Amana tomato variety orange

Amazing, bright, fleshy tomato Amana orange (original name - Amana orange), which in 2016 at the tomato festival in America entered the "Top-10" of the most delicious, having bypassed more than 600 other species, of course, conquered Russian lovers of Beef tomatoes. This orange miracle comes from the USA, the name of the person who discovered it for vegetable growers is Gary Haley (Staley). This person, in addition to his main job, is fond of collecting and growing unusual tomatoes. Once he received another batch of seeds, planted them, and when the harvest was ripe, he was delighted with one of the varieties - its fruits were so bright and large. For 3 more seasons, the keen grower cultivated this variety to confirm its characteristics. And so, in 1984, the new product was presented by him on the Seed Savers seed exchange. The unusual name of the species is given in honor of the German colony-settlement of Aman, located in the state of Iowa, where Gary worked for some time. The overseas guest is not included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia. Russian tomato growers prefer to grow it in greenhouses, where the orange guest feels much more comfortable. Our hero is a varietal crop.

Description

The plant is indeterminate, reaching 1.5 - 2.0 meters in height. The stem is quite powerful, the foliage is good. Tomato leaves are large, dark green, narrow, of the usual type, with a dull, slightly wrinkled surface. The internodes are not very long. Inflorescences of intermediate type. The first fruit cluster is laid over the 9th leaf, the subsequent ones are formed every 3 leaves. About 5 ovaries can form in the fruit cluster. Haman's peduncle is orange with a joint.

The fruits of the variety are flat-round, with a wide ribbing, which can appear to a greater or lesser extent. They are large in size, the usual weight is 300 - 600 grams. But if you carry out the rationing of the brush, you can get very impressive results, the weight of tomatoes will increase to 800 grams, and sometimes kilogram specimens grow. The skin is thin, glossy. Unripe tomatoes are light green, without a dark spot at the stalk, and their ribbing is more pronounced. Ripe tomato becomes extraordinarily attractive thanks to its rich orange color with a honey tint. The pulp is of the same warm color, very fleshy (they say this is solid meat), tender, of excellent consistency, sugary at the break, does not flow down when cut. The aroma is very pleasant - fresh, tomato-fruity. The seed chambers, although numerous, are very small, located closer to the walls, there are not many seeds. The taste is great, sweet, with a fruity aroma. Some gourmets note the presence of a slight astringency, which gives the product a spice. Orange pulp contains the carotenoid pigment lycopene, which reduces the risk of developing cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

Variety characteristics

  • Bright Amana orange belongs to the mid-early species. From the moment of full germination to the beginning of the appearance of the first ripe tomatoes, 100 - 105 days pass, or 40 - 45 days after transplanting the seedlings to a permanent place;
  • the tomato yield is good, gardeners call the culture hardworking. Up to 3.5 kg can be removed from one plant. The description from the agrofirm "Partner" provides data on 16 - 18 kg per 1 square meter;
  • There is no specific information about the ability of our orange hero to resist this or that disease, but the general resistance to the main diseases of culture is emphasized. Vegetable growers confirm this, indicating that all parts of the plant during the growth process have shown resistance to fungal or viral infections;
  • according to reviews, the fruits are resistant to cracking, which is especially important for large carpets, since this problem is the "Achilles heel" of many varieties. But sometimes corky cracking is noted around the apex, at the place where the calyx is attached.This often happens if the tomato is grown outdoors, and there is a cold snap during the flowering period;
  • our hero does not tolerate the weather whims very well, during the cold snap he can bear fruit with very small tomatoes, and only after the establishment of warm weather does his productivity increase. That is why it is recommended to grow Amana orange in greenhouses;
  • transportability is low, a large and soft tomato easily crumples, its appearance deteriorates. Therefore, our hero is not suitable for industrial production;

  • let him down and keeping it good. The fruits will not be stored for a long time, they must be immediately processed or eaten;
  • the way of eating tomatoes is universal. First of all, such a fleshy tomato is used in its natural form, it is good for making beautiful and healthy summer salads and sandwiches. The bright pulp makes a wonderful juice or paste. But this variety is not suitable for conservation, the pulp is spreading.

Agrotechnics

It is recommended to grow Aman orange in a seedling way. It is better to calculate the planting time yourself in order to take into account the climatic features of the region. Seedlings that are two months old are suitable for transplanting into the ground. The culture in the process of growth will need support, and it is necessary to tie up not only the stem, but also the fruit brushes, since under the weight of the ripening fruits they can break at the point of attachment to the stem. Recommended planting density: 3 - 4 plants per square meter. The variety will show the best results when formed in 1 or 2 stems. You need to plant tomatoes in the lightest corner of the greenhouse. Growing in greenhouses will require compliance with the irrigation regime. The soil should not be waterlogged. During the ripening process, the amount of moisture is somewhat reduced so that the fruits do not crack and retain a sweet taste. Also, the yield needs to be supported by fertilizers, you can use mineral or organic fertilizing. Despite the good resistance to diseases, do not forget that our hero belongs to varietal plants. Therefore, processing, at least with biological products, must be carried out.

The amazing Amana orange is very fond of tomato growers all over the world, so the variety is in the collection of most of them. This large-fruited crop with bright, tasty tomatoes will not disappoint even beginners with its yield and will not burden you with care. And experienced vegetable growers can practice growing giant specimens, to the envy of neighbors and to the delight of households. In addition to the inability to transport the crop over long distances, no critical remarks were identified. The variety is ideal for growing on personal subsidiary plots. Moreover, the quality of the seed can be controlled independently by selecting the most beautiful tomatoes for this.
