Tomato variety Honey drop
Yellow-fruited tomatoes always look very elegant and optimistic. The variety called Honey Drop is no exception. The name is fully consistent with the appearance, tomatoes really look like small yellow droplets, contrasting against the background of green foliage. Our hero is grown throughout Russia, suitable for open and closed ground. The variety belongs to the cherry group, a feature of which is the small size of the fruits. The variety is not included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation, but it is quite popular among gardeners.
Description
The plant is indeterminate, very tall. In the open field, the growth reaches 1.5 meters, and in protected ground, the height can reach up to 2.5 meters. The stem is powerful, pubescent. Medium leafy bush. The leaves are alternate, large, of a potato type, the edge is sparsely toothed, the surface is dull, slightly wrinkled. A Honeydrop flower brush with a simple shape, containing up to 15 ovaries. Fruit brushes can be from 9 to 12 pieces.
Fruits are drop-shaped or pear-shaped, with a smooth surface. They are often called light bulbs by the people. Belonging to the cherry determines the small size of the tomato, the average weight is 20 grams, but sometimes "large-carpets" weighing as much as 30 grams are formed. The skin is firm, slightly shiny. During ripeness it becomes bright yellow. The pulp is juicy, of medium density, with a delicate tomato aroma. The taste is excellent, sweet, with a light honey aftertaste. It is thanks to the honey flavor, and not because of the color, that the variety got its name. Children like it very much.
Characteristics
- The tomato is medium early, from the moment of germination to the beginning of fruiting, 100 - 110 days pass;
- ripening in the brush occurs unevenly - first, the fruits located at the top of the brush ripen, then the rest;
- the fruiting period for Honey Drop is long, until the very frost;
- a tall and prolific variety with a good yield - 6 - 7 kg per 1 square meter;
- the crop must be harvested on time, otherwise overripe fruits may burst;

- good immunity - the plant successfully resists the black leg and phytophthora;
- the transportability of fruits is at a high level;
- keeping quality, subject to certain standards, is excellent - tomatoes can be stored for several weeks without losing their taste at all;
- when ripening, tomatoes do not acquire the intended taste;
- the method of using the fruits of the Honey Drop is universal. Sweet small tomatoes can be eaten in their natural form, they look very beneficial in summer salads or as a decoration for ready-made snacks. Suitable for pickling, pickling, whole canning, where they look especially attractive against the background of colorful vegetables.
Agrotechnics
Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out depending on the climate of the region - in warm areas from mid to late February, in cool areas - in early March. The seeding depth of seeds is no more than 2 cm. According to reviews, the seeds have an excellent germination rate - 96%. Seasoned seedlings are planted in a permanent place in May - June. Planting scheme: between plants in a row at least 40 cm, row spacing - 70 cm. Tall and spreading tomatoes do not tolerate thickening, so do not spare space for them. Bushes are tied to a support early, without waiting for them to grow too much.
In the open field, the variety is usually formed into 2 stems. But in a greenhouse, it can be grown in 3 or 4 stems.Due to the increased shoot formation, it is necessary to carry out pinching. In the greenhouse, you need to change the soil to a new, nutritious one every year. If the humidity is high, and the thickening is large, it is imperative to carry out treatment for late blight.
The honey drop has earned well-deserved success due to its unpretentiousness, productivity and unusual tomatoes - brightly colored and very tasty.
The honey drop refers to cherry tomatoes. The bushes are low, decorative, I grow them in containers (I have plastic buckets of different colors, 7 or 10 liters). The fruit is shaped like a drop, with a bright yellow color. Sweet, it is not for nothing that they have such a name - passing by you will definitely pick a tomato. Delicious in marinades, together with reds they look beautiful. I sow for seedlings a little later than tall ones. If the spring is warm, then I dive right into containers, in which they will continue to grow, and put them in the greenhouse, and when it gets completely warmer - in the open air. Top dressing is usual, I prefer herbal fertilizer, ash. If a cold snap is expected, I bring it into the house or greenhouse, it is not too difficult in buckets. For balcony culture, Honey Drop is perfect.
