Cherry variety Radonezh

The success of a fruitful garden depends on correctly selected zoned crops. Therefore, one of the goals of the ongoing variety trials is to identify the resistance of the crop to certain climatic conditions. For example, a cherry variety has recently appeared, which, in terms of its combination of qualities, is excellent for the Moscow region and nearby regions. It is called Radonezh. The variety was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia in 2002 with an admission in the Central Region, which includes Moscow, Ivanovo, Bryansk, Vladimir, Kaluga, Tula, Ryazan and Smolensk regions. The originator is the Federal Research Center “VIK im. V.R. Williams ”, which is known as a research center for fodder production in Russia. M.V. Kanshina, A.L. Astakhov and L.I. Zueva. Bush cherry Kistevaya and I-I-L were used as donor forms. A hardy plant is used not only for planting in a garden, but also for landscaping and landscaping.

Description

The type of development is tree-like. The tree is of medium height, characterized by a short trunk and short stature. The height of an adult plant is 3.0 - 3.5 meters. A raised, rounded-oval, not too dense crown is formed by rather thick, strong branches. Shoots are slightly arcuate, the bark on them is brownish-olive, with a grayish-silvery sheen. Lentils are small, light, in small quantities. The buds of the variety are small in size, depending on the type, they have a different shape: the vegetative bud is conical, the generative bud is more rounded, ovoid. Cherry leaves are of regular size, elongated-elliptical or broadly oval, edge with double-crenate serration, pointed apex, broadly wedge-shaped base. The leaf blade of Radonezh is flat or has the shape of a shallow boat, leathery to the touch, without pubescence. Small pigmented glands are located at the base of the leaf and petiole. The petiole is also pigmented along its entire length, short, medium thick. The inflorescence consists of 5 - 6 saucer flowers. The size is normal, the corolla consists of freely spaced white petals. The anthers and stigma of the pistil are located at the same level, the calyx is narrow-rounded, without serration, the stamens and the pistil are long. The crop is formed on annual increments.

Cherry berries are attractive, rounded, not too large, average weight 4.0 grams, maximum - 4.8 grams. The top of the fruit is round, the funnel is medium in depth and width. The skin is soft, elastic. The fruit, pulp and juice are colored dark red, which makes the variety a griot. The pulp is not very dense, tender, juicy. The taste is sweet and sour, the assessment of tasters is 4.2 points. The peduncle is long, when the fruit is fully ripe, it separates very well, the separation is dry. The stone weight is 0.24 grams, which is 6.0% of the total mass of the berry, it separates well from the pulp. 100 grams of raw pulp contains: dry matter 14.8%, sugar 10.0%, acids 0.64%, ascorbic acid 10.5 mg.

Characteristics

  • The cherry is all right with the early maturity. Radonezh begins to bear fruit 4 years after planting an annual seedling in the garden;
  • the variety blooms in the middle period - in May, but it is not afraid of cold snaps during this period. The flowers are resistant to spring frost;
  • ripening period - average. You can enjoy ripe berries by the end of June;
  • productivity is good. The data of the State Register on the average annual yield of the variety for the period from 1996 to 2000 corresponds to 36 c / ha. VNIISPK gives several other indicators - the average yield is 50 c / ha, the maximum - 70 c / ha;
  • our heroine has a partial self-fertility. Without additional pollination, you can lose a significant part of the crop - up to 60%. Therefore, the best solution is to plant a suitable pollinator nearby. Best of all, they will cope with the responsibilities: Turgenevka, Lyubskaya, Vladimirskaya... To attract pollinators to the garden of insects, experienced gardeners recommend sprinkling cherry branches with a sugar or honey solution at the time of flowering;
  • frost resistance is one of the main advantages of the variety. Not only wood perfectly tolerates low winter temperatures, the resistance of flower buds to frost is also high;
  • immunity is high. The State Register notes resistance to fungal diseases. The plant is especially good at resisting moniliosis and coccomycosis, which are one of the most insidious diseases for culture;
  • drought resistance is not high enough, although the ability of Radonezh to withstand short dry periods is noted;
  • the productive age of the tree is 25 years;
  • transportability can be called low, the berries of the variety are soft, so they can easily wrinkle during long transportation;
  • the way of use is universal. Berries are used in their natural form instead of dessert. The harvest is also suitable for processing into jams, compotes, juice, liqueur.

Agrotechnics

In the Central Region, cherries are recommended to be planted in the spring, before the buds begin to bloom on the seedling. But in order for the tree to grow a good root system during the growing season and leave completely strengthened in the winter, the prescribed agrotechnics should be correctly followed. In the first year after planting, the seedling is not fertilized; the fertilizers that were added to the planting pit will be enough for it. But watering should be carried out in a timely manner, the soil should not dry out, but it should not be waterlogged either. Therefore, before the next watering, you need to check the soil moisture level. A good way to retain moisture in the trunk circle for a longer period is to use mulch. By the way, it is also a barrier to the growth of weeds and a supplier of trace elements. In the first year after planting, it is imperative to start forming the crown. As a rule, the most common type of formation is a sparse-tiered one. Despite the good disease resistance of cherries, preventive treatments should not be neglected.

Radonezh is an excellent variety for the Central Region, as it has excellent winter hardiness and high resistance to major crop diseases. Due to its small size, maintenance and harvesting is easier. The yield, albeit not excellent, is good, and most importantly stable. The berry taste is very good, the marketable quality is high. From the harvest, you can make many delicious preparations for the winter. As such, there were no minuses for the variety. But some difficulties, especially for a novice gardener, can be caused by the post-planting need to adhere to agricultural techniques, in particular - the watering regime, otherwise the seedling may die without sufficient moisture.
