Lorano grape variety
Lorano is the newest, but according to the first reviews, an extremely promising hybrid form of dark-colored table grapes from Alexander Vasilyevich Burdak, a folk breeder from the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine. Throughout his research work, the author set himself the task of breeding an ideal "sunny berry", and in the case of this variety, he came very close to this result.
The hybrid was obtained as a result of fertilization of a popular Ukrainian variety with a functionally female type of flowers Laura a mixture of early maturing pollen Codryanki and Richelieu. The offspring that emerged from this crossing combined a number of amazing characteristics, thanks to which it attracted the attention of many amateur winegrowers and farmers cultivating crops for sale. First of all, our heroine makes an indelible impression on everyone with her large-fruited and splendid appearance of the grapes, but besides this she has many other unambiguous advantages. Among them are the early ripening of the crop, its high gastronomic characteristics, excellent productivity, comparative unpretentiousness of grapes in cultivation and increased resistance to fungal diseases.
Thanks to all this, the number of Lorano's admirers is growing from year to year, and today we can already say with certainty that wide recognition and popularity awaits him.
Agrobiological characteristics
The growth vigor of the bushes is increased. Own-rooted plants are developing especially actively. The crown of the young shoot is closed greenish-white due to the existing tomentose pubescence. On young green leaves with a noticeable bronze tint, slight pubescence is still present, but disappears as they grow. Full leaf of medium size, rounded, three- or five-lobed with a weak degree of dissection between the lobes. The profile of the leaf blade of the variety is flat, with slightly raised edges, the surface is reticulate-wrinkled, dark green, on which veins are distinguished in lighter tones. The upper and lower lateral notches are small, slit-like, or V-shaped, sometimes barely outlined. The petiolate notch is, as a rule, open, its shape can be lyre-shaped or arched with a sharp bottom, sometimes lancet. The petioles are short, green in color with significant longitudinal areas marked with anthocyanin pigmentation. The denticles around the perimeter of the grape leaf are well expressed, relatively aligned in size, triangular with curved edges and pointed tops. The flowers are bisexual, well fertilized with their own pollen. According to wine growers who were already lucky enough to acquire a variety on their site, Lorano does not have such disadvantages as pea berries, shedding of inflorescences or ovaries. Ripening of young growth occurs at a fairly early date, and for a considerable length. The vine at the ripe shoots becomes brownish-brown.
The fruits of our hero are striking in their size. The bunch grows in a conical shape, sometimes with a wing. The average mass of brushes exceeds 800 grams, but often on well-developed powerful bushes with a large supply of perennial wood, real giants weighing up to 2 kg appear. The structure of the bunches is moderately dense, so that the grapes in them do not touch each other too much, which, in turn, prevents them from deformation. The combs in the variety are rather long and thick, herbaceous, painted in a light green color, often with reddish patches. The berries are very large, cylindrical, about 34-36 mm long and 24-26 mm in diameter. Typical weight ranges from 12-16 grams. The good evenness of the grapes among themselves gives the brushes a special elegance and attractiveness. The skin color is dark purple when the grapes are early harvested, and almost black after full ripening. On the surface there is an intense bluish prune bloom. The pulp of the fruit is dense, juicy-fleshy, according to some reviews - marmalade, has a pleasant harmonious taste and a good fruity aroma. The sugar content of the berry juice is about 17-19 g / 100 cubic meters. cm, titratable acidity - 5.5-6.5 g / cubic dm. The skin has a high density, which protects the grapes from damage by wasps and other insects, but when eaten, it chews without problems. The number of seeds is usually 2-3, their size is medium, and therefore they are not very noticeable in a large volume of pulp. Lorano's tasting qualities are rated as high, and this fact is confirmed by almost every owner.
Harvests of excellent gastronomic and aesthetic form are primarily intended for fresh consumption. It enjoys great success with buyers in the market and therefore attracts the attention of an increasing number of farmers who cultivate grapes for sale. In addition to the unambiguous "marketability" and the ability of the variety not to linger on the shelves, they are impressed by the early ripening of the bunches, which allows them to start selling during the period of high grape prices, as well as good transportability, thanks to which the crop is able to carry transportation over long distances without losing its presentation. Amateur winegrowers, growing a hybrid for their own needs, use its surplus in home preservation, getting tasty and rich in color compotes, jams, marinades and other preparations for the winter from large dark-colored berries.
The duration of the growing season before the onset of the removable ripeness of the berries is only 110-115 days for Lorano, with the sum of active temperatures during this time of the order of 2250-2350 ° С. For this reason, the variety can be cultivated in a number of non-traditional regions for viticulture. However, taking into account the average indicators of frost resistance at -22 ° C, plants need a reliable shelter of the aboveground part for the winter.
The productivity of the form and its ability to "pull" large yields are excellent. From a well-developed bush that does not show signs of overloading, up to 25 kg of grapes can be harvested, and some owners testify to large volumes. The load is regulated by spring pruning for 30-40 eyes with the length of fruit arrows 5-8 buds, as well as the subsequent thinning of excess inflorescences.
According to reviews, the variety shows relative resistance to the main fungal diseases and requires only a few preventive fungicide treatments per season. Ripe berries do not have a tendency to decay and cracking, they are rarely damaged by wasps, so that the bunches can hang on the bushes for a long time.
