Plum variety Bogatyrskaya
Bogatyrskaya is a variety of Prunus domestica of late or very late ripening. Bred at the Nizhne-Volzhsky Research Institute of Agriculture through crossing 2 varieties - Gigantic x Local Hungarian. The authorship belongs to R.V. Korneev and V.A. Korneev.
In 1962, the variety was sent for state testing. In 1987 it was entered into the state register for the Nizhnevolzhsky (Volgograd region) region.
The trees are medium-sized, with a spreading, raised crown of medium density and rounded shape. The bark of the trunk and the main branches of the flaky type, painted in gray. The branches are crooked, gray in color, when they leave the trunk, they form sharp corners. Shoots are medium in length and thickness, strong, tinted gray-brown. Lentils are numerous. Buds are medium in size, conical in shape, brown in color; on the shoot are located at an angle of 45 degrees. Leaves are medium in size, obovate, short-pointed, with a pointed base, pubescence is weak, along the edge there is a crenate serration. The leaf blade is dark green on top and light green on the bottom, the surface is corrugated, the shape is concave, with a curvature upward. Petioles are long, pigmented, pubescent. The glands are small, colored yellow, in the amount of 2 pcs. Stipules are absent.
When forming, it is recommended to leave horizontal branches, because those that grow at an acute angle or are directed vertically upward break under the weight of the crop.
Inflorescences 2 - 3-flowered. The flowers are of medium size, white in color. Fruiting of a mixed type: the formation of fruits occurs mainly on bouquet branches, last year's long growths and spurs.
The fruits of the Bogatyrskaya plum are large in size (average weight 30 - 40 g, maximum - 50 - 60 g), elongated-oval, with a rounded top and a rounded or slightly elongated base. The funnel is shallow. The skin is dense, dark purple in color (almost black when ripe), with a bluish waxy bloom of medium intensity. The abdominal suture is medium, clearly visible. Peduncles are straight, short, of medium thickness. The bones are of medium size (7 - 8% of the weight of the pulp), oval in shape, the separability from the pulp is average.
The pulp is greenish-yellow in color, dense consistency, gristly structure, tender, juicy, taste - good, sour-sweet, with a honey flavor. The juice is colorless. According to the biochemical composition, the fruits contain: dry matter - 17.9%, the amount of sugars - 12.66%, acids - 0.56%, ascorbic acid - 9.63 mg / 100 g. A variety of universal use: used fresh, suitable for various types of processing. Fruit transportability is very good.
Flowering takes place in medium terms (early May). Fruits reach removable ripeness at the end of the 2nd decade of August.
This plum is self-fertile and can produce a good harvest without nearby pollinating plants. Early maturity is average: at the time of fruiting, trees enter the 4th - 5th year after planting in the garden as one-year-olds. Fruiting is annual.
The variety works well on apricot, cherry plum, felted cherry, plum, large-fruited thorn. Depending on the stock, the lifespan of trees ranges from 15 to 30 years.
The average yield of mature trees is 60 - 80 kg / der. After the start of fruiting, young trees increase their productivity at a very fast pace. The yield of 5 - 6-year-old specimens can reach 50 - 70 kg / der.
This plum is highly winter-hardy. Resistance to diseases (including moniliosis and clasterosporium) and pests is also high.
The variety is suitable for intensive gardening. Also suitable for mechanized fruit harvesting.
The main advantages of the Bogatyrskaya plum include: large fruits of good quality, fruit resistance to cracking in wet years, high winter hardiness and high yield.
Among the shortcomings, the tendency of trees to overload with crops is noted, as a result of which the branches break, and the fruits become smaller.
We planted this variety in the hope of a heroic autumn harvest. In the first two years, the growth of the seedling was such that the three-year-old looked like a full-grown tree. Although they cut it off sparingly to form a crown from a conductor and three sides. In the fourth year, she stopped chasing in height. And only in the fifth spring the Bogatyrskaya plum blossomed so that we not only tasted, but also ate. The plum is quite tasty, but more meaty than juicy. The pulp is firm and slightly fibrous. And the bone is separated from her, taking part of the pulp with it. In the fruits, even with full ripeness, a lot of acid is felt, so the jam from them turns out to be awesome.
