But this group is good not only in bouquets, a wide variety of shades and color combinations are skillfully used by landscape designers, creating fabulously beautiful corners in park areas and gardens. Miss Piggy is rightfully considered one of the best hybrid tea varieties of the new generation. It is successfully used not only as a cutting plant, it is also ideal for landscaping and landscape design. Our heroine liked not only professionals, but also ordinary gardeners, who were able to appreciate the beauty of the new variety.

Creation history, awards and name

This is a fairly young variety that appeared in 2010. It was created in the Netherlands, in the renewed company Lex +, which is the world leader in the field of rose breeding. There is no information about the varieties used in the process of breeding as parental forms. Exhibition name - Miss Piggy. Our heroine did not go unnoticed by professionals evaluating new items. In 2010, at the prestigious international exhibition Horti Fair, she received the Fleur Premeur (Best New Variety) award.

The variety got its playful name in honor of the famous and beloved by many heroine - the flirty pig from the humorous Muppet show, which is called Miss Piggy.

Description

The perennial is fast growing. It is an upright, compact bush with a lot of straight, even and strong shoots. Miss Piggy's crown is not too sprawling. Various sources give ambiguous information about the height of the culture. Some indicate that the bush grows no higher than 50 - 80 cm, others describe a taller plant, 120 - 150 cm high. There are no thorns on the shoots, which greatly facilitates the care of the rose and does not interfere with cutting. The shrub is rather densely covered with foliage. Leaves are medium in size, pinnate, leathery to the touch, with a matte surface. The dark green color of the foliage perfectly sets off the delicate flower rosettes. Each shoot is usually crowned with a single bud. But sometimes small inflorescences are formed, consisting of 2 or 3 flowers.

The bud is high, of the correct goblet shape. When opened, it takes on an exquisite bowl-like shape. The flower is densely double, rather large, with a diameter of about 10 cm, consists of beautifully arranged 35 - 40 petals. The wide-wavy edges of the petals are smoothly bent back, but sometimes they form sharp tops. Many rose growers note that the flower rosette is equally good both at the beginning of dissolution and at the stage of full disclosure. The color of our heroine can be called exquisitely delicate, warm. The outer petals are pale pink in color, the central ones attract with a peach or salmon color. The transition from one shade to another is smooth and soft.

Bloom

Adorable Miss Piggy belongs to the re-blooming roses. During the growing season, it produces two waves of flowering with a break of a couple of weeks. True, sometimes the rest can last a little longer. Miss Piggy's flowering periods are long and abundant. The first buds appear in early June, the budding process ends with the arrival of stable cold weather, so in the south, flowering may end at the end of October. The flowers open slowly and last at least 10 days, sometimes up to 2 weeks. The color of the petals practically does not fade in the sun, but towards the end of flowering, the colors become lighter, the middle acquires light yellow shades. The aroma is pleasant, unobtrusive. It is fully preserved in the cut flower. The rose is very neat, it blooms neatly, the petals do not fall, but simply dry up. Therefore, as a rule, it is clear under the bush.

Characteristics

  • A healthy Miss Piggy seedling is able to bloom in the year of planting;
  • according to the level of winter hardiness, our heroine is suitable for growing in central Russia.It tolerates winters well with temperatures of -23 ° C, which corresponds to the 6th USDA zone. Frozen bush is recovering well;
  • the culture is moderately resistant to major diseases. In favorable years, the resistance is high, but in the epiphytic variety it can get sick with black spot and powdery mildew. Some rose growers note that the plant can also suffer from rust;
  • declared average resistance to rain, only individual flowers can be damaged. But according to the observation of flower growers, our heroine tolerates a short rainy period very well. Only small spots on the petals remain in memory of the precipitation;
  • the plant tolerates the hot period well, the petals do not sprinkle, the edges do not melt and do not dry out;
  • it is often grown as a cut variety. The long leg, devoid of thorns and crowned with a delicately colored rose, looks very decorative. In a vase, Miss Piggy retains its freshness and aroma for about 2 weeks.

Agrotechnics

Miss Piggy seedlings can be planted in spring and fall, although many growers recommend planting in May. Plants with a closed root system are planted even in summer. Our heroine loves to soak up the sun, but she is afraid of strong drafts. Therefore, select a site that is well lit and only slightly ventilated. The soil should have neutral acidity, be loose and nutritious. The variety loves watering, but constant waterlogging of the soil will weaken its health, and the plant will lose its decorative effect. It is enough for the soil in the root zone to be in a moderately moist state. Top dressing is applied according to the standard scheme, preference is given to universal fertilizers containing a full range of minerals necessary for flowering. Although perennials should not be denied in organic matter of plant origin. Manure, and especially chicken droppings in the wrong proportions, can burn the root system. In cool regions, the rose is covered for the winter; in the southern regions, it is enough to insulate the root zone.

Use cases

The new variety is incredibly popular as a cutting plant. The delicate color of the flower, the magnificent shape of the bud, the densely doubled large rosette, the pleasant aroma - these qualities of Miss Piggy are in demand among florists. But also as a garden plant, the variety is very popular. Flowerbeds, mixborders, a single planting or a combination of several plants that match the color scheme - everything is suitable for our heroine.

It is easy to care for Miss Piggy, as she is suitable for the usual agricultural technique. It grows well as a horticultural crop; it is grown for cutting in greenhouse complexes. The perennial can withstand ordinary winters in central Russia, has good health, but needs preventive treatments. Pruning is easy as the stems are devoid of thorns. During the flowering period, in order to maintain decorativeness, faded roses must be removed in time.
