tree, if you do not have time to pick it in time, the pulp begins to brown inside. But for a summer variety, this, probably, cannot be considered a disadvantage. For taste I give the top five!
Great apple tree! Bought in the spring of a 3-tap In the same summer, they ate their own 5 apples. Very tasty and juicy. One of the favorite apple trees of many of our friends, and now ours. Recommended!
And we have not worked out with this apple tree yet. She has been growing on the site for three years, she is only 5 years old. It has been bearing fruit for the second year already, but we haven't really tasted apples - scab is a "favorite" phenomenon!
Because of the scab, in the summer of 2015, it was not possible to taste a ripe apple, the entire first small crop (a couple of dozen) rotted and fell. We managed to snatch only one not quite ripe one. It was juicy sweet and sour and surprisingly aromatic (in my opinion, when the apple is ripe, it is less aromatic).
Summer 2016 - scab again! A lot of apples were tied, but almost all of them rotted and fell off, a dozen or two were able to taste ripe, but they are all rotten. The apples taste good - very juicy, sweet and sour, the sourness is well expressed, but the taste is harmonious. The aroma of unripe apples is no longer defined. It is now the 20th of July, the summer is hot, and some apples come across overripe - brown inside.
The growth of the apple tree is good, the tree will probably be tall. However, skeletal branches do branch off at an acute angle, and this raises concerns. In the summer of 2015, the apple tree was badly broken by winds, I had to cut out the central conductor and transfer it to the side one.Because of this, her vidocq is clumsy, so she does not shine with beauty (especially in comparison with the nearby Florina).
I hope that the apple tree will gain strength and show itself in all its glory!
I ate them all my childhood, when I left for Ukraine for the summer. I haven't tasted better!
My husband bought 3 seedlings of 2-year-old apple trees at the local market in the Lipetsk region. I did not write down the names, and accordingly I forgot their names. One of them turned out to be Glory to the Winners. Indicated on the Internet. Bloomed the next year, but dropped everything. Then the next there were 3 apples. One fell, two survived. They seemed sour to everyone. Because they did not know the variety and when the apples ripen, they did not know either. The next spring, everyone was hit by recurrent frosts. There were no apples in that direction at all. And only this year 2018, five buckets of apples were removed. They were beautiful, large, with a slightly creamy pulp, very juicy, aromatic, but still sweet and sour. I would like a little sweeter, but my parents really liked it. When lying at the end of October, several apples were cut in half. I read that this strain has such a tendency to explode. All these years the apple tree has grown rapidly. There were no problems with her. Conclusion: we definitely leave the variety. Maybe I will graft some other variety into the crown.
