Surprisingly, a powerful plant with huge fruits can develop from a tiny tomato seed. Such as, for example, Baba Rum. This unusual culture was created by Agrofirma Aelita LLC. The application for registration of the novelty was submitted in 2013, and after 2 years the variety was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia and received permission to cultivate in all regions. This giant grows well in the open ground of the southern regions of Russia, but in the middle lane and in cooler regions, it is advisable to cultivate it in protected ground. The tomato is not a hybrid.

Description

The plant is indeterminate, with unlimited growth. The greenhouse complex can grow from 2 to 3 meters in height. But in the open field it will be almost half. The foliage is good. Leaves are medium in size, green, slightly wrinkled. The inflorescences are intermediate. The first fruit cluster is laid rather low, above the 6th leaf, and then it is formed every 2 - 3 leaves. Each brush contains 4 to 5 large fruits. The peduncle is articulated.

Baba fruits have an unusual appearance. They are flat-rounded in shape, slightly ribbed, rather dense. The skin is thin, but firm, slightly shiny, it is separated from a ripe tomato quite easily. The color of an unripe tomato is light green, with a darker spot at the stalk. When ripe, it turns into an unusual color for the culture - yellowish-green. If you do not know the varietal color, you can wait a long time when, finally, the tomato ripens. The pulp is also colored in unusual tones, even at the period of consumer ripeness it is light green or emerald green, like an unripe tomato. At the same time, it is very juicy, of delicate consistency, does not flow down in a sliced ​​form. The variety has excellent taste, thanks to the harmonious combination of sweetness and sourness. Excellent taste and fresh aroma, similar to melon, give our hero a resemblance to an exotic fruit. There are many seed chambers - more than 6, but they are small. The fruits are quite large, the State Register reports a mass of 150-200 grams, the originators declare larger specimens weighing 250-350 grams, and the first fruits can easily gain a mass of 600 grams.

Our hero not only has an exotic look, tomato is also good for health, as it contains a lot of beta-carotene. In addition, the pulp does not contain allergens, so both children and adults who are allergic to red tomatoes can eat it without fear.

Characteristics

• Baba is a mid-season crop. Tomatoes of unusual color ripen 110 - 115 days after full sprouting. The tall plant has a long fruiting period, the harvest is harvested from July to September;
• the yield of marketable fruits is very good. The State Register provides data on 6.8 - 8.0 kg per 1 square meter, and the originator promises up to 11 kg from the same area, subject to good agricultural technology;
• adaptive qualities are high. The plant is able to set fruits, despite the cold snap (however, it can withstand only short-term drops in temperature);

• tomato is distinguished by good heat resistance, which in the conditions of the southern region is a very valuable quality, since many varieties simply stop forming ovaries during periods of high temperatures;
• tomatoes are practically not susceptible to cracking, which is a rare exception for large carpets;
• our hero's immunity is all right. Among the new products, it is called one of the most resistant to major diseases. However, in the State Register there is no data on its stability;
• the crop tolerates transportation well, has an average keeping quality;
• you can use the harvested large tomatoes in different ways. First of all, the vegetable is intended for use in its natural form, for preparing summer salads. But it is also suitable for processing - juice, sauces, although they have an unusual color, but they taste wonderful.

Agrotechnics

Baba is grown in seedlings.It is better to determine the time of sowing tomato seeds independently in order to take into account the characteristics of the region and the method of cultivation. For example, in central Russia, sowing can be done in early March. In phase 1 - 2 of these leaves, a pick is required. Seedlings are ready for transplanting at the age of 60 - 65 days. The recommended planting density is 3 - 4 bushes per 1 square meter. A tall plant needs a garter, in the open field it can be grown as a stake crop. Heavy fruit clusters will also need a garter, otherwise they may not support the weight. In order for the variety to demonstrate the best results, the bush is formed into 1 - 2 stems. Grasshopping is a mandatory procedure; all growing lateral shoots must be removed. Agricultural technology is common for the culture as a whole. The main thing to remember is that during the ripening period of tomatoes, watering is somewhat limited. Top dressing can combine mineral fertilizers and organic matter.

Rum Baba is a novelty, and for sure, not every vegetable grower has heard of it. At first glance, the fruits are not remarkable in anything (except for a large size), the color, let's say, is not for everybody. But if you try this unusual tomato, its taste will undoubtedly please. In care, the variety is unpretentious, patient, and also resistant to disease. And if you follow simple agricultural techniques, then the harvest will delight even the fastidious gardener. Thanks to these qualities, many tomato growers add the name of our hero to the list of crops that must be planted. Of course, in the process of growing, you will have to tinker with the garter and pinching, but this is the only minus of the variety. In addition, the seeds can always be harvested by yourself.
