Tomato variety Bovine heart
If you ask which tomatoes are considered the largest and fleshy, then the answer immediately comes to mind - Bull's heart. The fruits of this tomato really delight in their appearance. As you know, demand creates offers, so breeders from Agrofirma Poisk LLC also decided to please Russian gardeners with a domestic variety of the same name, while the “original” itself was bred by Italian specialists. The application for registration of the novelty in the State Register of Plants of the Russian Federation was submitted in 2001. Date of entry into the register - 2003. The tomato is approved for cultivation in all regions of Russia. Recommended for garden plots, small farms and household plots. Bovine heart is suitable for cultivation in the open field and under temporary film shelters.
Description
The variety belongs to the determinant, although the height of the bush in closed ground can reach 1.5 meters. In the open field, it grows from 80 to 120 cm. The plant is powerful and spreading, the foliage is weak. The stem is strong, slightly pubescent. The leaves are alternate, regular, medium-sized, green. The surface is matte, the veins are reticulate. The flowers of the Bull's heart are yellow, the inflorescence is simple. The first fruit cluster is laid over the 8-9 node. The next ones are formed in 1 - 2 sheets. Each cluster can contain up to 5 ovaries. The peduncle is articulated. After the formation of 5 - 7 fruit brushes, as a rule, the growth of the tomato bush stops.
The fruits of the variety have a beautiful heart-shaped shape. May have slight ribbing. The average weight, according to the creators, is 110 - 225 grams, indoors - up to 500 grams. In width, the fruit can reach 10 - 15 cm. The heaviest tomatoes ripen in the first cluster, and then the weight decreases. According to gardeners, the weight of the fetus of the Bull Heart can stretch up to 1 kg, it all depends on the care and method of formation. The skin is thin, but firm, and easily separates from the pulp. When unripe, the color is light green with a small dark green spot at the peduncle. At the stage of consumer ripeness, the tomato turns red, the stain disappears. The pulp is very fleshy, contains almost no liquid, juicy, sugary, with a pronounced aroma. The consistency is dense, without voids. The taste of the fruit is excellent - sweet, with a slight sourness, it is considered a reference. There are few seeds, the number of nests is up to 4 pieces. The seed chambers are small, located closer to the walls, and not to the center.
Variety characteristics
- By the timing of ripening, the Bovine heart can be attributed to late-ripening - mid-late. The period from full germination to the start of harvest takes 120 - 130 days;
- yields are good, but indicators from different sources differ somewhat. So, the State Register of Plants of the Russian Federation indicates that the marketable yield is 3-4 kg per 1 square meter. Other sources indicate a more significant harvest - 8 - 12 kg per 1 square meter. Perhaps this spread is due to the fact that the variety shows the maximum level in the greenhouse, while in the open field the yield is always lower;
- the immunity is average, under unfavorable conditions, infection with late blight is possible;
- fruits are resistant to cracking;
- the keeping quality of tomatoes is not very good, it is better not to store the harvested crop, but immediately use it for food or start up for processing;
- The bovine heart has a salad purpose, but wonderful tomato products can be made from the fleshy pulp.
Agrotechnics
In the southern regions, the variety can be grown by the seed method. In cool ones - only seedlings. Taking into account the climate of the region, sowing for seedlings is carried out 50-60 days before transplanting tomatoes to a permanent place. The soil should be nutritious and loose. When grown outdoors, you should choose a well-lit (at least 6 hours a day), sunny area so that the sugar content of the fruit does not decrease. Planting density - no more than 3 bushes per 1 square meter. It is recommended to form it into 1 or 2 stems so that the tomatoes are as large as possible.A garter to the support is required. The stepsons need to be removed on time. The plant is responsive to watering and feeding with universal mineral fertilizers. In addition, loosening and weeding are necessary. Due to the weak resistance to late blight, preventive treatments should be carried out on time.
Subspecies Bovine heart
The great popularity could not but lead to the creation of a huge number of varieties. Therefore, the variety has so many namesakes, differing in color.
Pink - its creators - "Agrofirma Aelita". The Bull Heart Pink has been in the State Register of Plants of the Russian Federation since 2012. The tomato is determinant, but grows up to 1.8 meters in the greenhouse. The leaves are large. The habit of the bush is weak. By the ripening period, it is mid-season, for salad purposes. The color of a ripe tomato is pink-raspberry. On the lower hands, giants weighing up to 500 grams ripen, on the upper ones the result is a little more modest - 200 - 350 grams. Resistance to late blight is relative. Form into 1 - 2 stems. Under a film cover, it shows up to 7.5 - 8 kg from 1 sq. meters.
Orange - this novelty also belongs to "Aelita". It was registered in the State Register in 2018. The plant is indeterminate, up to 180 cm high, the foliage is medium, the bush looks powerful. Good for baby food. Form into 1 - 2 stems. The yield is average. The variety is not registered in the State Register.

A bovine heart is the perfect tomato. Excellent taste and meatiness make it an excellent product for summer salads and natural consumption. Unpretentiousness will allow even a novice vegetable grower to get an excellent harvest. The excess of the harvested fruit can be easily processed into tomato products. But even in this barrel of honey there is a small fly in the ointment - this is the cultivar's vulnerability to late blight. But timely preventive maintenance will save you from this trouble.
I have been growing a Bull Heart for the second year (pink and orange). Very tasty tomatoes, fleshy, aromatic. True, in our climate, they have to be planted with seedlings and in greenhouses, but it's worth it. And even the formation of a bush does not spoil the impression of these tomatoes.
A bull heart is a favorite in our garden! With moderate precipitation, the bush gets stronger, has a large number of flowers. The flowers do not fade and most of them turn into tomatoes. A productive variety, definitely. Their downside is that they tend to rot due to the large amount of rainfall. The first ripe tomatoes are difficult to tolerate. The next ones are more persistent.
I literally fell in love with these tomatoes eight years ago, when I first bought seedlings. Although this variety is quite demanding on agricultural technology, the resources expended are always paid off by the enormous size and incredible taste of the fruits! This year I tried the pink variety. Due to the strong dampness, I had to fight late blight, but I still managed to enjoy the taste of the pink giant. In the future, I also want to try the White and Black Bull Heart.
The Oxheart tomato is one of my favorites. The fruits are large, sweet, ideal for salads and preparations. Due to the climatic conditions of the region, I grow tomatoes in a greenhouse. The only drawback of this tomato is that when planted in open ground, the fruits do not grow very large. And so, additional care always meets expectations - in the greenhouse, the harvest is always excellent.
