Apple variety Auxis
Auxis is an apple variety of Lithuanian selection with fruits of mid-winter ripening period. Obtained through crossbreeding Macintosh with Grafenstein red. Place of hatching - Lithuanian Research Institute of Fruit and Vegetable Economy.
The trees are medium in size, the crown is compact, medium thickened, rounded or broadly rounded. Mixed fruiting. Flowering occurs in the third decade of May. Apple trees need cross-pollination with other varieties with the same flowering period.
The fruits of the Auxis apple tree are below average and average size, the weight of one apple is 90 - 140 g, the largest fruits reach 150 - 180 g. The shape of the apples is regular, chiseled, flattened-rounded or turnip, the ribs are almost invisible. The skin is smooth, of medium thickness, oily, there is a waxy coating. With removable maturity, the main color of the fruit is greenish-yellow, when ripe, it is light yellow, the integumentary color is blurred, dense, occupies at least half of the surface of the fruit or almost the entire surface in the form of a carmine-red blush. Subcutaneous dots are large, pronounced, some of them with rustiness in the center. The peduncles are thin or of medium thickness, long, straight, sometimes oblique (oblique). The funnel is relatively deep, rather wide, blunt-conical in shape, with a strong or medium rustiness extending beyond its borders. The saucer is deep, wide, with a smooth surface, in rare cases it is slightly folded.
The pulp of the fruit has a yellowish color and a relatively dense structure. The apples are juicy, aromatic, with an excellent dessert taste - refreshingly sweet and sour, with a spicy aftertaste. Tasting score - 4.4 - 4.5 points. Fruits ripen in September, are stored until January - February (in the refrigerator - until March). If the harvest is late, the apples fall off.
The early fruiting rate of the Auxis apple tree is average, the first fruiting occurs 5-6 years after planting. The variety is recognized as high-yielding. Fruiting is generally regular. Winter hardiness is relatively high, but in the conditions of the Central region of Russia (Moscow region) only average. Scab resistance is average.
The main advantages of the variety: high yield, high commercial and consumer qualities of apples.
Speaking of the shortcomings, it is worth noting the "borderline" level of winter hardiness and a tendency to periodic fruiting in adverse conditions.
This apple tree was bought as a one-year seedling in a nursery. They have been waiting for 6 years until it begins to bear fruit. The tree is not very spreading, which allowed us to plant another winter apple tree nearby. The tree is very fond of aphids and various caterpillars, so you need to spray on time. The fruits themselves have been delighting us for two years. So far in a small amount, but this is the beginning. The fruits are very juicy, sweet with a slight sourness and some kind of dessert aroma. The pulp is firm. Everything is eaten fresh, I have not tried canning. Stored well.
