Tomato variety New Koenigsberg

Among the varieties of tomatoes, the name Königsberg is quite famous. Its author is V.N. Dederko. This wonderful tomato was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation in 2005. Among tomato growers, this culture really enjoys real respect for its good yield indicators, taste and unpretentiousness. It was thanks to this popularity that numerous varieties began to appear after the original. We have already introduced you to one of them, it is Koenigsberg golden... Another subspecies is New Konigsberg. According to available information, it has been known since 2002. It is not included in the State Register, it is known about its origin that it belongs to Siberian selection, it was acclimatized in the West Siberian region. Recommended for cultivation under film shelters, in greenhouses. But it is quite possible to grow it in the open field. Our hero is not a hybrid, so the seeds can be harvested on their own. The seed producer is the seed company Uralsky Dachnik. This variety is often compared to the original variety - Koenigsberg, but at the same time it is noted that the New one differs from the original species in improved qualities. Let's try to verify this statement by comparing the two cultures.

Description

The plant is indeterminate, growing from 1.8 to 2.0 meters. Just like the original tomato, our hero has a powerful stem and moderate foliage. Inflorescences are laid, as befits an indent, after 11 - 12 leaves. Fruits are smooth, elongated and pepper-shaped. In size, New Konigsberg is really larger, it has weighty fruits, the usual weight of which is about 300 grams, some specimens can reach 500 - 600 grams (the initial variety has an average fruit weight of 155 - 230 grams, maximum - 300 grams). The peel is quite strong; during the period of consumer ripeness, it turns into a rich red color. The pulp is dense, fleshy, juicy, although it contains about 5% of dry matter. The number of seed chambers is 5 - 6. The taste of tomatoes is wonderful, real tomato, sweet and sour, with a predominance of sweetness (as in the main species).

Characteristics

  • Unlike the original variety, New Konigsberg can be attributed to the early ones. In comfortable conditions, the fruits ripen in 100 days, but depending on the climate, the wait can take at least another 10 days;
  • the information on the yield is contradictory in the sense that the new variety was positioned as more productive than the original one. But the figures indicate that up to 4 kg can be removed from a plant, and 12 kg from 1 square meter. While the main species turned out to be more productive - 4.6 kg per bush and 20 kg per 1 sq. meters. Seed distributors cite data on 2 - 3 buckets of tomatoes from one plant, however, the size of the container is not indicated;
  • according to reviews, the adaptability of the variety to adverse conditions is great. The formation of the ovary, even in the open field, is not affected by temperature extremes or heat;
  • fruiting lasts until the onset of persistent cold weather;
  • the culture is resistant to major diseases;
  • dense skin protects tomatoes from cracking;
  • transportable possibilities are good. Dense tomatoes do not wrinkle, the skin protects them from mechanical damage;
  • keeping is also a distinctive feature of the variety. If the storage standards are observed, the crop does not deteriorate for a long time, therefore New Konigsberg is of interest to small farmers who grow vegetables for sale;
  • the way of use is universal. Mostly tomatoes are used in their natural form for making salads. But tomatoes are also suitable for processing. They produce high quality tomato products - thick paste, sauces. But the variety is not suitable for whole-fruit canning - it is too large-fruited.

Agrotechnics

Our hero is cultivated in many regions of Russia. In the south, it is grown in open ground, in the middle lane - under film shelters, and in cool regions - only in greenhouses. In all cases, only the seedling method is used.In each region, it is advisable to calculate the sowing time for seedlings yourself. For example, in central Russia, they are sown in late March - early April. Dived and hardened plants, at least 60 days old, are ready for transplantation. Planting density - no more than 3 pieces per 1 square meter. After transplanting, the seedlings are tied to a support. Tomatoes are formed in the open field in 2 - 3 stems, in protected - in 1 - 2 stems. The exactingness of the variety for watering is especially noted (the soil should in no case dry out). In order for the tomatoes to show the maximum mass, it is necessary to carry out rationing of the brush and timely apply fertilizing that combines organic matter with mineral fertilizers.

Among the "New" varieties there is also Pink. There was already a small note about him in an article dedicated to the "original" Konigsberg. I would only like to add a little to the information already available about him. According to reviews, the culture is quite unpretentious, agricultural technology is fully consistent with the main red variety. In appearance, tomatoes can be estimated at 5 points. But the taste of many gardeners disappointed - the sweetness is not enough, the tomatoes are not juicy, with voids inside. And the yield does not correspond to the declared one at all. Of course, weather conditions, insufficient care or frequent re-grading can be to blame.

Other varieties with the prefix New also appeared on sale - orange, striped, red with unusual thin and elongated fruits (but for some reason it is also called New Konigsberg, the fruits of which do not look like that at all). Often, new products are sold by various companies, the bags with seeds are marked "Together with the company Uralsky Dachnik". Along with a beautiful picture, the attention of gardeners is attracted by tempting promises of large-fruited and gigantic yields. But so far there is no information about these new products from tomato growers. If you carefully read the description of the multi-colored novelties on the bags, then, in fact, you will not be able to learn anything new. The information is standard everywhere - high yields, large fruits, resistance to major diseases. And outwardly, the new types of tomatoes look very much like the original ones (the same pink Konigsberg, for example). It cannot be promised whether these are really new varieties that were created by selecting seeds from the best fruits over several seasons. Or is it a simple marketing ploy to improve sales by using a well-advertised name. In any case, only the vegetable grower has the right to choose and evaluate. You can try new items, since their price is low, which pleases. And if the variety really deserves attention, then the seeds from it can be collected independently, and even in such an amount, which is enough to share with neighbors.
