Tomato variety Yubileiny Tarasenko
After all, as it happens in life, a person is engaged in the exact sciences, and in his free time he creates amazing varieties of tomatoes, which have enjoyed constant success among gardeners for many decades. In 1978, an amateur breeder from Ukraine Feodosiy Tarasenko (a physics teacher by education, but a real breeder by vocation) created an amazing tomato, which was named Jubilee Tarasenko. Coincidentally, the novelty appeared in the year the author celebrated his 75th anniversary, hence the name. As the parental lines, the amateur breeder used the Hybrid 1 and Hybrid 2 developed by him. The old Mexican variety San Marzano also took part in the creation of the novelty. He served as a donor against fungal and viral diseases. The mother was Hybrid 1, whose flowers were pollinated with a mixture of Hybrid 2 and San Marzano pollen. All parents have high growth and excellent yields, so the new variety turned out to be powerful and productive. The new tomato was so good that it quickly registered in the garden beds of the republics of the then unified USSR.
It is a pity, but this really worthy tomato is not included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia. It is very difficult to purchase seeds, mainly seed material is sold by amateurs and several agricultural firms, including Aelita and SeDeK. Due to the fact that it is difficult to find an official description of the plant, confusion and over-grading often occurs. To find out what the variety should actually look like, let's use the description of the author himself.
Description
The plant is indeterminate, tall. Often the height of the main stem reaches 3 meters. The author himself calls the Jubilee Tarasenko and similar varieties liana-like. The breeder notes that such crops are favorably distinguished by a prolonged fruiting period, yield, high taste and disease resistance. The stem of our hero is quite powerful, the internodes are long, the foliage is weak. The tomato inflorescence is complex, fan-shaped. At the time of flowering, the plant looks amazingly beautiful, it seems just strewn with yellow flowers, collected in large inflorescences. The first fruit cluster is laid rather low, above 3 - 4 leaves, sometimes it happens that the second is formed after the first. But most often, subsequent inflorescences are formed after 1 - 2 leaves. By the end of the season, the main stem usually has 4 to 5 long, cluster-like fruit clusters. The inflorescence consists of a huge number of flowers - 300 and even more. But the ovaries in them are not formed at the same time and not all are able to form into fruits. The very first ovaries in the inflorescence are formed in the center, and then the fruit sets on the periphery. The first bunches can weigh up to 4, - 4.5 kg. As tomato growers write, a brush of this variety can consist of 40 tomatoes. And up to 6 - 7 flower brushes are formed on the stem.
Other sources supplement the description of the plant with the presence of a powerful root system, which is able to provide a large bush with food during the growth and ripening of the crop. The leaves of Jubilee Tarasenko are large, dark green.
Confusion often occurs with the description of fruits. Ripe tomatoes from different seed producers are described differently. So, "SeDeK" characterizes tomatoes as round-plum with a spout, other descriptions claim that the shape is heart-shaped or round-ovate with a spout. Yes, and there are discrepancies in weight. Some tomato growers often say that the fruits of Yubileiny Tarasenko are rather small - about 60 - 80 grams.
But this is how the author of the variety himself describes the tomatoes. Fruits in one cluster can be round or flat-round, but almost all of the same weight - 180-200 grams.The largest ones have a slight ribbing in the region of the peduncle, and the apex is slightly drawn back and resembles a small spout. Fleshy tomatoes, contain a large amount of dry matter, multi-chamber - 6 - 8 nests. Ripe fruits are orange-red in color. It is also worth noting that the inside of the tomato is without voids and white veins. The author himself assesses the taste of ripe fruits as good.
Characteristics
- In terms of ripening, Yubileiny Tarasenko is a mid-season. The harvesting period for the first ripe tomatoes is different - from 105 - 115 days to 120 days. This is not surprising, because the cultivation geography of the variety is very wide;
- the yield at the carpal type of fruiting is fantastic. According to the author, on average, 14 - 17 kg are removed from one plant (but it is recommended to leave no more than 5 - 6 inflorescences on the stem). Tomato growers who grow a crop call higher numbers - up to 20 or more kilograms per plant;
- excellent adaptability of the variety, the ability to tolerate low temperatures well is the key to good fruiting, regardless of the climate. Therefore, this tomato is found not only in the southern beds, but in cool regions, moreover, in the open field;
- from the parents to our hero at the genetic level, good immunity was transmitted, which is expressed in resistance to late blight and brown leaf spot;
- strong skin protects the fruits of the Jubilee Tarasenko from cracking;
- a feature of the variety is the uneven ripening of fruits in a bunch. While some are already fully ripe, others are at the stage of blanche ripeness, and still others are just pouring. Of course, such non-simultaneous ripening in a massive brush brings some inconvenience, and novice gardeners are at a loss. What to do - wait until the whole bunch is ripe, remove the fruits one by one or with the whole brush? Feodosiy Makarovich advises not to expect full ripening of the fruits in the brush, but to remove them when most of the tomatoes are at the stage of blanche ripeness. Thus, you redirect the flow of nutrients to the tomatoes that are still pouring and accelerate their ripening;
- the fruits of Jubilee Tarasenko plucked at the stage of blanche ripeness are perfectly ripened at home;
- transportability can be called good, but the protruding nose may wrinkle in ripe fruits. Therefore, when laying the crop for transportation, this fact should be taken into account;
- keeping quality is remarkable. Within one or one and a half months, tomatoes retain their commercial qualities;
- the way of use is universal. The fruits of this variety are perfect for making salads, as well as for canning whole fruits.
Agrotechnics
For an unusual culture and agricultural technology, a non-standard one is needed. Again, we turn to the author for advice. It is better to grow Jubilee Tarasenko in a seedling way. Suitable for planting tomato seedlings at the age of two months. Before planting it, you need to prepare a site. Pits 50 × 50 cm in size and 40 cm deep are dug. The distance between the pits in the center is 1 meter. The pit is filled with a mixture of fertilizers (2 buckets of humus, 2 - 4 glasses of wood ash, 50 grams of complex mineral fertilizer) mixed with the upper fertile soil. 2 plants are planted in each pit by transshipment (or in peat pots, so as not to disturb the root system). After this, the seedlings are watered abundantly. Form a variety into 2 stems. The stepsons are removed as soon as they grow back to 3 to 4 centimeters in length. In the second half of July, when the length of the stem has reached 2.5 - 3.0 meters, the shoots are pinched.
The author of Jubilee Tarasenko points out the importance of crop rationing. If you leave all the brushes, and there will be 8-10 of them on two shoots, not all tomatoes will be able to ripen by the beginning of frost.Therefore, it will be better for a plant if the number of brushes does not exceed 5 - 6 pieces. Also, the way of the garter is of no small importance. The most suitable in this case would be the tapestry method. It consists in the fact that metal pipes of a small diameter or wooden stakes with a height of about 3 meters are driven into the garden at a distance of 3-4 meters from each other. Spacers are reinforced between them on top. Then 5 - 7 rows of wire are pulled. The tomato stem along its entire length, as well as each bunch, is tied separately to the tiers of the wire as it grows. Thus, it is possible not only to support bulky brushes, but also to save the plant from thickening, which means from problems associated with a lack of lighting or the spread of diseases. The care is not distinguished by sophistication, but consists of good watering, timely fertilizing, loosening and weeding.
Jubilee Tarasenko is an amazing variety that is still popular. Despite the fact that agricultural technology is not entirely simple, one might even say troublesome, many gardeners do not refuse to carry it out. As a reward for this, they receive an unusual liana-like culture, hung with tomato bunches, to look at which all neighbors will surely come running. Productivity is beyond praise, and disease resistance makes care somewhat easier. Ripe tomatoes are good not only on the table, but also in jars, because the skin will not allow the tomatoes to creep. Plus, if you are lucky enough to get a truly genuine variety, you can harvest the seeds yourself. Interestingly, over the years, varietal characteristics are not displayed.
