Tomato variety Cornabel (F1)
The French company Vilmorin, founded a long time ago - in 1743, is a major player in the tomato market. The hybrids she creates are becoming very popular among gardeners around the world. One of the new products from this company is a variety called Cornabel. It is a hybrid representing the Cornue des Andes cultivar, or Horn of the Andes. No other tomato hybrid in the world has such a unique set of fruit characteristics. In France, our hero is incredibly popular with consumers and culinary specialists. It is not included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia, but many people in the country know about it, and not only by hearsay. The variety is successfully grown in open and closed ground, so the crop can be harvested in almost every region. True, the southern regions are more suitable for cultivation in the open field. Vegetable growers rejoice not only in the external data of this vegetable, the taste and yield are also excellent. The belonging of Kornabel to hybrids is confirmed by the F1 marking.
Description
The plant is indeterminate, with good vigor, from 1.5 meters in height. On the street, a tomato can grow up to 80 cm, and in a greenhouse it grows more than 2.5 meters. The plant habit is powerful, the root system is well developed. Shoot-forming ability is weak, leafiness is moderate. The type of bush is open, due to which the fruits and leaf apparatus receive a sufficient amount of light. The leaves of the variety are of the usual type, medium size, rich green color, the surface is slightly wrinkled. The type of fruiting is carpal. The type of inflorescence is intermediate. The inflorescences are laid like a regular indent. About 4 - 5 brushes can form on the central stem. Fruit raceme is short, dense, up to 7 ovaries are formed on it. If formed correctly, up to 50 tomatoes can ripen on one bush. Cornabel's peduncle is articulated.
If you look at the plant from afar, you get the impression that peppers grow on a tall bush, and large ones at that. The fruits of the variety are really unusual, elongated (up to 15 cm long), stretching towards the top, with a pointed nose. It is this shape that is considered to be corneal. The tomato cannot be called perfectly even, it is rather a little asymmetrical, a slight folding can be observed near the stalk. The skin is glossy, dense, but not hard, it is practically not felt during use, moreover, it is removed quite easily. Unripe tomato is light green. Ripening starts from the top, and at the end of the process the tomato is evenly colored red.
The pulp of this variety has an amazing consistency due to its exceptionally high dry matter content. It is very fleshy, sugary, dense, but tender, does not flow down in the cut. The scent is wonderful. Cornabel belongs to the so-called sugar line. It includes tomatoes with the most delicate consistency. Taste qualities, without exaggeration, are excellent, despite the belonging of the variety to hybrids. Many gardeners say that our hero tastes even better than the famous San Marzano. The taste is sweet, almost no sourness is felt. There are few seed chambers, and there are few seeds themselves. The average fruit weight is 150-200 grams. But if the brush is properly normalized (leaving no more than 2 ovaries), then you can get tomatoes weighing 300 and even 500 grams. At the same time, some tomato growers note that the shape of a large fruit resembles a heart-shaped rather than a pepper-shaped one.
Characteristics
- Cornabel is a mid-season variety. The harvest begins to ripen in 55 - 60 days after planting the seedlings in a permanent place. Of course, in order to judge the rate of ripening of tomatoes, the climatic factor should be taken into account;
- vegetable growers note the high productivity of the variety.This is due not only to the carpal type of fruiting, the plant forms inflorescences during the entire growing season, and it can last until the very cold. From one square meter, the yield is up to 8 kg. According to other sources, with proper agricultural technology, up to 5 kg can be removed from one plant;
- our hero's immunity is very good. This is due not only to genetics, but also to the endurance of the plant, the open type of bush, which promotes good ventilation. Taken together, it provides high tomato resistance to tobacco mosaic virus, verticillosis and fusarium wilt. Cornabel fruits are resistant to top rot;
- strong skin is a reliable barrier to cracking, which fleshy fruits often sin;
- during the cultivation period, the variety showed high resistance to various negative climatic manifestations. The reliability of the variety, which is able to provide a crop even under the most unfavorable weather forecasts, is noted;
- growing in cooler regions is often complicated by a short growing season, during which the resulting tomato crop does not have time to fully ripen. Therefore, tomato growers in the middle of a short summer pinch the main shoot, leaving a maximum of 8 fruit brushes on the bush. In addition, with the beginning of fruiting, the lower leaves are removed about once a week - but no more than 3 pieces at a time. If, nevertheless, with the arrival of cold weather, unripe tomatoes remained, it does not matter, they will ripen perfectly at home;
- good indicators of transportability are possible due to the dense consistency and strong skin of the fruit. The Cornabel crop can withstand long-term transportation, while the tomatoes do not lose their presentation, do not suffer much even from mechanical damage;
- keeping quality subject to storage standards is very good;
- the way of use is universal. Tomatoes are used in their natural form, in salads, they even make sandwiches. They are also used in cooking, for preparing vegetable or meat dishes. The small size of the fruit is excellent for whole-fruit canning, since the skin can withstand heat treatment. And, of course, the harvest of this variety produces excellent quality tomato products, especially pasta, sauce and mashed potatoes.
Agrotechnics
It is quite difficult to acquire seed material, therefore it is recommended to grow the precious Cornabel using seedlings. For reference, in the Moscow region, the sowing period falls on the first ten days of March. To make the seedlings stronger, treat the seeds before sowing. Germination takes place at a temperature not lower than 20 ° C. Watering is carried out carefully, at the root, so as not to wet the leaves and not provoke fungal diseases. A hardened seedling is ready for transplantation, which has at least 4 - 5 true leaves. By the time of disembarkation, the threat of return frosts should have already passed. The variety shows the best results when formed in one stem. But in the open field, the tomato can be grown in 2 stems. Like any indent, our hero will not be able to grow without support, so a garter is carried out a few days after planting the seedlings.
The end result will depend on the agricultural technique. Watering should be sufficient, but not excessive. The best way is drip, it will keep the soil in a moderately moist state. A large crop load must be supported by timely fertilization. In the process of growth, you need to pay attention to the foliage, which will tell you which trace element is missing in the soil. A quick way to deliver the missing element is foliar feeding. In order to accumulate more sugars in tomatoes, plant plants in sunny areas.
The Cornabel hybrid is an amazing crop that many tomato growers have included in the top varieties for mandatory cultivation.Good yield in any weather, high immunity, unusual shape of fruits, and most importantly, taste that surpasses even varietal crops - these are the indisputable advantages of our hero. The weight of the fruits is quite satisfactory, but if you want, you can grow large specimens by standardizing the brush. The downside is the need for a garter and the formation of a tomato. In addition, the plant needs proper agricultural technology. But the biggest drawback is the inability to grow a plant repeating the successes of the parent from independently collected seeds. At the same time, it is not so easy to acquire seed material, and for the desired bag with a small amount of Cornabel seeds you will have to pay a pretty decent amount.
I chased the seeds of this hybrid for a very long time - I read a lot and heard plenty of praise, but I had no luck - I came across a continuous re-sort (there are a lot of advertisements - the sellers are trying to cash in). But still I was lucky - I bought the seeds. Tomatoes really grow in an interesting shape, the colors are bright, and the taste disappointed me - the fruits are hard, there is little juice, the peel is dense. The weight of the fruits was also not pleasing, and if you normalize the amount of ovary, then the yield is absolutely none. This tomato, in my opinion, has one plus - the fruits are stored for a very long time.
