Tomato variety Sprut (F1)

It is already difficult to surprise anyone with tall tomatoes. How do you like the tomato tree? Sounds somewhat intriguing. However, there are such plants, and one of them is called the Octopus. An application for its registration in 2001 was submitted by "Agrofirma SeDeK". In 2007, this unusual culture was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation with admission in all regions of Russia. Recommended for personal subsidiary plots. Well suited for winter-spring and extended circulation in industrial winter and spring foil greenhouses. In the southern regions, this tomato can be grown outdoors. It is a hybrid, therefore it must be labeled F1.

On sale you can find seeds Octopus cream F1. But this is a completely different variety with different characteristics.

Description

The size of this indeterminate plant is amazing. The height of the bush exceeds 2.5 meters, and in a heated greenhouse with the extended technology, the tomato grows to a fantastic 6 meters. In terms of area, the plant can spread over 2.5 square meters, and according to reviews, all 4. For such a spreading variety, the variety got its name. The plant is very vigorous with a well-developed root system. The foliage is dense. The leaf plate is large, dark green. The internodes are long. Shoot-forming ability is high. Octopus is a carpal tomato, has simple-type inflorescences. The peduncle is articulated. The number of fruit clusters set depends on the methods of plant formation. If the size of the greenhouse hinders growth, then inflorescences are tied from 7 to 12. In a professional greenhouse, the miracle tree will form from 15 to 40 inflorescences (and even more), which are laid every 3 leaves. Each brush will contain 5 - 6 tomatoes.

The Octopus fruits are aligned, rounded, with a small depression at the top, dense and fleshy, 6 - 7 cm in diameter, weighing 100 - 160 grams. Unripe tomato is light green, without a spot at the stalk. Ripe is filled with an even red color. The skin is smooth, shiny, thick. The pulp of the variety is juicy, the seed chambers are from 4 to 6. The taste is excellent, sweetness prevails, the sourness is barely noticeable. But some gardeners point to mediocre taste.

Characteristics

  • Octopus belongs to the mid-season species, the period from full sprouting to the beginning of ripening takes 115 - 120 days;
  • the yield of tomato is good, however, information about it differs somewhat, but there is an explanation for this. The originator claims 34 - 38 kg per 1 square meter, these are the results that are possible with an extended turnover. In the State Register of Plants of the Russian Federation, other figures are indicated - 6.9 kg 1 sq. meter, the variety shows such a yield with the usual method of cultivation. But the members of the forum are completely ambiguous in assessing the fertility of a culture, but in its defense, we can say that the yield indicator directly depends on the method and conditions of growing. Of course, 1500 kg and 14,000 fruits, as indicated on the seed bag, cannot be obtained under normal conditions;
  • the yield period is long. This unusual plant can be grown for 1.5 years. Naturally, in production greenhouses and subject to special technologies. In a film greenhouse, it will bear fruit before the start of cold snaps;
  • Octopus is very plastic, perfectly adapts to the environment. Not afraid of high humidity, cold and heat resistant;
  • the immunity of the variety is excellent, it successfully resists the tobacco mosaic virus, fusarium wilting, late blight, verticillosis, root and apical rot, drying;

  • dense skin protects tomatoes from cracking, increases portability and contributes to good keeping quality;
  • the way of eating fruits is universal. Tomatoes are suitable for salads, they are good in preservation (the skin does not burst), they can be frozen or processed into tomato products.

Agrotechnics

The Octopus is planted by the seedling method. Seeds are sown in mid-February, seedlings must dive.In order for the seedlings not to stretch, they must be supplemented by placing the seedlings under phytolamps or fluorescent lamps. After 50 - 60 days, the hardened seedlings are planted in a permanent place. If this is an open bed, then a film cover must be installed above it, which will give the tomatoes the opportunity to take root.

In order not to grow the usual indeterminant, which will not even close to the declared characteristics, you will have to work hard.

  • The place for planting the variety must be prepared in advance. The soil must be loose and nutritious.
  • Support is another prerequisite.
  • When planting, it should be borne in mind that a branchy tomato bush grows strongly and takes up a lot of space.
  • A pleasant surprise for the gardener - in order for the plant to take on the shape of a tree, the stepsons do not need to be removed. It turns out that the Octopus bush forms itself.
  • After removing the ripe fruit cluster, the leaves located under it must be removed so that they do not draw on food.
  • Pruning and tying tomatoes should be done in good weather, after 2 pm. It is at this time that the main lash becomes the most elastic and does not break.
  • Watering is carried out plentiful, top dressing is required every 10 days. But, according to reviews, excessive moisture can provoke cracking of the fruits on the lower brushes.
  • The temperature in the greenhouse at night should not drop below 17 ° C. On a cloudy day, the thermometer should be kept at around 20 - 22 ° C, in sunny weather - preferably no higher than 25 ° C.

Many people try to grow an octopus tree in a regular iron barrel and fail. Do not forget that the root system of this variety is wide-spreading and requires a lot of space. And the "tree" itself is grown for more than one season.

You will not get the miracle tree that advertising promises. This requires special technologies - hydroponics, special nutrient solutions, maintaining the required temperature and humidity for almost 2 years. But you can still get closer to the ideal and surprise your neighbors.

Octopus is an excellent variety for those who are not afraid of difficulties and like to experiment. Tomato in the right hands really shows excellent results in terms of yield. In addition, it does not get sick, which greatly simplifies care. Tomatoes can be eaten for quite a long time, taking into account the long fruiting period and high keeping quality. And if you wish, you can successfully stock up on conservation for the whole winter.

I always dreamed of growing a tomato tree, but, apparently, something went wrong. I bought seeds, grew seedlings, nurtured and cherished. I planted it in a well-fertilized soil and covered it with hay. At first it grew well, then it reached 1.5 m and stopped growing. It formed three stems, but it didn't look like a "tree" at all. The yield also did not please, I will not say for sure, but there was a little tomato of medium size and the most ordinary taste. I planted only one bush, maybe I got some bad seed, but I'm not happy yet.

Bought seeds late. Anyway, at the end of April, she planted them in a greenhouse, the seedlings grew quickly, caught up with the rest of the early planted varieties. I planted four of them and just forgot about them. A huge heap grew and was covered in tomatoes, like grapes hanging around in handfuls.
