Tomato variety Irish liqueur
There are not so many green varieties of tomatoes. And most gardeners are wary of them. A green fruit hangs on a bush, and whether it is ripe or not, who knows. But a real tomato grower must try all varieties, so let's get acquainted with a very unusual tomato - Irish Liqueur, or Irish Liqueur. It is not listed in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia, and for many gardeners it is still exotic. The culture is quite thermophilic, therefore it is recommended for protected ground. Not a hybrid.
Description
The plant is indeterminate, but not too tall, the maximum height is about 1.5 meters. Strong bush, but not spreading. Shoot formation and leafiness are moderate. Leaves of the usual type, slightly wrinkled, medium-sized, light green. The first fruit cluster is laid over 8 - 9 leaves. Each cluster has 3 - 5 ovaries.
Fruits are flat-round, slightly flattened at the top and base, slightly ribbed, with cheeks. The skin is firm but not hard. An unripe tomato is rich green, when ripe it becomes a dull green color. The fact that the tomato is fully ripe will be indicated by the appearance of a yellowish tint and the presence of blurred stripes. The fruit becomes softer to the touch. The pulp is of a delicate consistency, but quite dense, juicy, fleshy. The taste is excellent, sweet, harmonious. The usual acid is absent, so green tomatoes can be consumed by people with gout and sore joints. There are 6 seed chambers, they are small, located closer to the walls of the fruit, there are few seeds. The mass of tomatoes is 200 - 400 grams.
Characteristics
- Irish liqueur belongs to the medium early varieties. Ripening begins 115 days after germination. The first crop in the greenhouse, under favorable conditions, ripens in early July. Fruiting lasts until the onset of cold weather;
- the yield is average, which is noted in many sources and is confirmed by vegetable growers. With good agricultural technology, 4.5 kg of fruits are removed from 1 square meter. True, there are other facts indicating that more than 80 tomatoes have ripened on one bush, and if you take the minimum weight of 200 grams, the result will be impressive. But this is most likely the exception to the rule;
- in extreme heat, there may be a break in fruit formation;
- there is no specific information on immunity. According to reviews, the plant is resistant to many diseases, but it can suffer from late blight;
- fruits are not prone to cracking;
- Irish liqueur does not differ in transportability; during long-term transportation, dents may appear in the fruit. The keeping quality of the variety is low; during storage, the pulp softens;
- way of consumption - salad. You can, of course, start up the harvest for processing, the taste of the juice and pasta will be excellent. But here's the color, as they say, for an amateur.
Agrotechnics
For seedlings, seeds are sown in the second half of March. Young plants are transplanted into an unheated greenhouse after 60 - 65 days. The recommended planting density of tomatoes is 3 pieces per 1 square meter. Bushes are tied up, pinching is carried out as needed. The hands also need tying during the ripening period. Our hero shows excellent results when forming in 2 - 3 stems. Agricultural technology is simple, but there are nuances. The culture does not tolerate waterlogging, the soil should be moderately moist, especially during the ripening period of the crop. Top dressing is carried out with organic matter and mineral fertilizers, but you should not get carried away with nitrogen. For the fruits to ripen faster, you need to remove the leaves under the lower brushes.
Irish liqueur is often compared to a similar variety, the Malachite Box. And although our hero is slightly inferior to her in large-fruited, in the opinion of many, he still surpasses in taste. The described variety belongs to those crops that require attention. In addition to garter and shaping, the plant will need preventive treatments against diseases and pests.But the care will pay off in full with the harvest of unusual tomatoes, the appearance and taste of which you can pleasantly surprise your family and friends. If you have a desire to preserve the culture in your collection of unusual tomatoes, you can always collect the seeds yourself.
I was always wary of green-fruited tomatoes - I love bright tomatoes, and these fruits did not make me hungry. But once a neighbor shared the seedlings - she had a little left, do not throw it away ..., I had to plant it, which I have never regretted. The variety turned out to be not at all problematic: it firmly endures both hot summer, and torrential rains, which sometimes we have, is not noticed in diseases - even phytophthora bypasses it, the harvest has time to give up before the onset of cold nights. Tomatoes are medium in size (up to 200 g), but they are "liquid" and heavy. The tomatoes taste juicy, the pulp is jelly-like, tasty, and to determine ripeness, you just need to touch the fruit - in full ripeness it becomes soft.
One of my favorite tomato varieties! I first met him when I lived in Canada, in Toronto, in 2014. The seeds were sent to me by a friend from Russia. I put him in boxes of 50 liters on the balcony. There were two roots in the box. It bore fruit well and for a long time, until the very frosts everything bloomed and bloomed. It was led in two stems, there were 7 brushes on each stem, in a bunch of up to 5 fruits. When I posted a photo of this variety on the forums, no one believed that it was possible to grow an indeterminate tomato in a box. The fruits were an average of 150 grams, ripe green with a slight yellowness, the taste is sweet, aromatic, sugar at the break, not watery, there are few seeds. I was not sick with anything, there were no problems with this variety at all. I made juice, seasoning from it, and ate it in salads. But most of all I enjoyed eating it without anything, just like a fruit. Then we left for Kyrgyzstan. I planted this variety in the past 2018. I was not sure how it would behave in such a hot southern climate, because it is cold in Russia and it was cold in Canada. But my fears were in vain. Grew up and filled up with fruits! True, now she led him into three stems, and did not remove the leaves at all, he himself created his own microclimate. The fruits were larger, 200-250 grams, but there was a lot of sun. In this variety, I'm sure, he settled in my garden forever. Perfectly adapts and adapts to any conditions. Always fruitful and disease resistant.
