Tomato variety Koenigsberg
Siberian breeder V.N. Dederko is well known to Russian gardeners. Thanks to his work, wonderful varieties of tomatoes were born. Among them is Konigsberg, who conquered by its characteristics. An application for its registration was filed in 2003, and it was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation almost 2 years later - in 2005. Approved for cultivation in all regions of Russia. Recommended for garden plots, home gardens and small farms. Suitable for cultivation in the open field, but also shows good results in the greenhouse. Not a hybrid.
Description
The plant is indeterminate, up to 2 meters high. The stem is strong, the foliage is moderate. Potato-type leaves, light green, alternate, pubescent, drooping. Stem and shoots are slightly pubescent. The root system is quite powerful, going into the deep layers of the earth. Yellow flowers are collected in simple inflorescences. The first fruit cluster is laid over the 12th leaf, the subsequent ones - every 3 leaves. Each brush has 3 - 6 ovaries. The peduncle is articulated.
The fruits of Konigsberg are described as pepper-shaped, resembling an elongated eggplant, but it is best to refer to the State Register of Varieties of the Russian Federation, where the cylindrical shape is indicated. The top of the tomato is slightly elongated. The surface of the fruit is smooth, the skin is smooth and shiny, and sufficiently strong. An unripe tomato has a light green color, without a dark spot at the stalk, a ripe tomato has an even bright red color. Basically, the weight ranges from 155 to 230 grams, but sometimes 300 grams are found. The pulp is moderately dense, juicy, but not watery, fleshy, low-seeded, the number of nests - 3 - 4. Excellent taste. The pulp is sweet and sour, aromatic.
Characteristics
- Being mid-season, Königsberg ripens 110 - 115 days after germination;
- The marketable yield of the variety is excellent - according to the State Register, it ranges from 4.6 to 20.0 kg per 1 square meter. Gardeners on the forums measure the yield in buckets - from 2 to 3 per bush;
- tomato has high resistance to the main diseases of nightshade and pests;
- the yield of mature marketable fruits in the Novosibirsk region is 56%;
- the plant has good resistance to temperature extremes, is heat-resistant, sets fruit even in cool weather;
- ripe tomatoes are resistant to cracking;
- the fruiting period of Konigsberg is stretched, the harvest ripens until the very frost, so the plant must be limited in growth in time so that the formed ovaries can ripen;
- high-quality fruits can be transported over a long distance, they tolerate storage well;
- the purpose of tomatoes is universal. Most often, the crop is consumed in its natural form and in salads, but it can be used for processing into tomato products and canning in pieces. The fruits have excellent pickling qualities.
Agrotechnics
Even in the southern regions, it is recommended to grow Königsberg using the seedling method. Sowing seeds is carried out 60 - 65 days before transplanting to a permanent place, the calculation of the sowing time is carried out taking into account the climatic characteristics of the region. For example, in the central zone of Russia, this process can begin in late March - early April. The pick is carried out in the phase of 2 true leaves. Despite the fact that the variety is acclimatized in the West Siberian region, the seedlings, in the event of recurrent frosts, should be covered with a film cover until they fully take root. Planting density - 3 plants per 1 square meter. After planting with tying a bush, you should not tighten it. In the open field, tomato growth is limited after the formation of 5 - 6 inflorescences (the shorter the summer period, the fewer brushes you need to leave), in closed - after 8. It can be formed into 1 or 2 stems, removing all unnecessary stepsons. Watering should be good, but not excessive. It is best to use a drip irrigation system for humidification. The culture is responsive to universal fertilizers.
Varieties
The main variety has equally popular varieties. Perhaps the most famous - Koenigsberg golden, but the rest have no less remarkable characteristics.
Pink new - this subspecies appeared recently, is mid-season in terms of ripening. The plant is indeterminate, with a height of 1.5 to 1.8 meters, requiring a garter and shaping. With their elongated shape, tomatoes resemble peppers, they are even, dense, with a strong skin. The color is pink. Weight up to 200 grams. The elongated shape and overall low weight make tomatoes very convenient for whole canning. The yield of this variety is excellent, there is resistance to major diseases.
Striped - This subspecies of Konigsberg has a unique color. In a ripe state, the fruits are colored red, the integumentary color is present in the form of yellow stripes. The average weight of a tomato is about 200 grams. The yield is excellent, the plant forms many ovaries. The taste is excellent. Tomatoes are used in their natural form, suitable for canning.
Cordate - this variety is distinguished by the large size of the fruits, their average weight is from 500 to 700 grams, but almost kilogram specimens can grow. The shape of the tomatoes is heart-shaped, the top is slightly elongated. The skin is smooth, shiny, pink in color. The pulp is moderately firm, very fleshy, juicy, sweet. Tomatoes are used fresh and for canning. The plant is indeterminate, almost 2 m high. It is highly resistant to diseases, not afraid of temperature fluctuations.
The cultivation of all the listed subspecies does not have any peculiarities. Agricultural technology is similar to the main variety.
Konigsberg is a unique tomato with many advantages. The gardener is attracted by excellent yield with relatively light agricultural technology. The high adaptability makes it possible to grow tomatoes outdoors, even in regions with short and cool summers. Thanks to the existing varieties, it becomes possible to create a whole collection of plants with different fruit colors and some nuances in taste. And it is easy to propagate your favorite varieties by independently collecting seeds from them.
A good variety, I have been growing for several years, so far I have never let it down. Of course, due to the fact that the bushes are very tall, you have to suffer with a garter, otherwise it is very unpretentious. I plant only in open ground, in well-fertilized soil, be sure to stepchild. In our zone, they begin to sing around the middle of July, they go well for salads and for canning. 2 - 3 buckets from a bush, this, of course, is too much, but I definitely collect about a bucket. The tomatoes themselves are dense with sugar pulp. I collect it for a long time, it happens that in September green ones still hang on the bushes. I collect them and ripen them at home.
Nice tomatoes. They also like the fact that the skin of a ripe tomato can be easily removed without boiling water. On the street, they grow larger than in the greenhouse.
