Rose Schneewalzer
This rose is very popular in Western Europe and Scandinavia. Connoisseurs of beauty from China and Japan also recognized the perfection of the shape and lines of her flowers. This variety is very popular among Russian flower growers. Its incredibly huge, hybrid tea-like flowers have a delicate scent, and the white color is ideal for use in landscaping, as it is easy to combine with other color options. We are talking about the famous Schneewalzer variety, or Schniwalzer. It belongs to the climbers popular among landscape designers and flower growers, but it can also be grown as a shrub.
History of creation
This famous German woman was born in the Tantau rose nursery. Its author is Hans Jürgen Ewers. Florists first learned about it in 1987, the novelty was introduced as Snow Waltz, or Snow Waltz. This name perfectly characterizes the abundant and very beautiful flowering of the variety. The rose also has other names - Schneewalzer 87, and the romantic French call it Valse des Neiges. The unique code name is TANrezlav. Unfortunately, parental forms cannot be traced, and there is no information on awards.
Description
The plant is powerful, vigorous, grows very quickly. The seedling in a short time reaches a height of 200 - 300 cm, and under favorable conditions it can even grow to a record 400 cm. The bush is dense, dense, well-branching and spreading, its crown width reaches 200 cm. But at the same time, the plant looks neat. The old branches that make up the basis of the perennial are very thick, sometimes as thick as the wrist of an adult, strong and tough. Because of this feature, the Schneewalzer is often called the rose tree. The growing shoots are more flexible, but still it will not work to lay them in the winter. The thorns are large, not very densely located. Perennial foliage is good. The leaves are large, pinnate, dark green, leathery to the touch, with a shiny surface. Leaf blades are oval-rounded with a weakly expressed apex. Shoots are very rarely crowned with single flowers, mainly a flower cluster of 3 or more buds (sometimes up to 6 or 7 pieces) is formed at their top. Such a large inflorescence makes even strong shoots droop smoothly under its weight. It should be noted that the peculiarity of this rose is the formation of flower clusters on the shoots of the current season.
The Schneewalzer bud is very refined, goblet, tall. It opens into a flower of impeccable beauty, initially in the shape of a bowl with a slightly loose center. But as it dissolves, the rosette becomes flatter, the middle with stamens on long legs and yellow anthers is clearly visible. Terry flower, consists of 25 petals. The rosette is incredibly large - from 14 to 16 cm, growers claim that individual flowers can reach 18 or even 20 cm.Many sources call the color of the variety white, but this is not a very accurate description. Immediately after opening, the rose is more likely to have a pale lemon or even light pistachio hue with a pearl pink center. As the dissolution proceeds, these already weak shades fade, and then the color of the Schneewalzer flowers really turns white.
Flowering period
Snow Waltz is a re-blooming variety that will delight you with two or even three waves of flowers throughout the season. Flowering begins in May - June, depending on the region, and ends in October, with the arrival of persistent cold weather. Our hero is distinguished by abundant and rather long flowering. With good care and a favorable climate, the break between tides is almost invisible. Unfortunately, many growers say that the lifespan of a single rose flower is short, it lasts only about 5 days, and in the heat it is even 2 - 3 days.True, thanks to the abundant bud formation and the alternate opening of flower rosettes, the beauty and decorativeness of the shrub is always at a high level. The aroma of the flower queen conquers with its lightness and sophistication. For some, he evokes fruit and berry associations, for others he catches notes of citrus in them. In cooler weather, the aroma becomes more pronounced. In a faded form, the rosette is not a very aesthetic sight, the petals look sloppy and, as it were, dirty, sometimes partially crumbling. To maintain decorativeness, it is important to remove flowers that have outlived their days in time.
Characteristics
- Schneewalzer has good frost resistance and hibernates without any problems at a temperature of -20.6 ° C, but not higher than -23.3 ° C. This corresponds to USDA Zone 6 (a system adopted by the USDA). This zone includes the Krasnodar Territory and Crimea. In the suburbs, for example, a rose needs to be insulated. To do this, iron arcs are installed over the perennial and covered with two layers of spunbond. Under this covering material, the plant will be able to breathe freely, and at the same time will be protected from frost and wind;
- Schneewalzer immunity is stated as medium. In unfavorable epiphytic years, a German woman is affected by the main diseases of culture. But among the rose growers there is no agreement on this matter. Some highly praise the variety for its high resistance to black spot and powdery mildew. Growers in cooler regions located in zone 4 of the USDA note the low immunity of the plant. The variety is more resistant to pests, but sometimes aphids and bronzes appear, attracted by the smell;
- the resistance of the rose to rain is very weak. If the flower rosette is able to withstand a short-term rain (only small specks may remain on the petals), then prolonged rains will affect the flower in the most negative way. White petals, although they seem dense, quickly deteriorate from high humidity, and the buds will die without opening;
- in the heat, rose petals can also suffer; under the scorching rays, they melt and dry out.
Agrotechnics
In central Russia, planting the Schneewalzer variety is worth doing in the spring - from April to May. In the southern regions, the best time for this procedure is October. Pick a site that is even, slightly ventilated, but protected from strong winds, well lit. In the southern regions, it is important that the perennial is in diffuse penumbra during the midday period. The culture loves watering, but it is important not to overmoisten the soil under the bush, otherwise a fungal infection will quickly develop in warmth and moisture. During the flowering period, preference is given to phosphorus-potassium fertilizers, but nitrogen and organic matter are not used at this time. Nitrogen is good only in spring, and organics can be used in autumn. At least 2 preventive treatments for diseases and pests must be carried out in the spring (a break between treatments is at least 2 weeks). And then - as needed. If you are growing the Schneewalzer as a climbing variety, it is worth considering what to plant at its feet. Due to the fact that flower clusters are formed at the ends of the shoots, the bottom of the perennial often remains naked. Another option is a multi-stage haircut, thanks to which each level of the bush is decorated with large flowers. Many flower growers in central Russia have adapted to growing a crop in the form of a shrub. This successful option not only maintains the high decorative effect of the shrub, but also allows you to prepare the rose for the winter period without any problems. At the same time, powerful perennial shoots do not need support at all.
The amazing and unique Snow Waltz will charm you with unusually large, porcelain-like white flowers with a delicate aroma. In care, the culture is not particularly capricious, but the tallness of the plant, which needs proper pruning and shaping, can add hassle.In cooler regions, shelter will be required for the winter. But in the south, you don't have to worry about that. Even in a snowless winter, it will be enough to mulch the root zone, the main thing during this period is to protect the rose bush from the prevailing winter wind, which can dry out the shoots.
Schneewalzer is the true queen of flowers. It is extremely popular with landscape designers for vertical landscaping. This large-flowered variety is often used as decorations for weddings; arbors, arches, pergolas are twisted around it. White is ideal for creating a romantic and cozy corner. Thanks to its tallness, the Schneewalzer can be grown as a hedge. The white coloration makes the rose an ideal companion for other crops with different colors. But, of course, combinations of white and red, white and green are considered classics and always remain in fashion.
